“Let’s become mathematicians, shall we?

Form for Best Practices – Digital Portfolio

Subject: 2D-3D Perspectives Age-group: 6-10 year-old children Grades: 1st and 4th grades
Goal of the activity:

• Learn how to identify the diferent features of geometric solids, such as edges, vertices, shapes and faces;
• Classify the geometric shapes according to their features;
• Matching different geometric solids to objects we use in our everyday-life;
• Matching the description of geometric solids to their pictures;
• Make the pupils think from 2D to 3D;

Target skills: Resources used

• Several bingo cards

• Observation skills and focus;
• Geometric solid cards
• Listening to understand;
• Recycled materials (caps) to mark
• Identify and classify geometric solids according to their features;
the images that have already been
• Relate geometric solids to objects;

Activity description

A. For 6-10 years old pupils

• Give each child a bingo card.

• Shuffle the cards to be shown or presented by one of the students
• Show it one by one and wait for the children to find its matching solid image on their card. Each child must mark the
image with a cap.
• The child who first fills in the bingo card wins.

➢ Students from 6 to 8 years old are supposed to associate the image of the solid with everyday-life objects.

➢ Students from 8 to 10 are supposed to associate the image of the solid with everyday-life objects taking into
consideration their description (number of faces, vertices, edges and shape of their faces), planning and name.

Visual prompts

• A3 or A2 poster with a Venn’s diagram with glued chocolates/blocks, etc.

• Maths worksheet

Assessment (+ the best aspects to keep and the aspects that need improvement)
+ aspects aspects

• Easy to use and integrate in class ; • Pupils tend to be a bit noisy while doing
• Can be applied to different activities and routines this activity as a groups
during the week and weekend • The bingo cards must be changed often
• Makes it easy for students to memorize geometric to avoid memorising without proper
solids i connection to relaty; understanding;
