1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Installing the LENOVO Fan Speed Control

Your computer is shipped with an LENOVO Fan Speed Control Adapter and its
factory-installed device driver. Refer to the following directions.

2. INSTALLING THE LENOVO FAN SPEED CONTROL DRIVER


-------------------------------------------------
For your convenience, the following procedures describe how to install
the HWM driver software.
The Unattended Fan Speed Control Driver Installation as described in 2.2 allow
s to
install the drivers and configure your monitor settings by a single command
line. You can also set parameters for a 'silent' installation (no messages
displayed during the installation).

2.1 Menu-controlled Fan Speed Control Driver Installation

1. Click the 'Start' button in the task bar, click 'Run' and then select
'Setup.exe' from the hard drive or CD-ROM directory where the driver
files are stored. The 'LENOVO Install' dialog appears.
The LENOVO installation dialog displays in English if the language of
your operating system is not supported.
2. When the 'Welcome' window appears, carefully read the message and click
'Next' to continue.
3. When the 'Setup COMPLETE' message appears click 'Finish' to finish the Ins
tallation.

2.2 Microsoft Windows Installation Instructions

1. Click Start Menu, then click Settings, then click Control Panel.
2. Under Control Panel, click Add Hardware.
3. Follow the Add Hardware wizard instructions to install the driver.
4. Choose ¡°manually¡± to install the hardware, and then click Next. Click Have Disk, cl
ick Browse, locate the spio.inf file, and then click Open.
5. Finish Diver Installation.
Note: After Diver Installation, do following steps to Check Whether Fan Speed Co
ntrol Diver is working properly.
1. On the desktop, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
2. Under System Tools, click Device Manager.The devices that are installed on
the computer are listed in the right pane.
3. Expand System devices, if Fan Speed Control diver is working properly, the

If you prefer to configure your system by command line editing you may install
the
HWM drivers and set the monitor configuration of your primary display as follo
ws:

1. Open a command prompt window by clicking on 'Start', 'All Programs',


'Accessories', 'Command Prompt'.
2. Go to the directory which contains the LENOVO device driver (e.g. C:\LENOVO
_DRVS)
3. Enter the following command:
SETUP -s
These are the command line options. Please see section 2.3 for valid
options:
-s Silent Installation - no installation messages displayed during
installation.

3. UNINSTALLING THE LENOVO FAN SPEED CONTROL DRIVER

This section describes how to uninstall and LENOVO device driver.
These drivers must be uninstalled by a user with Vista Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or Vista User's
Manual for more information on Administrator privileges.

3.1 Menu-controlled Fan Speed Control Driver Uninstallation

1. Start Windows.
2. Click Start control bar option, and click Control Panel.
3. Click Uninstall a Program, Double click LENOVO Fan Speed Control Drivers
4. Click continue -Yes -Yes.
5. Click -Finish.
3.2 Unattended Fan Speed Control Driver Uninstallation (But you still need to cl

due to Vista security policy in this installation mode)

If you prefer to configure your system by command line editing you may install
the

-f1 Specify the Uninstallation respond file on Silence mode.
-f2 Specify the Log file on Silence mode.

4. UPGRADING THE LENOVO FAN SPEED CONTROL DRIVER

This section describes how to upgrade and LENOVO device driver.
These drivers must be upgraded by a user with Vista Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or Vista User's
Manual for more information on Administrator privileges.

4.1 Unattended Fan Speed Control Driver Upgrade (But you still need to click "ye

Fan Speed Control drivers and set the monitor configuration of your primary di
splay as follows:

2. Go to the directory which contains the LENOVO device driver (e.g. C:\LENOVO
_DRVS)
3. Enter the following command:
SETUP -s -f1"C:\LENOVO_DRVS\upgrade.iss" -f2"C:\LENOVO_DRVS\upgrade.log"
These are the command line options. Please see section 2.3 for valid
options:
-f1 Specify the Upgrade respond file on Silence mode.
-f2 Specify the Log file on Silence mode.
