Node 1 – ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit and Port 5 – CVP – QinQ / PVID 201
Node 2 – ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit and Port 5 – CVP – QinQ / PVID 201

1. In Tree View browse to Unit and Port and select Overview/Port Type and set usage
to CVP
2. Browse to Switching tab; for each ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5
Mode = Q-in-Q
PVID = 201
3. If you are using ETOP1, then select Main and SFP on the same Port 5 and select in
the Type Configuration the same SFP type that is displayed in Type Status.
4. Select Main and Admin And Oper Status
Change Admin Status to Up

B. Prepare the MPLS-TP Ports (unless already configured)

All Nodes – Ports 1, 2 on CESM2 – MPLS-TP

1. In Tree View browse to CESM2 unit and Ports and select Overview/Port Type and
set usage to MPLS-TP

Terminator = Node 2
BFD Session = enabled
Z-end = Port 1
Label Forward Out = 600
Label Reverse In = 601

Browse to MPLS-TP tab

Select Tunnels in tree
Click + to add new tunnel. Pop-up dialog appears
Index = 6
Designation = Terminator
Initiator = Node 1
BFD Session = enabled
A-end = Port 2
Label Forward In = 600
Label Reverse Out = 601

D. Create VPLS Services

1. Node 4

Create VPLS on Node 4

Browse to MPLS-TP tab

Select VPLS in tree
Click + to add new VPLS. Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “VPLS VLAN201”
SVI = 201
Other settings as default

Create PW on Node 4

Select VPLS in table

Click sheet symbol (to the right of the + sign). Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “PW1”
Binding = Mesh
VLAN Mode = No Change
Inbound Label = 5000
Outbound Label = 5000
Click ellipsis (…) and select Tunnel 5

2. Node 1

Create VPLS on Node 1

Browse to MPLS-TP tab

Select VPLS in tree
Click + to add new VPLS. Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “VPLS VLAN201”
SVI = 201
Other settings as default

Exercise # 5 (1) Page 3 of 5 07 March 2017

FOX615 as MPLS-TP Multiplexer – PRACTICAL TRAINING EXERCISES
Create PW1 on Node 1

Select VPLS in table

Click sheet symbol (to the right of the + sign). Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “PW1”
Binding = Mesh
VLAN Mode = No Change
Inbound Label = 5000
Outbound Label = 5000
Click ellipsis (…) and select Tunnel 5

Create PW2 on Node 1

Select VPLS in table

Click sheet symbol (to the right of the + sign). Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “PW2”
Binding = Mesh
VLAN Mode = No Change
Inbound Label = 5001
Outbound Label = 5001
Click ellipsis (…) and select Tunnel 6

3. Node 2

Create VPLS on Node 2

Browse to MPLS-TP tab

Select VPLS in tree
Click + to add new VPLS. Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “VPLS VLAN201”
SVI = 201
Other settings as default

Create PW on Node 2

Select VPLS in table

Click sheet symbol (to the right of the + sign). Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “PW2”

E. Test network

Connect Ethernet testers (or PCs) to run Pings between the following pairs of ports:
Node 4 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5: Node 1 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5
This should be successful
Node 2 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5: Node 1 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5

Exercise # 5 (1) Page 4 of 5 07 March 2017

FOX615 as MPLS-TP Multiplexer – PRACTICAL TRAINING EXERCISES
This should be successful
Node 4 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5: Node 2 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5
This should fail

Why does the final ping fail?

Because ‘Mesh’ binding enables ‘Split Horizon’ which blocks the transmission of messages
out of other MPLS-TP ports on Node 1.
If communication through Node 1 (full connectivity) is required then the binding must be set
to ‘Spoke’.

F. Delete and Recreate PW2 on Node 1 as ‘Spoke’

Select PW2 on Node 1 and click ‘X’ button to delete the PW.

Create PW2 on Node 1

Select VPLS in table
Click sheet symbol (to the right of the + sign). Pop-up dialog appears
Name = “PW2”
Binding = Spoke
VLAN Mode = No Change
Inbound Label = 5001
Outbound Label = 5001
Click ellipsis (…) and select Tunnel 6

Connect Ethernet testers to run Pings between the following pairs of ports:

Node 4 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5: Node 2 ELET1/EPOI1 or ETOP1 unit Port 5
This should now be successful.
