The Impact of Fashion Trend to the Social Acceptance of the Grade 11 Students

of MCC-Dapdap

Chapter 1:

Introduction

Fashion has been associated with garments and trends and it is still remaining
popular for a long period of time as people in the society use it. According to the
Michigan Fashion Media Summit, fashion is not just restricted to expensive dresses but
something that we deal with everyday in our life and it is for the convenience of human
being and most influential medium in the world. In fact, fashion is the fabric that weaves
the values of our culture it is everywhere around us existing in different figure.
According to Rachel Zoe, fashion speaks unique language and is used as a tool of
communication and style of our bodies and reveals more about our identities than
sentences from our mouth. But, Fashion also changes depending on what is Trending.
According to Sangita (2018) it is normal for the fashion trends to change according to
seasons. Trend is referred to as what is popular at a certain point of time and it is also
always used frequently with Fashion (Hasa, 2016).

Fashion Trends have become instrument to express themselves and to enhance

our appearance and overall personality that puts good impression to the others. It gives
freedom to build confidence and creativity through it. Fashion is also used by some
people to socialize with other people. Fashion is very important even before up until
now.

Social acceptance according to UNICEF Voice of Youth’s (Lalaland07, 2016) it is

a concept that modern being craved for. People seek acceptance for everything they
do, because people are always driven by boundaries and lines that they must not cross.
Being accepted leads to being treated with respect and we have a strong tendency to
evaluate other people comparing or consequently judging them good or bad in their
fashion. People tend to use Fashion trends as an instrument to be accepted by the
society and other people and they tend to think of it as a tool of an individual
appearance.

The Researchers aims to conduct this research for they are curious if fashion did
have an impact on the social acceptance of the students in Grade 11- of Mabalacat City
College – Dapdap.

Joining the bandwagon on fashion trends is very popular among students these
days. Do students need to join the bandwagon to be accepted by the society they
belong in. Therefore, the researchers are conducting the study which seeks to find on
how many students thinks that to be able to cope up and be one with everybody, people
need to join the bandwagon on fashion trend. The researchers aim to know if fashion
trend really has an impact on social acceptance of the students or youth in the society.

1. Fashion Effects on Society

According to the article written by Khan, 2017 entitled “Fashion

Effect on Society”, Man’s concept of fashion was only used to cover themselves.
It was also that time when man started making fashion as their source of income.
By doing fashion they also started to think on decorating their selves and this
concept has been called “Fashion Trend”. Even in earlier civilization people
wanted to be more unique than other people that is why they started to change
their way of clothing from time to time. In the article, fashion is defined as a
constant change of trend. It was also said that fashion is more frivolous than
practical and logical. However, fashion nowadays is used as something that can
describe you or your personality. “Fashion is a reflection of one’s inner self and
not a reflection of every one’s expectation. “Said Khan
It has become a tool that individual person uses to enhance their
appearance. According to Khan “It is necessary to say that at the present
moment, fashion has gained deeper influence on the life of people and possess
more than just ambition reasons for its existence.” It is used now as a “Self-
realization” of an individual and not as just a thing to cover themselves. This
article showed that fashion trend has an impact on how people try to express
themselves as an individual and try to cope up with the society. For fashion trend
is now thing to many people. The more expensive your clothes are, the more
friends you have. The more beautiful what you are wearing, the more people will
look at you with adoration.

2. Fashion: From Class Differentiation to Collective Selection

According to the book that Herbert Blumer, 1969 wrote “The

Sociological Quarterly, Vol. 10, Issue 3 ‘Fashion: From Class Differentiation to
Collective Selection” Fashion has not been well studied in sociology. The
studies are only limited in scope but also within the chosen limits are very
sketchy. Fashion as their topic in sociology was more general than specific that
made them more lacking in trivia and information. Blumer also said that there is
a major deficiency in the conventional sociological treatment in fashion. For it
was viewed with false ideas such as the idea of fashion being abnormal and
irrational and is out of mainstream of human population. This study showed that
fashion has not been that studied and understood in many fields. Thus, fashion
is misunderstood by many people by believing in such norms of our society. It
was said in the book he wrote that fashion is viewed by the sociologist only in
the area of costume and adornment. But, fashion has become more diverse now
in modern times and is used by the society as something to project our
personality.

3. Fashion and Social Identity: A Cultural Phenomenon

According to the article written by Vir Shete, 2012 “Fashion and

Social Identity: A Cultural Phenomenon” we live in a postmodern consumer
society where constant change and growing is unpredictable unlike before.
Therefore, this has given deeper meaning to fashion and fashion has been
playing a vital role in the society. “People used fashion as one of the most ready
means through which individuals can make expressive visual statements about
their identities”. (Bennett, A., 2005)

4. How does fashion affects our lives and our society?

According to the article written by Rajarshi Nath (2013) entitled “How

Does Fashion Affects Our Lives And Our Society?”. As long as we live in a
society, fashion will matter to people. Fashion is a reflection of who we are
because it determines our personality or it just a preference thing on how we
dress can determine our taste in style. According to Rajarshi Nath, Director at
feed good films (2013) Imagine a racing track wherein fashion is the finish line,
whose starting point is similar but the lanes are not same. Every lane is unique
to its mindset at fashion. There are lanes (mentality) of fashion that we should
know:

Lane # 1 – Comfort
A lot of people wear stuff what comforts their skin or mood.
According to researchers from the University of Queensland we dress how
we’d like to feel or how we’d like others to think we’re feeling. In short, fashion
reflects and affects our mood and overall confidence.

Lane # 2 - Label
In this lane, people use labels to position themselves in society in
simple word, they are brand conscious people. For example, some people
think I-phone users are considered classy and rich wearing a branded things
like H&M, GUCCI and Etc. you will be perceived as rich or good tasteful.

Lane # 3 – ART

People here are extremely experimentative or these are the

trendsetters of the society. In short, Fashion Trend is one of the importance
things in society.

Lane # 4 – Vanilla

They dress as per occasions. Not as per taste or choice.

Fashion can affect our society because we have different definition

when it comes in fashion. Fashion is basically the new trends that come into the
society and make the person look more rational.

5. The Trends of Fashion Among Student

According to the article written by Adam Sibuyi (2016) ” The Trends of

Fashion Among Student” Fashion refers to the manner of doing something.
Fashion also denotes style, a dress and hair and dealing with others. Generally
it is the student community alone leads the fast changing fashions. Once a thing
or style gets in range, it is blindly followed by the students.

These days, boys, who by birth are expected to be hardy and rough
look pale, tender and delicate. Every fashion within limits is crossed. It is a pity
that modern student are caught deliberately in the whirl pool of fashions. To
make a noise in functions, to pass remakes on others to discuss politics and to
raise parties are, in a way their fashionable pastimes.

Another fashion rampant among student, they should not clamor for
right but try to acquire knowledge whole heartedly and with single minded
devotion. Their duty is to amass the wealth of learning and not to flatter
themselves about false sense of self-respect.

Local:

1. Fashion Is For Everyone

According to the article written by Trina Epilepsia (2012) on MEGA “

According to Nika Diwa: Fashion is for Everyone” fashion has been a mirror that
reflects our self and identity as an individual. It is an instrument that shows your
message to the world. This article showed that Fashion is powerful to many
people and to our society. Social acceptance and Fashion trends are knotted
together as one. Fashion is important as social acceptance.

2. Philippines As A Fashion Capital

According to the article written by Dr. B.M. Villegas (2012)
“Philippines as a Capital” Philippine fashion industry has grown rapidly because
of the demands that have been growing through the years. Local and foreign
have been competing since the rise of the artistic and talented designers. They
have affected the flow of fashion trend throughout the years. Because of that Dr.
Villegas said that there are cities in the Philippines that might have been the
next fashion capitals in Asia. Fashion standards have been set throughout those
ages. Even the conservative way of dressing has been tackled in this article.
This made the researchers say that fashion trend might really have an impact to
our society and especially to our social behavior.

3. Fashion. Youth. Philippines

According to the article written by Juban (2008), “Fashion. Youth.

Philippines” Filipino youth fashion sense reflects what other countries have
been doing. Filipinos have been so influenced by other culture in the way of
making it as their fashion too. It’s a way of how people usually express their
thoughts and emotion.

1. On The Nature Of Trends: A Study of Trend Mechanisms in Contemporary

Fashion
According to the research of Valentin (2010) “On the Nature of
Trends: A Study of Trend Mechanisms in Contemporary Fashion” The
condition of trend mechanisms according to this ‘anything goes’ paradigm
seems to be close to impossible. To support her argument, she quotes Ben
Whyman, writer and lecturer at London College of Fashion for saying: “It’s
always been difficult to define an era’s trends without generalizing, but
nowadays, it’s difficult to even define what a trend is.” It was suggested that
perhaps the pluralism of trends have become so prolific that it has become
difficult to determine what will be the trend at a given time, and as a
consequence it was suggested that trends were going out of fashion or indeed
expiring altogether. In On the Nature of Trends: A Study of Trend Mechanisms
in Contemporary Fashion, I have attempted to consolidate the field of trend
studies by creating the theoretical platform for determining how and why
trends in fashion change. The 21st century that require new approaches for
understanding and describing them. Only then was it possible to offer a
qualified answer to whether or not trends ever made it into the 21st century
shown how trends and trend mechanisms are alive. “When it comes to fashion
in 2008 the only prevailing trend is that there are no prevailing trends. From
excess to minimalism, free-spirited ingénue to tailored sophisticated—and
everything in between—designers are mining just about every culture, decade
and mood to create a distinctly ‘anything-goes’ aesthetic.”

We are also influenced by the fashion industry, fashion change all

the time because many people influenced by fashion trends in social media
and Hollywood celebrities like the Kardashian – Jenner family who use social
website and influenced most people. Fashion have been changed that allowed
more freedom of choices. As long as we live in society fashion trends will
matter to people. Fashion has a lot of negative effects in our society people
easily judge the one person by the first thing which notice your appearance.
2. Foreign Fashion Influence On The Ghanian Youth And Its Impact On The
Local Fashion Industry

According to A.M. Amankwah, e. k. Howard, G. D. Sarpong.”

Foreign Fashion Influence On The Ghanian Youth And Its Impact On The Local
Fashion Industry ” This paper brings to the fore the effect of foreign fashion and
the responsiveness of local fashion especially the fashion industry in Ghana.
Generally the youth is one of the best examples that have interest in fashion
they tried to be fashionable and influenced a large extent by foreign fashion in
the society. The level of foreign influences and how it affects the local fashion
industry. A descriptive survey approach was employed Quantitative research
based in accessing data from a number of sources, interview with key fashion
designers in examining the impact of foreign influence on the youth. The extent
of the influence affects the youth and the local fashion industry positively and
negatively. Fashion is cultural contributions cannot be denied : fashion itself is a
reflection of social, economic , and cultural changes. Fashion industry has a
huge impact on or world today it is important because fashion is the relationship
it maintains with the society, which has become more complex in the recent
years.

3. Approaches To The Study Of Dress And Fashion

According to the research of Skov and Melchoir (2008) “ Approaches

To The Study Of Dress and Fashion” Dress and fashion are rich and varied
fields of study. From the 1960s to the 1990s, the leading educational institutions
with words like dress and fashion in their titles, were, firstly, design schools and
technical training institutions, servicing the industry, and secondly, institutes
devoted to the study of dress history, directed as museums. It was only in the
last decades of the 20th century that various approaches were integrated across
disciplines and institutions so that it became possible to talk about something
like ‘fashion studies’, reflected by the emergence of research centers, academic
journals and graduate programmes with such heading. However, both the term,
and what it is perceived to represent, is contested; while some scholars and
institutions endorse ‘fashion studies’, others reject it or distance themselves
from it.

Wearing a proper dress can boost your confidence and define your
personality as an individual person in society. Nowadays, it is a common trend
to follow fashion especially they want to fit the clothes similar to those they see
in magazines and television. Fashion expresses what kind of person you are.
You can still have your own style that makes your own character stand out.

4. About Fashion Trends Researcher: Theoretical And Chronological Aspects

According to the research of Lipovetsky (2007) the “About Fashion

Trends Research: Theoretical And Chronological Aspects” The hyper
consumption defined by the philosopher Lipovetsky (2007) is one of the most
striking features of contemporary societies. The habit of acquiring goods overly
and quickly is one of the pillars that support the complex configuration of the
behavior of individuals today.

The Aveiar (2009) argues that globalization approached the

companies with regard to both economic and cultural issues when quoting
Castells (1999) wherein he said that the exchanges take place much more
quickly, because individuals are organized in a network.

According to this information, companies’ allied anthropology and

ethropology, sociology, psychology ad philosophy to its creative process, in
order to analyze society and its consumption practices, after all the starting point
of any creative activity that aims the exchange of values in a capitalist
environment is the consumer.

5. Fashion Trends And Its Impact On Society

According to the research of Saravanan () “ Fashion Trends and Its

Impact On Society” Fashion trends come and go ; meanwhile a society’s values
are established and evolving characteristic to their beliefs and culture. Fashion is
not all about beauty or ambitious image of a one person to become worthy
enough in a society’s appreciation. In the society, the individual’s appearance is
the ticket to transmit nonverbal communication signals such as possible cues
about his or her social stature, values or lifestyle.

The success of the fashion trend lies in the way the society
interprets the fashion trend and judges it. The impact is measured by the social
acceptance which in turn is driven by the several motivational forces that
underlined the people’s values and behavioral traits.

Attitude is an expression of the feelings and values. The consumers

are motivated to consume it as a form of self-expression ( Snyder and DeBono
1985). The growing trend of self-awareness for ones look has influenced of
individual behavior. So the trend of the day is self-expressive anonymous style
that tends to remove social prejudices about the fashion in the society.
Anonymous style trends opens up the societal expressions unheard unseen ever
before. As Coco Chanel said, Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to
do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”. We have freedom to choose
our fashion in this society it maybe to motivate the other people or to become an
inspiration in fashion. The world of fashion is so discrimination that is why it
affects our impact in society; the way you dress is what people view you as. If we
are living in a society, then it is not bad thing to follow fashion trend, but we need
to know our limit. Fashion will not be harmful to our society if we learn to balance
or to limit some things.

1. The Theoretical State Of Philippine Youth Studies

According to the research of Lanuza (2004) “ The Theoretical State

of Philippine Youth Studies” This article deals with the current theoretical trends
in Philippine youth research. In youth studies, a clear distinction is made
between theories on youth in transition and theories of youth culture. Whereas
theories and research on youth transitions often use quantitative data – (and
therefore need to operationalize their ‘variables’) – cultural studies uses various
qualitative methods, alongside a more elastic definition of, and conceptual
approach to, young people’s socio-material living conditions. The argument
made in the present article is that we need a theoretical renewal in youth
studies that will enable us to thoroughly explore class, gender and ethnicity in
light of the intersections between social and cultural positions. At the same
time, we also need to elaborate our conceptual tools to capture contemporary
transformations of social identity among youth and in society and culture. The
aim is to reintroduce three central concepts in the renewal of youth studies, that
of identity, subculture and resistance. Furthermore, it is imperative that connect
and create links between these concepts and theories of youth in transition.

2. The Evolution Of Fashion In The Philippines

According to research of Island Paradise (2006)”The Evolution Of

Fashion In The Philippines” The Spanish colonized country went under the
influence of America and soon popular trends especially clothing became
evolutionized in the eyes of the Filipinos. In the Pre-colonial era, the earliest
native men wore waist length collarless doublet shirts made of rough cotton.
The women wore sleeved dresses that were appropriately short. Men were
introduced to standing collared shirts with lace and gem accents called
“barong.” the Filipino native women started to modify their traditional dresses
into a much more conservative look called “baro’t saya” to show respect to
foreign priests. Today, the styles one can now see across the country is
contrasting in compared to how natives wore clothes back then. Imagining the
looks on the older generations on what teens are wearing today is priceless. In
the old times, the Filipino women did not wear such revealing clothing.
Although the evolution of fashion has changed over the centuries, the “Barong
Tagalog” and the “Filipiniana terno”, are what is constantly used today as a
symbolization for Filipino tradition and culture.

3. Social Acceptance as a Philippine Cultural Theme

According to Frank Lynch S.J (1961) social acceptance was

defined as being taken by ones fellows for what one is, or believe, and being
treated in accordance with his status. The concern of the study was value
system found in the lowland Philippines, with the principles aims, and
conviction that seem to be at word in the behavior one observes in this society
we talk about social acceptance. Social acceptance inform of fashion. This is
one society people observe person by their fashion styles. Fashion trend has a
big influence including to the behavior of people.

4. Philippine Cultural Values: Non-rationalism and Social Acceptance

As stated by Robin Williams (2016) the “Philippine Cultural Values: Non-

rationalism and Social Acceptance” in his research he establish criteria to identify
what are the values of being culture. These extensiveness, duration, intensity,
and prestige of values carrier those are based on Williams and he classified as
non-rational, economic and social improvement value. In this study of researcher
they can use this to their study

SYNTHESIS

In the article of Khan (2017) fashion has been used as a core of someone’s
identity. As the times passes by it has become so big that it became as source of
income of the people. Also, according to the book written by Blumer (1969) fashion was
not that broad that time in sociology but fashion has been so widely accepted by many
but not in sociology. Fashion trends in sociology are not that popular at that time and
some are only stereotyping fashion. But now, fashion has become big and mainstream
in modern times, that is why the researchers seek to give more new knowledge about
fashion trends and social acceptance. According to Vir shete (2012) fashion trend has
been a cultural phenomenon in to the modern society. It has given deeper meaning to
today’s fashion and has become very vital to the pointy that it reflects our identity; and
according to Sibuyi (2016) fashion denotes style and because of that student
community leads the fast changing fashion. As for the Philippine Local Literatures.
Fashion reflects our self and our identity as an individual (Epilipsia, 2012). Fashion is
growing so fast in the Philippines through the years that Philippines may become as a
fashion capital in Asia (Villegas, 2012) and according to Juban (2008) Filipino youth
sense reflects what other countries doing. It means fashion trends affects local fashion.

According to the study of Valent (2010). A study of trend mechanism in

contemporary fashion, Ben Whyman writes and lectures at London College of Fashion
for saying. It is always been difficult to define an eras trend without generalizing but
nowadays, it is difficult to define what a trend is. Trend is a part of society which has a
big impact to the people. Foreign fashion influenced the local fashion industry. The level
of foreign influences a large extent by foreign fashion in one society. Fashion industry
has a huge impact on the world because wearing a proper dress can define your
personality. In the studies of Skov and Melchoir approaches to the study of dress can
boost your confidence. According to the information companies allied anthropology
sociology and philosophy after all starting point of any creative activity aim exchange of
values. ( Lipovetsky) according to Saravan fashion trends and its impact on society
success of fashion trend lies in the way the society interpret their fashion if we living in
this society we have freedom to follow our fashion style. According to the local research
Lanuza (2004) the theoretical state of the Philippine youth studies deal with the current
the critical trends in the Philippine youth research. As stated by Island Paradise (2006),
the Philippine has evolved in fashion, the style one can be see across the country
compared to how natives wear cloth back then because of that social acceptance
belong to the issue in fashion trend. According to Frank Lynch S.J (1961), social
acceptance was defined being taken by ones follow for what one is. Social acceptance
in form of fashion has a big influence including to the behavior of people. Robin Williams
(2016) stated that Philippine Cultural values non rationalism and social acceptance.
This research was conducted to identify what the values of being cultural are.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Fashion - is about expressing your identity using your clothes to tell someone
something about you. (https://www.oxfam.org.uk/fashion-blog/2013/07/what-does-
fashion-mean-to-you)

Trends – in fashion, it is defined as something that is a hip or popular at a certain point

of time. Trend is also usually refers to a certain style in fashion or entertainment.

Fashion Trends – fashion styles that changes depending on what season or style is in.

CHAPTER 2
Research Design

The Researchers used a Quantitative Research design because

According to Marsh (1982) quantitative research can provide information and
explanation that are important to individuals. It uses a formal way of collecting data and
it investigates in detail and is not bias. Also, Quantitative Research Design uses
statistical tool to measure the data that are collected by the researchers to validate the
output of the research. Furthermore, the researchers would determine how many
students said that Fashion Trends does have an impact to their Social acceptance and
how many did not think that it has an impact.

Participants

The Researchers chose 50 Grade- 11 Students in Mabalacat City College-

Dapdap Senior High School. The research was conducted between the months of
August to October year 2018.

Sampling Design

The sampling design that the researchers chose and used is random
sampling. They chose this sampling design because according to Easton and McColls’s
each individual is chosen entirely by chance and each member of the population has an
equal chance of being included in the sample. Every possible sample of a given size
has the same chance of selection. The Researchers have chosen students per track by
using cluster sampling technique to determine the exact number of students who will
participate in to the research.

INSTRUMENTAL TOOLS
The researchers decided to use questionnaires with choices or checklist
because it is easy to test data for validity and it is less time consuming than doing
interview and observation .Questionnaires use as a foundation of the research.

The researchers used p-test and frequency distribution as their statistical tool
to estimate their output.

Frequency
x 100=%
Number of Res pondents

Frequency = number of output from the survey

Number of respondents

DATA COLLECTING PROCEDURE

After the researchers letter got approved by the School Head of MCC –
Dapdap to conduct a survey to the grade 11 students they will start to conduct the
survey to the 50 randomly selected students. They will use questionnaires with choices
or checklist as their instrument. As said in the first sentence the researchers chose to
randomly select their participants to be fair and give everybody a chance to participate
in this study and the sampling design they used is random sampling. After they
conducted the survey, with the help of statistician they measured and determined how
many students said that fashion trends does have an impact to the social acceptance of
the Generation Z and how many did not agree that fashion trends do have an impact to
our society.

DATA ANALYSIS

The researchers will gather the data via survey questionnaires and after that the
data will be analyzed using p-Test to answer the statement of the problem.
First the SOP 1, the researchers will find the percentage of how many students
picked a certain fashion trend that they think is very in today to answer the statement of
the problem 1.

Second the SOP 2, to answer the statement of the problem 2, after the
researchers conducted their survey they will measure how many students agreed that
fashion does have certain impacts to an individual’s social acceptance by using p-test
as stated above.

Third the SOP 3 and 4, the researchers will look for the most chosen or fashion
trend that has the highest rate by the students and also, they will look for the least
chosen fashion trend that is given by the researchers using the p-test formula and with
the help of their statistician.

The Impact of Fashion Trends to the Social Acceptance of the Grade -11 Students of
MCC – Dapdap

This study aims to know if fashion trends have impact in the social
acceptance of an individual. Fashion is an art and is directly associated with you and
your personality and fashion also changes its trend with every season (Khare, 2016).
Social acceptance is a concept that modern being craved for ( Unicef Voice of Youth,
2016).

In line with this, the researchers would like to know your idea regarding the following:

1. As a student, what are the fashion trends in your generation?

Chapter 3

Result and Discussion

In this chapter the results, discussion and the statistical result will be shown.

1. Fashion Trends that are in for Generation Z

Table 1 shows the number of respondents who chose a fashion trend that they
think is in for generation 2 and it also shows the percentage of the respondents who
chose a particular fashion trend. For vintage fashion style trend 11 out of 50
respondents chose it and it is 22% of the respondents. Only 7 out of 50 respondents
chose sporty chic style fashion trend which is equivalent to 14%. For pastel color
fashion trend there are also 11 out of 50 respondents who chose, which is 22% percent.
Nude color only has 6 out of 50 respondents who chose it, which is equivalent to 12%.
While, High Fashion Style has 9 out of 50 respondents who chose it and it is equivalent
to 18%. 5 out of 50 respondents chose Floral Fashion trend and is equivalent to 10%.
Only 4 out of 50 respondents chose Western or American Fashion Style trend, there for
it has the lowest percentage which is only 8%. Meanwhile, the last fashion trend that is
listed here is Korean fashion style which has 20 out of 50 respondents who chose it,
which is equivalent to 40% out of 100%.

Meaning that Fashion Trends quickly change that even the students have
different opinion about what is “in” for Generation Z. Which Lipovetski (2007) describe
as the hyper consumption. Where he explained that the habit of acquiring goods overly
and quickly is one of the pillars that support the complex configuration of the behavior of
individuals today. And base on the result the Fashion trend that has the highest
percentage is Korean Fashion trend which has 40%. Which implies that Korean Fashion
trend is currently the Fashion trend that is for Generation Z.

This implies that fashion trend has a big influence including to the behavior of
people (Frank Lynch, 1961). Therefore, people tend to buy whatever they see as
pleasing and attractive to their eyes. The result is fashion trends quickly changing in a
certain amount of time.

2. Fashion Trends that are in for Generation Z

Table 2 shows the respondents percentage that they chose in a particular
fashion trend. To boost confidence 32 out of 50 respondents chose it and it is 64% of
the respondents. To look more attractive to other people has 19 respondents out of 50
and it is 38% respondents. 7 out of 50 respondents chose To look more sociable which
is equivalent to 14%. To become more popular has only 2 out of 50 respondents chose
it and it is 4%. Teens being materialistic have 12 out of 50 respondents chose it and it is
equivalent in 24%. Being judged because of what you wear has 25 respondents chose it
and it is 50% out of 100%. Money is wasted has 11 out of 50 respondent chose it and it
is equivalent in 22%. Teens prefer foreign outfits than traditional has 16 out of 50
respondents chose it which is equivalent in 32%

This means to say that has two impacts and it is the Positive and Negative Impacts. In
Positive Impact the highest percentage is “To boost confidence” has 64%. “To look
more attractive is the second highest percentage of Positive Impact. “To look more
sociable” has 14% while the other one is only 4% which is the “To become more
popular”. In Negative Impact the highest percentage is 40% which is the “Being judged
because of what you wear”. Teens prefer foreign outfits than traditional has 32%.
“Teens being materialistic” has 24%. “Money is wasted” has only 22%.

According to A.M. Amankwah, e.k Howard G. D. Sarpong. This paper brings to

the fore the effect of foreign fashion and the responsiveness of local fashion. Some
people gain their confidence by following in the fashion trend. And also, some people
are afraid to follow fashion trend because they are afraid of being judge by other people.

3. Most Evident Impact: Positive and Negative

Table 3 shows what are the most evident positive and negative impact among
the others and how many respondents chose that specific impact. For positive impact;
“to boost confidence” that has the most numbers of respondents who chose it. “Always”
has 19 out of 50 respondents which are equivalent 38%, “often” has 14 out of 50
respondents which is equivalent to 28%, “sometimes” has 13 respondents which is
equivalent to 26%, “rarely” has 3 respondents which is equivalent to 6%, “never” has 0
respondents. To look more attractive, “always” has 13 respondents which is equivalent
to 26%, “Often” has 17 respondents which is equivalent to 34%, “sometimes” has 14
respondents which is equivalent to 28%, “rarely” has 7 respondents which is equivalent
to 14%, “never” has only respondent which is equivalent to 2%. To look more sociable,
“always” has 8 respondents which is equivalent to 16%, “often” has 18 respondents
which is equivalent to 36%, “sometimes” has 15 respondents which is equivalent to
30%,”rarely” has 4 respondents which is equivalent to 8%, “never” has 14 respondents
which is equivalent to 28%. To become more popular, “always” has 8 respondents
which is equivalent to 16%, “often” has 9 respondents which is equivalent 18%,
“sometimes” has 13 respondents which is equivalent to 26%, “rarely” has 7 respondents
which is equivalent to 14%, and “never” has 8 respondents which is equivalent to 16%.
As for negative impacts; for being judged because of what you wear that has the most
numbers of respondents who chose it. “Always” has 18 out of 50 respondents which is
equivalent 36%, “often” has 11 out of 50 respondents which is equivalent to 22%,
“sometimes” has 12 respondents which is equivalent to 24%, “rarely” has 6 respondents
which is equivalent to 12%, “never” has 2 respondent which is equivalent to 4%. Teens
being materialistic, “always” has 14 respondents which is equivalent to 28%, “Often” has
17 respondents which is equivalent to 34%, “sometimes” has 14 respondents which is
equivalent to 28%, “rarely” has 3 respondents which is equivalent to 6%, “never” has
only 1 respondent which is equivalent to 2%. Money is wasted, “always” has 15
respondents which is equivalent to 30%, “often” has 14 respondents which is equivalent
to 28%, “sometimes” has 12 respondents which is equivalent to 24%, “rarely” has 6
respondents which is equivalent to 12%, “never” has 2 respondents which is equivalent
to 4%. Teen prefer foreign outfits than traditional, “always” has 18 respondents which is
equivalent to 36%, “often” has 12 respondents which is equivalent 24%, “sometimes”
has 9 respondents which is equivalent to 18%, “rarely” has 6 respondents which is
equivalent to 12%, and “never” has 4 respondents which is equivalent to 8%

This means to say that fashion trends has positive impact in students. According
to Hameed (2016) fashion these days can upgrade or boost student’s confidence level.
Base on the results the most evident impact for both positive is to boost confidences.
Which has 38% out of 100% and the least is to look more attractive to other people
which only have 2% out of 100%. This means to say that fashion trends also has
negative impact in students. According to Juban (2016) most of the students spend their
time to fashion than studying. Base on the results of most evident negative impact is
being judged because of what you wear, Which has 36% out of 100% and the least is to
teens being materialistic which only has 14% out of 100%.

This implies that affects students’ level of confidence both positive ways. This
leads to the social acceptance of the students, they dress nicely to boost their
confidence and look nice in front of many people (Skov and Melchoir, 2008). But this
can also lead in to them being judged because of what they wear. (Saravanan and
Nithyaprakash, 2015)
