Social Reality: The Novel Corona Virus Outbreak

See:

The Novel Corona Virus started in Wuhan, China which affects not just the Chinese people but also the
people in the neighbouring countries. The symptoms are fever, cough and difficulty in breathing. A lot of
people got panicked when the outbreak of the virus was announced. One of the ways to avoid it is to
use face mask but because the people were already panicking, everyone was already buying face mask
where in fact the wearing of face mask is only advisable to those people who has cough in order to avoid
it from transmitting it to another person. According to some news, it is due to animals like camel, bat
and cats. Cases have been reported on the following continents:

Asia: China (20 458), Japan (20), Thailand (19), Singapore (18), Republic of Korea (16), Taiwan (10),
Malaysia (8), Vietnam (9), United Arab Emirates (5), India (3), the Philippines (2), Cambodia (1), Nepal
(1), and Sri Lanka (1).

Europe: Germany (12), France (6), Italy (2), United Kingdom (2), Russia (2), Belgium (1), Finland (1), Spain
(1) and Sweden (1).

America: the United States (11) and Canada (4).

Oceania: Australia (12).

Of the 427 deaths reported, 426 have been reported from China: Hubei (414), Chongqing (2),
Heilongjiang (2), Henan (2), Beijing (1), Hainan (1), Hebei (1), Hong Kong (1), Shanghai (1) and Sichuan

One death has been reported from the Philippines. And the social reality regarding the issue is that, the
people already loss their humanity. Some people blame the Chinese for that and they even discriminate
them and insult them just because of the virus.

Judge:

This social reality happened because we are so engrossed with ways to prevent ourselves from acquiring
such virus that we tend to forget that those who were infected were also people and that they didn't
wish for it to happened. It was not their plan to acquire those disease. If only they had their chance, they
would refuse to be infected. Instead of helping them out, we rejected them and treated them like they
don't deserve to be treated, that they don't deserve to live. We blame them for something that is out of
their control. We are so afraid from getting infected that we refuse to help those people who needed
help, that we let those people think that because they are Chinese even though they're not NCOV
carrier, they don't deserve to go anywhere near us. We treated those people like they're the virus and
forgot the fact that they're only humans who were unlucky enough to acquired rhe virus.

Act:

We must not be a slave of fear. Not because everyone thinks it is right to prevent and avoid the Chinese,
it is the right thing to do. It is not wrong to be cautious, what is wrong is if being cautious means being
inhumane. As human being, we must help one another instead of avoiding them. One way is not to
discriminate those Chinese people who is already in the country even before the outbreak of the virus
and try to see if those people are having the symptoms before judging them and if there are symptoms,
the right thing to do is to help them by calling hospital who caters NCOV patients to check it that person
really has NCOV. Another way is to stop spreading fake news in social media in order to stop everyone
from panicking. We must also stop from sharing or posting memes that discriminate or bully the Chinese
instead we must let them feel that they're not alone in this battle. We may be a different nationality but
we are as one human family and it is the best reason not to discriminate them.

Reflection:

As a human being, we have the rights and responsibilities to help one another. Everyone has the right to
live and not being treated like some kind of a disease that should be avoided. We also have the
responsibility to help them instead of discriminating them. We have the responsibility to respect their
dignity. And solidarity will also solve this kind of issue. We must know that we have the responsibility for
our brothers and sisters regardless if they are Chinese, Americans or Koreans. We our one family
regardless of our differences in race, culture and nationality. Therefore, as one family, we must help our
brothers and sisters for they also have the right to live even though they came from the place where the
virus started. We must maintain our humanity by helping one another.
