DEMOCRACY

(ANALYSIS)

“Government of the people, by the people, for the people.” This is the definition
of former US president, Mr Abraham Lincoln for democracy. The word “democracy”
comes from two Greek words, demos which means people and kratos which is rule.
Democracy is that the people have the right to determine who governs them. People elect
the principal governing officials. In democracy, certain rights are implemented also the
citizens of that nation have freedom. Democracy started in ancient Greece which is in
Athens it served as one of the first forms of self-rule government in the ancient world. In
Athens, all adult citizens except women and slaves were required to vote and take an
active part in the government. Democracy is not only having freedom itself but it was
rooted of different principles.

Democracy has a variety of forms. Democracy also requires certain legally

protected rights and liberties for the population. There was called Temple of Democracy,
it consists five core ideas or sets of various principles. Temple of democracy has three
pillars that stand on a foundation with two steps and those parts represents its importance
and functions in democracy. The two steps is the foundation base of democracy, The
bottom set is a set of democratic values. The first step is Democratic values it was rooted
in several key values or norms such as freedom in speech, Inclusion is also included in
democratic values, Inclusion means that democratic rights and freedoms must be for
everyone. Equality means that democratic rights and freedoms must be accorded to
everyone on the same basis whatever its position on the community or group of tribes
they came from. Another part of democratic values is Equity, it means fairness. Equity
must not applies only in political aspects or participation, it should be in economic and
social relations. There are also called Basic value of democracy such as respect,
tolerance or acceptance of those who are different from others, Welfare, cooperation,
trust and security. The second step is The Rule of Law, it represents the principle of the
rule of law, the legal foundation on which democracy rests. The rule of Law is the power
of the state and its officials must be limited by the law and that no one is above the law.
There are also known as forms of democracy which are the Maximum and Minimum.
Minimum standards of popular sovereignty, civil rights and liberties, and economical
well-being while Maximum forms widen the scope of democracy to desirable but not
necessary in democracy.

Democratic governments have three essential functions or functional

components of democracy are represented by three pillars. First is to respect popular
sovereignty; Second is to guarantee specific rights and liberties and the third is to
enhance the economic well-being of the population. The first pillar, Popular sovereignty
notion that people govern themselves, it is important aspect of democracy because not
having it within democracy it would be impossible to have good government. It consists
two aspects, the participation and accountability. The second pillar is essential rights and
liberties, it is most important that must not taken away. Economic well-being is the third
pillar, it provide effective opportunity for everyone and to improve the quality of their
status in life.

Democracy has a huge contribution in one nation and to those people who are
living there. In this type of government everyone have freedom and essential rights but
democracy is not simple as that. It begun with a deeper foundation and solidarity. The
two foundations and the three pillars that was tackled above is the rooted and greatest
contribution in democracy that government are using up to now. It became contribution
in today’s world and life. If one part of it is weak or missing, the temple cannot stand
steadily and democracy is either partial at best or absent altogether. These five parts are
necessary in one nation under democratic government because the nation cannot be
successful and better without the one part of it. Democracy gives equal for everyone in
terms of protect the basic rights of citizens, education, projects in health and etc.
Democracy starts with small, the values which is very important up to the greatest which
is the Law that everyone must inherit equally and fairly whatever their status in society.
All steps and pillars that was stated above will be nothing if the government itself did not
follow and acknowledge that kind of process but also the success and abundance of one
nation is not only determine by the work of government itself but also the cooperation,
discipline, respect and unity of everyone is a good action to make one nation preferable.9
DEMOCRACY
(REFLECTION)

Democracy is for the people and by the people, as what the famous quote for
Democracy, for the citizens have the right to choose, whom they wanted to govern, and
by the people who build a set of rules or law, in legislative, it represent the rights of
whole citizen, to not abused by the government, however, Democracy is not just like
free to choose and decide whats the best for us, its set to the good aof eaxh citizen,
having a freedom but always a limit, when your wants can violate the others right, it
will not called Democracy, because we have our basis, under the law, and we have a
fairness to have the same opportunity that will be given by the government. Many
theories are concieve, through time, about the democratic form of government, many
defenitions that the theory describe the democratic form of government, but for our own
understanding, its all about the Humanity, thats why there is a set of values and rules for
Humanity. Democracy is known as legally protect the rights and liberties of every
individual, but the word "Humanity", limits some of the citizen just to do their own
sake, and its not just like that, for we have a same basis under the law, in sharing same
opportunity to have a right to live, to escape poverty, to have work, and to freely build
your own family and to have different beliefs or faith.

The democracy also has a core ideas, that based on what ive read, it explain the
democratic essential to the states and the values are include the fairness of all citizens
which is the foundation of the rule of law, to apply a fairness in social relations, the main
reason that the rule of law is needed as a basis of equity in all citizens. The two
foundational base of democracy are need to practice, even in our aspect of life, or in
small groups, like Family, in school, church and other organization, because we all
know that we are in a democratic country but we are obliged to obey laws and rules in
order for us to have freedom. In respecting others, to have sense of belongingness,
tolerance, cooperation, will help each of us to develop our belief, perspective, and
social well being as a continue progress on behalf of our state, through the help of
representative in our country, im enforcing the law, there will be a liable elected
officers in our government to ensure that the law will enforce and will be manifested in
all citizens, they are expected to have a commitment and willingness To play a huge part
to represent on behalf of the citizens, in ensuring the safety of all citizens and to
promote opportunities for citizens to play their role in society, in order to meet the goal
of democratic country. The leaders are liable to consider the laws that set by the
democratic values in protecting human rights.

For the good sake of the citizens, they must not violate the rights of other people.
"Freedom is a word that defines the democratic form of government, but freedom has
their own responsibility that citizens need to do, is to freely choose our role in
contributing a huge part in society. We have our own freedom of speech to voice out our
claims, opinion and suggestion. North korea is poor in economic status, because many
of them are not given a privelege to have an education and the rights are taken away
from them, to decide for their own lives, and everything is controlled by the
government, and it violated the human rights, and their form of government is different
in our country. As a free men, we should apply the freedom through, respecting other
people, and accepting that we have different role in society.
