Question:
Can I use telephone cable between sections of sensing cable to monitor multiple areas -
combined length up to 240'?
Answer:
Yes! I connected a line splitter to the water detector (a D-Link Wi-Fi sensor, in my case)
with one sensor cable attached directly to the splitter and another sensor cable 12 feet
away via a two-line (four conductor) phone cable and a (four conductor) coupler. The water
sensor triggers if either of the two sensor cable… see more

Question:
Does anyone know if this works with the D-Link water sensor/alarm?
Answer:
Yes, this works with the D-Link DCH-S160 Wi-Fi Water Sensor. I unplugged the short water
sensor cable that came with the D-Link, and plugged in the longer Honeywell cable. It works
great! I then added a phone line splitter, so I am using both cables to cover two different
areas. Still working great! I had to buy t… see more

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SENSING CABLE EXTENSION with a couple draw backs
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2016
Verified Purchase
The extension cable comes in a roll with 9 floor clips to secure the cable to the floor – I did not use any of
these clips – I used 5 small strips of a good quality fiberglass enforced packaging tape. Prior to
installation - I stretched out the 8 foot cable and suspended it in a warm area for 24 hours to take out the
loops so it would lay flat. To install – I removed the 4 ft. original sensing cable that came with the
Honeywell RWD41 Water Defense Water Sensing Alarm and set it aside for future use with a second
sensing alarm. I cleaned the floor around our indirect-fired water heater so the tape will stick and
stretched the cable completely around it attaching it with the 5 strips of fiberglass tape, one at each end
and three evenly spaced at 2 feet intervals. The downside of this cable – besides having to remove the
loops from the cable, is the cost – somewhat expensive. I reused the 4’ sensing cable (I had set aside) on
a second RWD41 by installing a 4 conductor GE 26191 Duplex wall jack adapter into the 6 ft. leader cable
plug allowing me to attach a second sensor giving that water sensing alarm an additional 4 ft. of cable
making it to an 8 ft. sensor.

ByteTime
My research led me to this cable that I used to expand the detection coverage area of each sensor. It
requires some DIY skills, but it’s not difficult. Other people have commented on similar uses, so read the
questions and reviews. The main reason for my purchase is that the cable is less expensive than buying
more water sensors to monitor the same area. Most of my water sensors have a double pin design that is
on a long cable and it was fairly easy to connect the sensor cable to an old phone extension wall jack.
Also, some of my wireless water sensors lay on the floor or ground and only have a few metal contacts on
the bottom. These required me to create flat contact piece that insulated each sensor contact from each
other, which was taped to the main wireless sensor. I used plastic to fabricate the piece.
Anyway, this cable works great to expand the water detection area for my needs.
FWIW: My wireless water detectors connect to Home Assistant that is configured to trigger a Dome
wireless water main valve to close if any water sensor detects a leak. While this may seem a bit extreme
it has saved me thousands of dollars in water related disasters. So in that regard, the cost for this cable is
cheap insurance.

In early testing these work well as water probes to a Raspberry Pi. Straightforward connections. Uses
outside wire pair (passes all 4 through). I wired the matching wires from an RJ45 male to 3.3volts and an
input channel on an ads1115 analog to digital hat for the Pi. If you wire the middle pair of wires similarly
you can use a 2 line phone splitter to monitor two independent sensors on the single phone cord wire.

[[ASIN:B004FTFQ4W Honeywell RWD80/T Water Defense Water Sensing Alarm Extension Cable
The cable works, but doesn't lay completely flat on the floor. If the little fasteners with the sticky back
would actually stick, the problem would be solved. The fasteners that come with the Honeywell RWD41
unit itself are different, they are bigger, don't have a hole in the middle and stick better.
The hole in the fasteners that come with the extension cable are too big. Finding a nail with a big head
and small stem is a challenge. I will have to look for different fasteners or come up with a different solution
to keep all the cable flat on the floor surrounding my washing machine.
