     straight during the setting period)
5 x Wick Stick Ums
         Utensil to stir wax
5 x Candle Safety Stickers

There are two different methods to choose from when making your candles: the Hob/Pan method where you use either
a double boiler or a bowl inside a pan on a hob or hot plate, or the Microwave method where you use a microwave and
glass bowl. Both methods have been listed below with step by step instructions.

Method for hob/pan:

1. Prepare your space, make sure you have a clean flat surface, moving anything you don't want to get wax on.
2. Weigh out desired amount of wax (80g per candle glass) .
3. Pour boiling water into double boiler/pan until approx. half full & place on the hob, keeping the heat low.
4. If using bowl/pan inside a pan. Place your heat proof bowl/pan into the pan filled with water.
5. Pour your wax into the double boiler/pan and allow it to melt – DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED.
6. Melt wax to 70°C, do not exceed 80°C,.
7. When wax reaches 70°C, remove the container from the hob & pour into the pouring jug. Place the jug on a safe,
even, covered surface. (The temperature will continue to rise on it own after you remove it, do not worry it will start
cooling down straight away.)
8. Whilst the wax is cooling use your wick 'stick ums' to stick your wicks to the bottom of your candle glass, ensuring
they are in the middle.
9. Use your thermometer to ensure the wax is 70°C before adding your colour & fragrance oil.
10. Add your desired amount of colour to the melted wax (we recommend 0.2%) at 70°C.

11. Also add your fragrance oil at 70°C (we recommend using 6% - 10% - fragrance oil should be weighed in grams on
your scales).
12. Give your wax a good stir, ensuring the colour and fragrance are blended with the wax.
13. If you are using paraffin wax, pour the wax at approx. 65-70°C.
14. If you are using soy wax, pour the wax at approx. 60°C.
15. As you are pouring the wax, ensure you are pouring gently and slowly to avoid air bubbles, leave a small amount of
wax out of the candle container, we will need that later.
16. Wax naturally shrinks whilst cooling, this will cause a sink hole around the wick in the centre of the candle, don’t
panic, this is an unavoidable part of candle making. Allow your candles to cool at room temperature to a point where
they appear to be set (a few hours later).
17. Reheat the left over wax to 65°C and pour into your pouring jug. Gently pour the wax into the sink holes to leave a
smooth flat surface.
18. Trim the wick to 5mm – 10mm, add your candle safety sticker and you’re done – congrats!

Method for microwave:

1. Prepare your space, make sure you have a clean flat surface to work on near your microwave.
2. Weigh out desired amount of wax (80g per candle glass) .
3. Pour desired amount of wax into glass jug/bowl and set the microwave, checking the wax each 60 seconds.
4. Melt wax to 70°C, do not exceed 80°C,.
5. When wax reaches 70°C, remove from microwave and place on a safe, even, covered surface. (The temperature will
continue to rise on it own after you remove it, do not worry it will start cooling down straight away.)
6. Whilst the wax is cooling use your wick 'stick ums' to stick your wicks to the bottom of your candle glass, ensuring
they are in the middle .
7. Use your thermometer to ensure the wax is 70°C before adding your colour & fragrance oil.
8. Add your desired amount of colour to the melted wax (we recommend 0.2%) at 70°C.
9. Also add your fragrance oil at 70°C (we recommend using 6% - 10% - fragrance oil should be weighed in grams on
your scales) .
10. Give your wax a good stir, ensuring the colour and fragrance are blended with the wax.
11. If you are using paraffin wax, pour the wax at approx. 70°C.
12. If you are using soy wax, pour the wax at approx. 60°C .
13. As you are pouring the wax, ensure you are pouring gently & slowly to avoid air bubbles, leave a small amount of
wax out of the candle container, we will need that later.
14. Wax naturally shrinks whilst cooling, this will cause a sink hole around the wick in the centre of the candle, don’t

15. Reheat the left over wax to 65°C and pour into your pouring jug. Gently pour the wax into the sink holes to leave a
smooth flat surface.
16. Trim the wick to 5mm – 10mm, add your candle safety sticker & you’re done – congrats!

Top tips:

Ensure you glue your wick in the centre of the candle glass, otherwise your candle will never burn evenly .
Stick to the guidance temperatures, don’t rush the process as this will affect the performance.
Weigh out your wax, fragrance oil & colour to avoid wastage.
The best way to clean waxy jugs & bowls is with warm soapy water.

Step by Step Guide
If you want to get creative with your candle making, head to the 'Techniques’ section
to customise these guidance notes to your chosen method .

Step 1 – Weighing your wax

Fill a glass/cup/mug with wax & place on scales.
Ensure approx. 160g of wax is in your container (for your
20cl candle glass – you will need 400g for your 50cl glass)

Step 2 – Pouring your wax

Pour all of your wax into your glass jug/bowl (for microwave
method) or your glass bowl/pan (for hob method).
If you are melting in the microwave pop your jug/bowl in the
microwave and set for 1 minute on full heat.
If you are melting on the hob pop your glass bowl/pan on
top of your pre-prepared pan with boiling water inside.
Wait for your wax to melt – do not leave unattended at any
point.
If you are melting using the microwave method we
recommend checking on your wax every 60 seconds.

Step 3 – Check your wax

Here is what you can expect to see during the melting
process.
Use your utensil to stir the wax & return to the microwave
for another 60 seconds .
If you are melting on the hob, be sure to keep your eye on
the wax & stir every 60 seconds whilst maintaining the low
heat.

Step 4 – Secure your wick in the candle glass

Place the base of your candle wick on to the wick 'stick um'
this will hold the wick in place.
Gently peel the wick stick um & wick away from the paper
sheet.
Carefully guide your wick into the candle glass. (Avoid the
sides as the wick dot is super sticky!) Ensure your wick 'stick
um' and wick are in the middle of the candle glass, this is for
safety purposes as well as performance purposes. A candle
will never burn evenly if it’s wick isn’t central

Step 6 – Adding fragrance & colour your wax

When your wax reaches 70°C, add your chosen colour (do
not add colour if you are wanting your candle
white/cream) to your bowl/jug - if using a bowl, now is a
good time to pour it into a pouring jug in preparation for
pouring you candle. The more colour you use, the more
vibrant the colour, the less you use, the more of a pastel
effect you will get.
Give your wax a good stir for approx. 30 seconds – 1
minute.
Now you add your fragrance; you can add anywhere from
6% - 10% of fragrance oil to your candle – this is
calculated by the amount of wax you have used.
If you weighed out 100g of wax, it’s best to use 6g – 10g of
fragrance oil.
Pour your oil into the melted wax & stir it in for approx. 1
minute, keeping an eye on the temperature.

Step 7 – Pouring your candle

Before pouring your candle, ensure you have some
kitchen roll or newspaper to protect your surface, this can
get messy! Pop your containers on the surface protector
before you pour.
Your wax should now be making its way towards 60°C,
when it reaches 60°C, it’s time to pour your candle .
Holding your jug handle firmly, gently & slowly pour the
wax into your candle container (avoiding the sides of the
container). Remember to leave a small amount of wax
spare, we will need this later!

Step 8 – Waiting, waiting, waiting...

Your candle is poured, so now we need to make sure the
candle wick stays central whilst it’s setting. The easiest
way to use this is use a wick centering tool, however if you
do not have one of these you can use a peg to keep the
wick central.
Now it’s a waiting game … Leave your candle to set for a
few hours, if you start to see that your candle has
sunk/dipped on the surface move to Step 9.

Step 9 – Re-pour (Optional)

If you have found your candle wax has sunk / dipped on
the surface, don’t worry! That's why we saved some wax
from earlier! All we need to do is reheat this small
amount of wax to 60°C, & re-pour it evenly on the
surface; this will give your candle a smooth, even finish.

Step 10 – Trim the wick

At this point, ideally your candle needs to have been
setting all night. Now it’s time to trim the wick to
approx. 5mm.
Your candle is now ready to light! Well done, you’ve
made your first candle!

Techniques:
If you want to get creative with your candle making, check out a few of our favourite techniques below!

2 colours:-

Half all of the measurements in step 1 (wax) & step 7 (colour & fragrance).
Follow the same instructions, however remember to check the wax every 30 seconds, as it will melt quicker.
Once you have poured the bottom half of your candle, allow it to set for 4 hours.
When this time has elapsed it will be safe the repeat the same process again, adding your second colour &
same fragrance.
Ensure the wax is 60°C every time you pour the wax.
With your second pour, remember to keep some wax spare to ‘top-off’ the candle, creating a smooth, even
surface.

2   colours (stripey):- (you will need an extra cup for this method)

Half all of the measurements in step 1 (wax) & step 7 (colour & fragrance).
Follow the same instructions, however remember to check the wax every 30 seconds, as it will melt quicker.
Once you have melted the first (bottom) part of your candle, you need to pour ½ of your mixture into the
container (filling only 1/5 of your container), you should have half of your mixture left, pour this into a separate
cup/jug/bowl.
Allow your first colour in your candle to set for 2 hours.
When this time has elapsed it will be safe the repeat the same process again, adding your second colour &
same fragrance.
Remember to save half of your mixture from colour two - Your candle container should now be 2/5 full (almost
half).
Allow another 2 hours for the wax to completely harden.
Now it’s time to add colour one again – so re-heat.
Your colour one, ensure it’s 60°C before pouring & then leave to set for another 2 hours – your container
should now be 3/5 full.
Now for the last part; grab your remaining colour two, reheat & pour at 60°C – this is the last pour into your
candle .
Allow 2 hours for this to set & viola! Your candle should be stripey & looking great!

If you think you are ready for a challenge, try a rainbow candle!  Use the same method as above,
making sure you leave at least 1-2 hours between pouring the different colours – enjoy!
