Qn “Computers and the internet are indirectly influencing classroom practices of

a teacher in the current era.”

Drawing on your experience as a teacher, discuss the above statement.

In the first instance teachers incorporate several software applications to help

students learn more about the course materials. Word processors, drill and

practice programs, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software which has

enabled teachers to create fun and interactive ways to help learners the course

materials alongside reinforcing computer skills. For example, a teacher can direct

learners to web quests. Org to reinforce internet browsing skills.

Secondly, classroom practice has been affected by computers and internet which

have undoubtedly affected teaching, Learning and research. High level of research

2
has proven the benefits to the quality of education. Computers and internet have

innovated, accelerated, enriched and deepened skills hence motivating and

engaging students to relate school experience to work practices.

Computer and the internet have helped to remove communication barriers such

as that of space and time. They have also allowed the creation of digital resources

like digital libraries where most learners and professional can access research

materials and course materials from anywhere at any time.

Further-more, integration of computers and internet can help revitalize teachers

and learners. This can help to improve and develop the quality of classroom

practice by providing curriculum support in difficult subject areas.

In addition. Computers and internet help students to incorporate research skills

to answer homework questions and compose essays. In this case, teachers

challenge students to create blogs, and podcasts about their course work or extra

credit.

3
Computers and internet are indirectly influencing classroom practice in that, it

can also enable one to help students to begin more detailed information about

the main points presented in daily lesson plan.

Computers improve performance, teaching and development relevant skills to the

disadvantaged learners. It also improves the quality of teaching by facilitating

learning through doing, real time conversations, self- learning, problem solving,

information seeking and analysis and critical thinking as well as the ability to

communicate.

Computers and internet increases the flexibility of delivery of a lesson so that

learners can access knowledge any time and from anywhere. This can influence

the way students are taught and how they learn since the process now are

learner driven and not by teachers.

4
Use of computers and internet in a classroom practice can develop higher order

skill such as collaborating cross time and place and solving complex real world

problems. Hence improving his perception and understanding of the world of the

students.

Computers and internet help students to do their learning by improving the

communication between them and their teachers or instructors even when they

are away from each other.

Through off lipped classroom model in which learners watch teachers lectures at

home on their computers and they discuss what they have learned with their

teachers and pees during class time can strongly improve learning.

Computers and internet can improve classroom practice in that, they open door

ways to a wealth of information, knowledge, and educational resources,

increasing opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom.

5
Finally, computers and internet allow learners to receive and view their

assignments on line and submit work via e-mail hence reducing the costs of

reducing printing.

However, desirable as they are, computers and internet may have the following

disadvantages or negative influences on classroom practices.

There might be waste of valuable time, it is a human being who builds technology

not technology that creates a human being. As humans are not era free,

technology does not carry error free. There are a lot of problems which take time

to travel or shoot hence hindering the learner process.

Secondly, they have mis-guided by wrong information, with the speeding

development of technology, the websites owners urge to rank their websites

higher in search engines. So only concentrate on ranking instead of content they

are posting. Many websites came with wrong information that has been copied

and posted from other sources without checking its authenticity.

6
Thirdly, major challenges for teachers, everyday scientists come with new

discoveries and challenges that keep technology rolling every second. Software

keeps on up grading and if a teacher does not have technical skills to execute it in

right direction, he will keep teaching unworthy content.

Increased cyber building: it is an illegal activity where especially young stars fall

under the trap of illegal crimes without their knowledge. The young learners have

an easy access to umpteen accounts that tend them to enter into dark tunnels of

harassments which has an entry but no exit at times.

In addition, computers and internet disconnect learners from the real world. In

recent days, to equal pace with technology, educators are busy in educating

learners with it online education tools instead of communicating orally. This

makes them unable to interact with their teachers and share their problems

openly to overcome them. Teachers Vail to draw learners attention.

Partial or the low income groups; some low income schools in Uganda do not

have access to a huge number of computers to make it available to all the

7
students, so in this case those students may be unaware of the basic computer

skills that have been learnt by other students at ever early stage.

Finally, extinct of good handwriting; as smart phones, laptops, desktops, tablets,

wholly replaced the use of paper and pen therefore, finding a person with a good

handwriting is difficult. This means that people are sacrificing their handwriting to

adopt technology for quick learning.
