Time Needed: 49 minutes

2. Materials Needed: Standards of Excellence teacher’s edition, recording of Dark Ride, scores
for Dark Ride and Adrenaline Engines, baton, stand podium, reflection survey/assessment.

3. Learning Objectives: Students will learn how to listen effectively for musical concepts and
apply them to their own playing; students will learn how to participate in a music rehearsal
effectively

4. Assessment: Students will reflect on their initial expectations and their performance
immediately following.

5. Personal Objective: I will rehearse the ensemble efficiently and will encourage students to
form their own opinions about the music.

6. Procedure:
 2 minutes for students to prepare materials and instruments
 5-minute warm-up in d minor and F Major
o Conduct students through ascending and descending scales, as well as varied
scalar patterns in the keys found in the repertoire.
 5 minutes for exercises from Standards of Excellence in the keys of d minor and F Major
o Conduct students through further exercises in these keys to help strengthen
technical and sightreading abilities.
 3 minutes to listen and finger along to recording of Dark Ride
o Prepare students to perform the piece and to allow them to form a concept of its
style. (Analyze)
 3 minutes to discuss the piece
o Ask questions regarding the style, mood, technicality, etc. of the piece; beginning
with general questions that become more specific.
 10 minutes to sightread the piece
o Take the piece at a slower tempo than is written in order to ensure more accurate
playing. (Perform)
 3 minutes to continue to fill out first week reflection sheet
o Hand students reflection sheets in order to record their current interpretations and
perceived abilities. (Compare/Contrast, Explain)
 17 minutes for Adrenaline Engines, focusing on counting through different meters and
learning notes and rhythms
o In-depth rehearsal of the piece in order to address common mistakes and correct
them.
 1 minute for closure, practice assignment, and put away instruments and music
o Make students aware of what is expected of them for next rehearsal and to neatly
and securely store instruments and music.

7. Closure: Praise students for their efforts and encourage them to continue their hard work.
