Introduction

Mosquitos are one of the dangerous insects we know. Mosquitos carries different types of

viruses’ especially the female mosquitos, which can transmit deadly diseases like malaria and the

West Nile Virus, are attracted to potential hosts by “smelling” the carbon dioxide they exhale.

There are products that can kill mosquitos but it’s very expensive or has side effects. Mosquitos

mostly attracted to smelly objects. Mostly, they live in dark areas to freely roam around the area.

To lessen those mosquitos that harm humans especially those female mosquitos that carry deadly

diseases, we decided to conduct an experiment that can help to reduce the number of mosquitoes

using yeast, sugar, vinegar and baking soda; we are able to help our community to lessen the

mosquitoes that are roaming around. In this experiment, we used a combination of yeast and

sugar, vinegar and baking soda. We used this natural way to make ourselves healthy and safe

from the chemicals coming from other products.

Objectives

To determine which is more effective between the combination of yeast and sugar,

vinegar and baking soda in trapping a mosquito

Significance of the study

This project will help us to lessen the mosquitoes that may harm us. This is very

important to us because we can prevent those diseases carried by the mosquitoes. Though we

need to make our own.

Scope and Limitation

This mosquito trap can’t really kill mosquitoes but it can lure the mosquitoes because of

its smell. There might be multiple places where mosquitoes reside, such as ponds, swamps and

other areas with standing water, long bushes, shrubbery, clogged rain gutters, dark and humid

places around the house etc. In this case you may need to use multiple mosquito traps to

successfully reduce a mosquito population, which can cost you a lot more than using other

methods, such as mosquito foggers. Weather conditions also have a strong impact to the

effectiveness of a mosquito trap, especially wind. A mosquito trap must be used in an area close

to the place where mosquitoes reside, so gases produced by the trap can reach this area. To do

this effectively, you must constantly observe the wind direction so gases released from the trap

reach the area where mosquitoes reside.
