Week #4 Assignment

When I think of people, I think of a community that would help and protect

each other. Instead, we now live in a world where society has become a wild

environment where it takes to be the strongest on order to survive. Not too long

ago, as I was going through YouTube, I saw a video of a real-life harassment in a

college campus. In that video, the people walking by the situation were trying to

avoid conflict as much as possible as they knew that it would be their easiest way

out. With today’s technology, it becomes easier to ignore what surrounds someone

and could easily become an excuse to avoid conflict. However, this situation

doesn’t concern everybody, as Philip Zimbado’s study shows, when a well-dressed

man is acting drunk on the streets, most people are coming to help him but when it

is a homeless or even a woman then most people are going to want to avoid any

contact. This study shows us that human nature is and has always been about

survival on their own and that most people often don’t believe that helping others

will grant them any good, if not religious then personal. We always infere that

when we see something bad happening like an fight, an accident, or an assault, we

would absolutely do something about it. But when that does happen, we are either

scared, we do not want to get involved, or we simply ignore because someone else

will probably do something about it. We see videos uploaded online of scenes that

necessited intervention instead of videography skills, but nowadays we see more

and more of this.

The bystander effect happens when the presence of others demoralizes a

person from interceding in a crisis circumstance. The more the quantity of

spectators, the more uncertain it is for any of them to give assistance to an

individual in trouble. Individuals are bound to make a move in an emergency when

there are not many, or no other observers present. What I understood after

watching the video, is that offering help in situations like what the the first video of

the social experiment contained, people are more likely to intervene in a situation

of emergency either when they are not the only ones getting involved, or when

there are no other witnesses to the situation of emergency. Psychology proves that

human beings tend to follow the crowd, to go with majority, enabling them to

operate in a complicated environment. In the business world, when there is a client

need somebody will distinguish it and will be there to make a contribution quickly.

A business observer is an individual that has a thought of an appealing new item or

administration that can be created and chooses not to make any move. When after

some time the administration or item is really evolved by a challenging business

the observer may think twice about it however it will be past the point of no return.

It is hard not to assume acknowledgment for a great idea and see it abused by

others, yet a rude awakening can affirm that effective organizations are not based

on vulnerability, delaying and dissemination of duty. The greater part of us have

been there on some phase of our lives yet keen individuals gain from their errors

and do whatever it takes not to rehash them. Failing is an extremely positive result

as it shows that you attempted and makes you smarter and progressively proficient

to succeed, all things considered, the ones that do nothing can't ever fall flat.

Visionaries, organizers, industriously engaged, strong and likeminded individuals

are the ones that normally succeed. Try not to let life pass by as a dormant

onlooker; individuals that can dispassionately audit their own behavior, modify

their arrangements and have the mental fortitude to attempt over and over are the

ones that at last understand their fantasies. The psychology behind the Bystander

Effect is genuine, yet even modest quantities of preparing and a little situational

mindfulness make it workable for saints to rise regular. The equivalent can be valid

in a corporate setting. Ensure you know about the brain research, and afterward

tune in for the signs. You are in excess of a spectator in your organization – or if

nothing else you should be. So as to wipe out hurtful conduct and moderate the

dangers related with encountering violence, bullying, harassment or discrimination

at work, managers should make a move to urge workers to make a move.
