6 VENTS, DRAINS, MEASURING IMPULSE TAPS FOR PRESSURE AND FLOW RATE, MEASURING TAPS
FOR LEVEL AND FLUIDS ANALYSIS, TEST AND SAMPLING TAPS

Branches shall be realized complying with the requirements in previous chapter "BRANCHES".
In general dimensional characteristics shall comply with the P&IDs and, where not defined, with the following table.
Wherever more demanding or stringently required, provisions in the reference documents and norms shall be applied.

In general connections between instruments and taps shall include, where foreseen by relevant documents, one or
two (for HP steam lines) root valves.
Where a primary root valves is foreseen (test tap included), it has to be operated in an accessible and safe position
by the Operator; access can be made possible by installing a tube between the measuring point and the valve.
For taps on insulated pipes/ducts root valves have to be installed external to the pipes/ducts insulation (if required
also the root valve shall be insulated).

A nipple shall be foreseen to connect the root valve.

Material and structural characteristics of the nipple shall be at least equivalent to the ones of the process line on
which the branch has been derived/installed.
If not differently indicated in the reference documents, dimensional characteristics and length shall comply with the
following table.

Taps for fluid sampling and analysis shall be in AISI 316L starting from the sampling probe.
Taps shall be provided with plugs to permit proper isolation of the process lines during flushing or rinsing before
arranging the line for start-up and operation.
Plugs for test taps (class 3000 for P<= 2500lbs, class 6000 for P> 2500lbs) shall be threaded.

7 TEMPERATURE SENSORS; TEST / SAMPLING TAPS

Dimensional characteristics of the thermowells shall be as follows:

For design temperature > 400°C 1" 1/4

For design temperature≤ 400°C 1"

Taps shall be provided with plugs to permit proper isolation of the process lines during flushing or rinsing before
arranging the line for start-up and operation.

8 VENTS AND DRAINS FOR HYDRAULIC TESTS DURING ERECTION/INSTALLATION

Vents and drains that are necessary just to accomplish the hydraulic tests of pipes shall be realized as follows.

a) non insulated pipes

branch dimension as per table at chapter "BRANCHES", without nipple but equipped with definitive threated cap
and with sealing final weld also if process line class foresees SW connections. In any case sealing welds shall
be avoided on galvanized pipes.

b) insulated pipes
branch dimension as per table at chapter "BRANCHES", without nipple but equipped with definitive threated cap
and threaded connection piece to permit the installation of the threaded cap. In any case final sealing weld shall
be applied.

9 TEMPORARY FILTERS

If foreseen, they will be specified.

10 HEAT INSULATION

Materials, thicknesses, finishing and all characteristics of insulations for pipes and ducts are indicated in the
dedicated Technical Specification.

In general the following indications shall be applied:

- P&IDs show the lines to be insulated and/or traced.
- The lines with design temeprature ≤ 50°C shall not insulated, unless insulation and/or tracing is required
for anti-freezing or specific process conditions (see the Technical Specification for insulation).
- All accessible surfaces with external temperature ≥ 55°C shall be insulated for Personnel protection
(see the Technical Specification for insulation).
- Drain and vent pipes shall have the same insulation as the line on which they are derived/installed, up to the
root valve (excluded where indicated). Same to be applied for instruments taps and hook-ups, where required.
- Valves insulation shall be made with dismountable covers.
