Chapter 1

Welcome to User Guide


March Networks® Keyboard V3 is a device designed to interact with SiteManager (version 3.6 and
higher) and the DecodeStation VX (version 2.1 and higher) applications. The Keyboard is able to
control PTZ cameras and interact with SiteManager’s and DecodeStation VX’s resources. March
Networks Keyboard can be installed and configured in a few minutes and it features an ergonomic
design and simple controls.

Understanding the Keyboard


Using March Networks Keyboard, an operator can:
• Move PTZ cameras, apply the optical zoom, and adjust the focus and iris controls
• Display resources on a DecodeStation VX monitor
• Play back archived video evidence stored on Command Recording Servers, 7532 Hybrid NVRs, and
local storage

Device Configuration and Maintenance


The Keyboard is quick easy to install: after you connect the Keyboard to a computer running
SiteManager or a DecodeStation VX, you must install its driver and enable the device in the
applications. You are also required to assign unique identification numbers to the single resources.

Compatible Devices
The Keyboard is compatible with any computer running SiteManager (version 3.6 or higher) or the
DecodeStation VX (version 2.1 or higher) application.

This guide outlines the configuration activities that operators can perform to set up and use a March
Networks Keyboard Version 3.
This guide is intended for operators.
This guide refers to the March Networks Keyboard - hardware revision 3.0 (MNV3), the
DecodeStation VX application (version 2.1 or higher), and the SiteManager software (version 3.6 or
higher).

Chapter 2

Setting Up the Keyboard


This chapter describes how to set up VideoSphere Keyboard, connect and enable the device on
SiteManager and on a DecodeStation VX.

Keyboard Overview and Specifications


The following images and table provide an overview of the Keyboard appearance, dimensions and

Installing the Keyboard’s Driver


To install the Keyboard, you must download the software driver from the March Networks Partner
Portal, and then manually install it on the computer.
Note: The the screenshots in this section were taken on machines running Windows 7. The
Keyboard installation works almost identically on Windows 7 and XP platforms.

To install the Keyboard’s driver


1 Download the March Networks Keyboard V3 installation driver from the March Networks
Partner Portal and unzip it in a directory of your choice.
Note: To download the driver you must register your account on the March Networks Partner
Portal. The account must also be validated by March Networks.
2 Connect the Keyboard to the computer.
Windows attempts to automatically install the driver, without success.
3 Access Windows’ Device Manager dialog box from the Start menu or from the Control Panel.
The Keyboard is located in the Other Devices section with the name DCZ.

4 Right-Click DCZ and select Update Driver Software.

The Update Driver Software for DCZ dialog box appears.

5 Click Browse my computer for driver software.

6 Type the driver’s folder path, or click Browse to navigate to and select the folder.

7 Click Next to proceed.


A warning dialog box appears.

8 Click Install this driver software anyway.


The driver installation process starts. After a few moments, the Keyboard is correctly installed on
the computer., and it is ready to be added and configured on SiteManager and DecodeStation
VX.

Switching from Right Hand Use to Left Hand Use


March Networks Keyboard V3 has been designed to allow for both left hand or right hand use.

To switch from right hand use to left hand use


1 After connecting the Keyboard to the computer, press the key and keep it pressed.
2 Press the key and keep it pressed.
3 Press the key and keep it pressed.
4 Release the key.
5 Release the key.

Calibrating the Joystick

6 Release the key.


The LEDs corresponding to the keys lights up.
7 Press the key to switch the Keyboard from right hand use to left hand use.
8 Remove the caption panel, turn it upside down, and then carefully insert it into the Keyboard.
9 Turn the Keyboard upside down. The joystick is on the left and the jog dial and shuttle ring are
on the right.
10 (Optional) Adjust the Keyboard cable and the feet on the rear side as required.

Calibrating the Joystick


The Keyboard's joystick can be recalibrated with a quick and easy procedure.

To calibrate the joystick


1 Press the key and keep it pressed.
2 Press the key and keep it pressed.
3 Press the key and keep it pressed.
4 Release the key.
5 Release the key.
6 Release the key.
The LEDs corresponding to the keys lights up.
7 Press the key to enter in calibration mode.
The keys in the center of the Keyboard light up and perform an animated sequence during the
calibration process.
8 Move the joystick in every possible position, and keep it moving for about 30 seconds.
9 Rotate the joystick lever clockwise and then counterclockwise multiple times.

Activating Test Mode

10 Leave the joystick idle.


After five seconds of inactivity, the Keyboard memorize the movements performed and
automatically calibrates the joystick.

Activating Test Mode


The Keyboard features a test mode that allows you to check the keys status.
Note: The test mode is temporary and is automatically deactivated every time the Keyboard is
disconnected from the computer or the computer is turned off.

To activate test mode


1 Press the key and keep it pressed.
2 Press the key and keep it pressed.
3 Press the key and keep it pressed.
4 Release the key.
5 Release the key.
6 Release the key.
The LEDs corresponding to the keys lights up.
7 Press the key to activate test mode.
Every time a key is pressed its corresponding LED lights up.

Enabling the Keyboard on the SiteManager Application


You can enable the Keyboard on the SiteManager application by accessing the Options dialog box
and by configuring the settings in the Devices Input tab.

To enable the Keyboard on the SiteManager application


1 Start SiteManager and log onto the application.
2 Click Tools on the menu toolbar and select Options.

The Options dialog box appears.

3 Click the Input devices tab.

4 Select the Console keyboard check box to enable the Keyboard in SiteManager.
5 Select the March Networks V3 option from the Model list.
6 Select the serial port the Keyboard is connected to from the Port list.
Note: If the Port list is empty, close the application, disconnect the Keyboard from the
computer, and connect to a different USB port.
7 Select the 9600 bps value from the Rate list.
8 Click Ok to save and apply changes.
9 Close and restart SiteManager. During the software restart, the key on the Keyboard flashes.

Enabling the Keyboard on the DecodeStation VX


Software
You can enable the Keyboard on the DecodeStation VX software by configuring the settings in the
Application tab.

To enable the Keyboard on the DecodeStation VX software


1 Start the DecodeStation VX software.

2 Click Menu and select Options.

The VideoSphere DecodeStation VX Password dialog box appears.

3 Type the system Password and click OK.


The configuration dialog box appears.
4 Click the Application tab.

5 In the Console keyboard section, select the Enabled check box to allow the user to interact
with the resources using the Keyboard.

6 Select the March Networks V3 option from the Model list.


7 Select the serial port the Keyboard is connected to from the Port list.
8 Select the 9600 bps value from the Rate list.
9 Click the Save and apply link to apply the changes after a software restart.

During the software restart, the key on the Keyboard flashes.

Chapter 3

Assigning Unique IDs to the Resources


This chapter describes how to assign unique IDs to the resources and resource groups using
SiteManager. You must assigning unique IDs to properly control resources using the Keyboard.

Assigning Unique IDs to SiteManager Resources


The IDs table is an integrated tool designed to assign and manage unique IDs to the SiteManager
resources. The tool is also a database of the assigned IDs.
The IDs table is a database of all assigned IDs. The unique ID is an identifier for the resource and
allows you to recall the resource with an external device, such as a keyboard.

To review the unique IDs


1 Click Tools on the menu toolbar and select IDs table.

2 The IDs table dialog box appears.

3 Filter the list of devices by clicking the resource icons.

To delete a unique ID
• In the IDs table, select a resource in the list, and then click Remove.
Note: Deleting a unique ID does not affect any of the other SiteManager capabilities.
SiteManager removes the unique ID without asking for confirmation.

To assign a unique ID to a resource


1 In the IDs table, click Add to assign a new unique ID to one of the resources added to
SiteManager.
The Resource ID dialog box appears.

2 Select the resource Type from the list.


3 Select the Server (if applicable), to which the resource is connected from the list.
4 Select the Resource from the list.
5 Select the Unique ID number from the list.
Note: SiteManager notifies you when a unique ID has already been assigned to another
resource.

6 Click OK to assign the new ID to the resource.


The resource appears in the list.

7 Repeat steps 1-6 to assign unique IDs to other resources.

Assigning Unique IDs to Resource Groups


SiteManager allows you to assign unique IDs to the resources added to a group and sent to a
DecodeStation VX. Every resource group has a specific set of unique IDs.

To assign unique IDs to a resource group


1 Double-click the resource group to expand the tree menu where the group’s resources are
shown.

2 Right-click the resource group and select Edit group.


The Group editor appears.

3 Click Autoassign IDs to automatically assign a unique ID to each resource within the resource
group.
Note: The automatically assigned IDs are only used by the resource group and are not applied
to the resources within a server. Every resource group has a specific set of unique IDs.
4 Close the Group editor.
5 Drag the group from the graphical interface to the DecodeStation VX primary monitor in the
monitor panel.

Controlling SiteManager’s Resources


You can recall and control any resource added to SiteManager using the Keyboard. The Keyboard
also allows you to control PTZ cameras and play back archived video evidence.

press this key followed by the number corresponding to the

Recalls a tour saved on the PTZ camera. To recall the tour press
this key followed by the number corresponding to the tour.

Opens the iris of a PTZ camera.

Closes the iris of a PTZ camera.

Adjusts focus on the image (far).

• In live mode, selects the number 1.

Displays a camera on the selected monitor. To open a camera,


press this key, followed by the number corresponding to the
camera’s unique ID. Press the key to confirm the selection.

Selects a monitor. To select a monitor, press this key, followed


by the number corresponding to the monitor’s unique ID. Press
the key to confirm the selection.

Turns on/off an alarm. To turn on/off an alarm, press this key,


followed by the number corresponding to the alarm’s unique
ID. Press the key to confirm the selection.

Turns on/off an AUX. To turn on/off an AUX, press this key,


followed by the number corresponding to the AUX’s unique ID.
Press the key to confirm the selection.

Displays a 2D map on the selected monitor. To open a map,


press this key, followed by the number corresponding to the
map’s unique ID. Press the key to confirm the selection.

Displays a view on the selected monitor. To open a view, press


this key, followed by the number corresponding to the view’s
unique ID. Press the key to confirm the selection.

Displays a sequence on the selected monitor. To open a


sequence, press this key, followed by the number corresponding
to the sequence’s unique ID. Press the key to confirm the
selection.

Displays a group on the selected monitor. To open a group,


press this key, followed by the number corresponding to the
group’s unique ID. Press the key to confirm the selection.
Note: You can send groups only to the primary monitor of a
DecodeStation VX.

Acknowledges an alarm, starting from the less recent.


Note: When an alarm is triggered, the key flashes.

• Exits from fullscreen mode and returns to the SiteManager


interface.
• In the date/time dialog box, selects the current field.

Opens the date and time search dialog box.

Confirms the selection.

Displaying a Resource on a Monitor


You can display any resource added to SiteManager on any monitor added to the application.

To display a resource on a monitor


1 Press the key to select a monitor.
The monitor dialog box appears on the screen.

2 Press the number key corresponding to the monitor’s unique ID.


Tip: You can also press the number corresponding to the VGA monitor’s unique ID to send
resources in fullscreen mode (Blank).
3 Press the key to confirm the selection.
4 Press the key corresponding to the resource you want to display.
The resource dialog box appears on the screen.

5 Press the number key corresponding to the resource’s unique ID.


6 Press the key to confirm the selection.
The resource is sent to a monitor.

Selecting a Camera Inside a View


When a view is displayed in fullscreen mode (VGA monitor) on the computer running SiteManager,
you must select a camera inside a view to access advanced functions such as playback of video
evidence and PTZ controls.

To select a camera inside a view


1 Press the key to select the computer monitor.
A dialog box appears on the screen.

2 Press the number key corresponding to the computer monitor’s unique ID.
3 Press the key to confirm the selection.
4 Press the key to select a view.
A dialog box appears on the screen.

5 Press the number key corresponding to the view’s unique ID.


6 Press the key to confirm the selection.
The view appears in fullscreen mode on the computer monitor.

7 Use the arrow keys to move the selection.

After you select a camera, you can review the related video evidence, or control the movement
of PTZ cameras.

Moving PTZ Cameras with the Keyboard


After you display a PTZ camera in fullscreen mode (VGA monitor) or you select it inside a view, you
can control its movement using the integrated joystick. You can also change the zoom and focus
levels, and modify the aperture of the iris, if applicable.
Note: You can also control PTZ cameras on the Virtual Desktop on SiteManager by pressing the
key followed by the 0 key. The PTZ camera window must be already open in the Virtual Desktop. PTZ
control is the only Keyboard feature supported on the Virtual Desktop.

To control a PTZ camera with the Keyboard


1 Display a PTZ camera on the computer monitor or select it inside a view. For more information
see “Displaying a Resource on a Monitor” on page 21 and “Selecting a Camera Inside a View” on
page 22.
2 You can control the camera’s movement by moving the integrated joystick.
The camera’s field of view follows the joystick movement and speed.

3 To zoom in or out using the optical zoom, rotate the joystick lever right (zoom in) or left (zoom
out).

4 Press the Iris keys on the Keyboard to modify the aperture of the diaphragm, if applicable.

5 Press the Focus keys on the Keyboard to modify the focus level, if applicable.

6 You can recall a configured preset view by performing the following procedure:
a Press the key.
A dialog box appears on the screen.

b Press the number key corresponding to the preset view.


c Press the key to confirm the selection.
The PTZ camera moves toward the preset view.
7 You can recall a configured tour by performing the following procedure:
a Press the key.
A dialog box appears on the screen.

b Press the number key corresponding to the tour.


c Press the key to confirm the selection.
The PTZ camera starts the tour.

Managing Sequences
After displaying a sequence in fullscreen mode (VGA monitor), you can adjust the sequence controls
using the Keyboard.

To manage sequences
1 Press the key to select the computer monitor.
A dialog box appears on the screen.

2 Press the number key corresponding to the computer monitor’s unique ID.
3 Press the key to confirm the selection.
4 Press the key to select a sequence.
A dialog box appears on the screen.

5 Press the number corresponding to the sequence’s unique ID.


6 Press the key to confirm the selection.
The sequence appears in fullscreen mode on the computer monitor.
7 Adjust the sequence controls by pressing the playback keys, as required. For more information
about the playback controls, see "Keys and Functions Overview" on page 17.

Reviewing Archived Video Evidence


The Keyboard allows you to review video evidence recorded on CRS, 7532 Hybrid NVRs, and on the
local storage of a device.
Note: You cannot export archived video evidence using the Keyboard.

To review the most recent video evidence


1 Display a camera connected to a CRS, a 7532 Hybrid NVR, or a camera with local storage, or
select it inside a view. For more information, see “Displaying a Resource on a Monitor” on
page 21 and “Selecting a Camera Inside a View” on page 22.

2 Press the key to select the recording sector.


The sector button on the playback toolbar changes color according to the selected sector.

3 Press the key to review the most recent video evidence archived on the sector.
Note: The key enables the playback controls on the numeric keypad.
4 Adjust the playback controls, as required. For more information about the playback controls, see
"Keys and Functions Overview" on page 17.
Tip: Alternatively, you can use the jog dial for a frame-by-frame review, and the shuttle ring for
the fast forward and fast rewind controls.

To perform a date and time search


1 Display a camera connected to a CRS, a 7532 Hybrid NVR, or a camera with local storage, or
select it inside a view. For more information, see “Displaying a Resource on a Monitor” on
page 21 and “Selecting a Camera Inside a View” on page 22.
2 Press the key to select the recording sector.
The sector button on the playback toolbar changes color according to the selected sector.

3 Press the key to perform the date and time search.


A dialog box appears on the screen.

4 Use the arrow keys to select a field.

5 Do any of the following:


• Press the key and then enter a new value using the numeric keypad.
• Move the jog dial clockwise or counterclockwise to change the value.
6 Repeat steps 4-5 to edit other fields.
7 Press the key to confirm the selection.
8 Press the key to start reviewing archived video evidence from the selected date and time.
Note: The key enables the playback controls on the numeric keypad.
Adjust the playback controls, as required. For more information about the playback controls, see
"Keys and Functions Overview" on page 17.

Tip: Alternatively, you can use the jog dial for a frame-by-frame review, and the shuttle ring for

Controlling the DecodeStation VX’s


Resources
You can recall and control any resource displayed on a DecodeStation VX using the Keyboard. The
Keyboard also allows you to control PTZ cameras and play back archived video evidence.

Keys Function

• In live mode, selects the number 2.


• In playback mode, pauses the playback.

• In live mode, selects the number 3.


• In playback mode, activates fast forward mode.

• In live mode, selects the number 4.


• In playback mode, goes back to the beginning of the video
evidence.

• In live mode, selects the number 5.


• In playback mode, stops the playback and disables the
playback controls on the numeric keypad.

• In live mode, selects the number 6.


• In playback mode, goes to the end of the video evidence.

• In live mode, selects the number 7.


• In a menu, moves the selection to the previous resource.

• In live mode, selects the number 8.


• In a menu, moves the selection up.

• In live mode, selects the number 9.


• In a menu, moves the selection to the next resource.

In a view, moves the selection to the left.

• In live mode, selects the number 0.


• In a menu, moves the selection down.

Displaying a Resource
You can display any resource sent to a DecodeStation VX on the primary monitor.
Note: You cannot display resources on the secondary monitors using the Keyboard. However, you
can switch the Keyboard controls from the primary monitor to a secondary monitor. For more
information, see “Switching the Keyboard Controls to a Secondary Monitor” on page 37.

To display resources by accessing a menu


1 Press the key corresponding to the resource you want to display.
The selected resource menu appears.
2 Use the arrow keys to move the selection up and down. Alternatively, you can move the
selection up and down by rotating the joystick lever.

3 Press the key to confirm the selection. Alternatively you can confirm the selection by
moving the joystick lever to the right.
The resource appears on the primary monitor.

Displaying a Resource

To display resources by selecting its unique ID


1 Press the number corresponding to the resource’s unique ID.
The selection dialog box appears in the upper right corner of the monitor.

Tip: You can reset the selection by clicking the key.


2 Press the key to confirm the selection.
The resource appears on the primary monitor.

Selecting a Camera Inside a View


You can select a camera inside a view by using the arrow keys.

To select a camera inside a view


1 Press the key.
The View menu appears.
2 Use the arrow keys to move the selection up and down.
3 Press the key to confirm the selection.
The view appears on the primary monitor.

4 Select a camera in the view by navigating with the left and right arrow keys. The selected camera
is highlighted in red.

5 After you select a camera, you can review the related video evidence, or control the movement
of PTZ cameras.

Moving PTZ Cameras with the Keyboard


After you display a PTZ camera on the primary monitor or you select it inside a view, you can control
its movement using the integrated joystick. You can also change the zoom and focus levels, and
modify the aperture of the iris, if applicable.

To control a PTZ camera with the Keyboard


1 Display a PTZ camera on the primary monitor or select it inside a view. For more information, see
“Displaying a Resource” on page 33 and “Selecting a Camera Inside a View” on page 34.
2 You can control the camera’s movement by moving the integrated joystick.
The PTZ camera point of view follows the joystick movement and speed.

3 To zoom in or out using optical zoom, rotate the joystick lever right (zoom in) or left (zoom out).

4 Press the Iris keys on the Keyboard to modify the aperture of the diaphragm, if applicable.

5 Press the Focus keys on the Keyboard to modify the focus level, if applicable.

6 You can recall a configured preset view by performing the following procedure:
a Press the key.
The Preset menu appears.
b Use the arrow keys to move the selection up and down.
c Press the key to confirm the selection.
The PTZ camera moves toward the preset view.
7 You can recall a configured tour by performing the following procedure:
a Press the key.
The Tour menu appears.
b Use the arrow keys to move the selection up and down.
c Press the key to confirm the selection.
The PTZ camera starts the tour.

Activating a Talk Channel


The Keyboard allows you to activate the talk channel (output audio) of a camera.

To activate a talk channel


1 Display a camera with an output audio channel on the primary monitor or select it inside a view.
For more information, see “Displaying a Resource” on page 33 and “Selecting a Camera Inside a
View” on page 34.

2 Hold the key to activate the camera’s talk channel. If more than one talk channel has been
added to the resource group, all of the talk channels are enabled at the same time.
3 Release the key to close the camera’s talk channel.

Switching the Keyboard Controls to a Secondary Monitor


The Keyboard allows you to instantly switch controls from the primary to a secondary monitor.

To switch the Keyboard controls


1 Display a camera or a view on a secondary monitor using SiteManager.
2 Press the key.
The Monitor menu appears.
3 Use the arrow keys to move the selection up and down.
4 Press the key to confirm the selection.
The Keyboard controls are switched to the secondary monitor.
Important: To switch back the controls to the primary monitor, you must click the key, instead
of the key to open the Monitor menu.

Reviewing Archived Video Evidence


The Keyboard allows you to review video evidence recorded on CRS, 7532 Hybrid NVRs, and on the
local storage of a device, and sent to a DecodeStation VX.
Note: You cannot export archived video evidence using the Keyboard. You can review only the
most recent video evidence recorded for the camera.

To review the most recent video evidence


1 Display a camera connected to a CRS, a 7532 Hybrid NVR, or a camera with local storage, or
select it inside a view. For more information, see “Displaying a Resource” on page 33 and
“Selecting a Camera Inside a View” on page 34.
2 Press the key.
The Sector menu appears.
3 Use the arrow keys to move the selection up and down.
4 Press the key to confirm the selection.
5 Press the key to review the most recent video evidence archived on the sector.
Note: The key enables the playback controls on the numeric keypad.

6 Adjust the playback controls, as required. For more information about the playback controls, see
"Keys and Functions Overview" on page 29.

Tip: Alternatively, you can use the jog dial for a frame-by-frame review, and the shuttle ring for
the fast forward and fast rewind controls.
