At dawn, as the sunlight stream through the patterns of the windows, the warmth can be felt
from the sunny weather of the city, surrounded by but the ambiance is just right for the aspiring young
journalists as they start their strong willed journey while climbing up their way to the top of the
building- Emilio T. Yap Hall or most commonly known as the “MassCom building.”
The lofty hall that was encored six years ago, was named after the Chinese-Filipino business
tycoon, and the former chairman of the board of the Philippines’ one of the most leading newspaper,
Manila Bulletin. His values and philanthropy work are always parallel as to how the college must
instill knowledge to its students; honoring Dr. Emilio T. Yap through a building, that continuously
inculcate in the students the philosophy of service to others and reminds them of its roots.
The building forms the second floor of the Instructional Media and Technology Center,
surrounded by cluster of academic buildings like the University Library, Divinity School, and the
College of Business and Administration building. Built with three air-conditioned classrooms; offices
of the dean and the guidance counselor; a television studio; a radio studio; an electronic newsroom; a
research and environmental news faculty lounge; a reading room named after Dr. Crispin Maslog ; and
a student lounge that hosts its students to gather around after a long period of their major classes.
“MassCom bukid” as some would call it, has its own ramp that was constructed in accordance
of the building code to cater for persons with disability (PWDs). The building is much better as to what
of becoming the voice of the people. Long and late classes will be endured; exams will be passed; and
reports will be delivered, thus, each will be trained to be the front liners of the society as far as
information is concerned with the help of its compelling lineup of the faculty and staff. The time rides
The building as a training ground for students, still serves its purpose in offering quality
education, as a ticket to the top. With that, the building stands strong for the hopeful ones to be
