INTRODUCTION

Work Immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum and refers to

the part of that consist of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which Grade

12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual work setting and to enrich the

competencies provided by the school.

Work immersion enables learners to become familiar with the workplace, simulate

work, and apply their competencies in authentic work environments. The program aims to

help develop life and career skills and prepare learners to decide regarding post-secondary

education or employment. Work immersion also improves and build new skills of the

students.

Generally, work immersion is advantageous to students who want to experience and

learn more about the life of being employed. It prepares them to the bigger world after

graduation and makes them equipped with relevant skills. It also teaches a lot of valuable

lessons that they cannot get inside the classroom.

Objectives of the Work Immersion

 To acquaint the student formally to a real life work place environment

 Give the student an opportunity to establish an interest in industrial/commercial

activities.

 Provide a general work experience to the student.

Duration and place of Work Immersion

I am conducting my Work Immersion at the Notre Dame of Kiamba, Incorporated,

Kiamba Sarangani Province along the Bialong National Highway. This Work immersion only

last after 10 days or if you completed the 80 hours required in the Work Immersion.

Place of Training

I am training at the school of Notre Dame of Kiamba, Inc. under the supervision of Sir

Jegger Jeme Reynes. The school is located at National Highway, Poblacion Kiamba, Sar.

Prov.
Training Area

I am conducting my Work immersion at Notre Dame of Kamba, Incorporated,

Kiamba Sarangani Province, along Bialong National Highway.

History of the training area

Notre Dame of Kiamba, Inc. is a Catholic school and was founded in 1963. The

Passionist Fathers of the Philippines with Rev. Father Eugene Leso, C.P is the founder and

the first director of this school. Before it is called Notre Dame of Kiamba, this school was

owned by the late Don Tomas T. Falgui and his school name is Kiamba Academy. The

passionate fathers and Rev. Father Eugene Leso, C.P bought the Kiamba Academy to late

Don Tomas T. Falgui and named the school Notre Dame of Kiamba, Inc. The fame of the

school lured more students from different municipalities to enroll in the school, that’s why

the passionist Fathers had to purchase a bigger land from the late Tiburcio B. Aquino, the

land beside the school. It was on this site where buildings were set with enthusiastic and

benevolent support from many concerned citizens of the municipality. A four-room building

was donated by Walter K. Peret and family, former resident of Kiamba.

The school embarked on a vision to put up the three levels of learning : the

elementary, secondary, and the collegiate. All these being realized produced its first college

graduates in 1973. But the growing requirements to meet the needs of the school could not be

sustain its gains. In 1969, due to a decrease in enrollment brought about by the exodus of

pupils to a more affordable public schools the elementary school has to phase out. The

college also closed down due to dwindling enrolment in 1973, leaving just the high school to

continue its existence.

The greatest tragedy happened in Notre Dame of Kiamba,Inc is that the entire school

was burned into ashes on March 1, 1992. This tragic event which destroyed all records and

facilities for learning has remained unsolved to this day. However, all support and financial

aid from the concerned community and outside came pouring in so that like the legendary
bird, the phoenix, Notre Dame of Kiamba, Inc rose from its ashes and a new imposing

concrete two-storey building was erected.

In 2015, pursuant to the republic act 10533 of the Philippines, Notre Dame of

Kiamba, Inc offers a robust Senior High School program that challenges its learners to

approach their academic and non-academic life and provide sufficient time for mastery of

concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduate, for tertiary education,

middle-level skills development employment, and entrepreneurship. The school opened

General Academic Strand (GAS) for the academic track and computer programming and

animation under information and communication technology for technical and vocational

skills. On March 29, 2018, the school produces its first batch of Senior High School

graduates. Forty one(41) tossed their graduation caps for General Academic Strand and

sixteen(16) for computer programming and animation under information and computer

technology. After two(2) years, the school opened Humanities and social sciences(HUMMS)

as additional strand for senior high school. Truly, Notre Dame of Kiamba, Inc. is

continuously producing locally and globally competitive 21st century learners that provides

catholic education and holistic Christian formation.

The Training Experience

My work immersion is all about the teachers on how the teachers will handle the

behavior and how they teach the students from the very start of their class up to going home.

Journal

Day 1(Feb. 18,2020)

At 8:30 AM, I and sir Jeger Jeme Reynes go the grade 8 St. Francis Xavier to have a

class. But because it is my first time he just let me observe on how to teach and also to

observe the behavior of the students. As what usually happens inside the classroom, some of

the boys are noisy and the girls are chitchatting and some don’t listen. We ended our class at

9:30 and bid goodbye to the students and headed directly to the office of sir Jeger. After that,

our next class is at the grade 10. We headed there after recess and as what I did earlier, I’m

here at the back to observe everything. I observed that the students are very lucky to have a

teacher that doesn’t scold them even if they are not in their proper seats. But they are abusing

it because they are very noisy. Sir Jeger commanded them to be quiet, and some listen to him

while some don’t. We stayed like that for an hour. When the bell rung, it’s time for the

lunchtime so we all parted our ways. In the afternoon, we have 2 classes only. These are at

the grade 7 and 8-2. So just like what I did earlier, I am here at the back observing them. I

stayed like that up to 5:00 in the afternoon. That ends my first day in doing my Work

immersion.

Day2(Feb.19,2020)

In the second day of my immersion, we start our day with a community rosary. After

that, I and sir Jeger directly go to our first class today which is the grade 9-2, we headed to

the library because it is their library time. Sir Jeger let the students find the unfamiliar words
in dictionary and write it to their notebooks. We remain like that until the bell ring. After that

I and sir Jeger stayed at his office for an hour and after that we immediately go to the grade

11 for our net class. So the lesson started. Sir Jeger discussed about the badminton while I’m

at the back. I also give additional to his lessons about it. After our class, we directly go to his

office again and we stayed there until lunch time. After lunch time, I volunteered that I will

be the one to make the quiz of the grade 11 about their class earlier. And sir Jeger let me do

it. After that, we directly go the room of grade 11 and we started with a prayer, after the

prayer, sir Jegger introduce me to the class that I will be the one to give them a quiz and he

immediately seated at the back. I command the students to get ½ crosswise because we are

about to start our quiz. After the quiz we checked it and after that the bell rung and our class

ended there. We go directly to his office again and waited until it’s time to go home.

Day 3(Feb. 20, 2020)

Today is general PSTA meeting and also the signing of clearance of the students for

their fourth preliminary exam as well as giving of report cards. I am here at the office of sir

Jeger with him, I’m helping him writing the grades of the students to the report card. After

that, we waited until lunchtime. After lunchtime, we headed to our first class which is the

grade 9-1. I volunteered that I will be the one to write on the board and sir Jeger let me do it.

We remain like that until the bell rung. After that, we didn’t go to our next class because it is

their time to have their signing of clearance. It is our vacant time but Ma’am Dabuan

borrowed me for a while to go to the her advisory and stay there because they are very noisy.

So I stayed there until it’s time to go home.

Day 4(Feb. 21, 2020)

Today is the continuation of the signing of clearance. I volunteered to sir Jeger that I

will be the one to check the notes of the students before they will get the sign of him, because

that is their requirements before sir Jeger will sign. This what I do whole day.

Day 5(Feb. 24, 2020)

Today is still the continuation of signing of clearance but at 9:50 the examination will

start. As what I did last time, I am tasked by sir Jeger to check the requirements of the

students before they will get a sign of him. When 9:50 strikes, I and sir Jeger immediately go

to his advisory which is the grade 8-2 to give their examination paper and to proctor. I am the

one who distributed their papers. We stayed like that until lunch time. After lunchtime, Sir

Adalem borrowed me to sir Jeger to proctor his advisory which is the grade 10 because will

attend the meeting. So I’m the one who stayed there and proctor them. I stayed there until

5:00 in the afternoon.

Day 6(Feb. 26,2020)

Today is the continuation of the examination of the student. We go directly to the

library to get the examination papers and directed to the advisory of sir Jeger to proctor. We

stayed there until lunchtime. After lunch, the examination is over that’s why the classes are

back in a normal way. We headed directly to our first and last class which is the grade 11. Sir

Jeger had tasked them before that they will bring the equipment used in badminton because

they are going to play it. Since they follow it, the grade 11 students did play. After that, we

headed to his office and stayed there until its time to go home.
Day 7(Feb. 27,2020)

Today is a regular class for all, so as what we always do in the morning, we started

our day with a community prayer. After that, I and sir Jeger go to our first class which is his

advisory. We just give their examination paper in Mapeh since they didn’t take their Mapeh

exam yesterday and we proctor them. I am standing at the back to guard if there is/are

students that cheats. After that, we headed to our next class which is the grade 8-1. I am at the

back observing them while sir Jeger is infront discussing their lesson. After that, we directly

go to his office and wait for the next class. But since our next class had their practice in their

upcoming JProm, its our free time so I’m here at the office of sir Jeger waiting for the

lunchtime and while waiting I’m doing my portfolio.

Day 8(Feb. 28, 2020)

Today is just a regular class. I and sir Jeger are going to our first class. As usual I am

here at the back observing them. We did that until the last period of our class in the afternoon.

Day 9(March 2, 2020)

Since sir Jeger is absent today, I am tasked by him to sub in all his classes. He send

me the copies that I will be writing and teaching to the students. There is no first class today

due to the flag ceremony that’s why the teachers are directly going to their second class and

that includes me. I am here at the grade 8-1 and we started our class with a prayer and after

that I started writing at the board for them to copy. After that I am explaining and teaching

them on what I’ve write on the board. We remain like that until the bell rung. After that I

didn’t go to my third class due to the meeting de avance and that’s why we are all gathered

here at the social hall. After that it’s time for the lunch break. At 12:40 pm, I am at the office

doing my portfolio because it’s my vacant time at the same time, today is the date where the
voting will happen for the next ssg for the school year 2020-2021. That’s why teachers and

students are busy. We remain like that until 5:00 in the afternoon.

Figure 4
Observation and Insights

As what always student do during their class hours, there are some of the students

don’t listen when the teacher is talking. Some just go with their friends and just chitchat

while some are just sleeping. There are times when the teacher is talking in front, and there

are 2 students running inside the classroom. These are the students coming from the grade

seven. They are very restless and naughty. From grade 7 to 11, my insights is, as a teacher

you need to talk to them nicely and slowly because they are the ones that need to guide

because their emotions are not yet strong, some of them end up crying with just a piece of

paper that thrown to them.

My cooperating teacher, sir Jeger Jeme Reynes, is a good teacher. But we all know

that there is no perfect as God. I observed that he is a teacher that never scolds students. He

never say anything even though the students are not in their proper seats. As long as the

students are listening to him, that’s okay with him. When the students are noisy, he just

command the students to be quiet. But there are just students who are very hard headed. They

don’t listen, that’s why sir Jeger end up on ignoring them. For me, they are noisy because

they are not in their proper seat, maybe if they are in their proper seats, the noise will be

minimized.
