COURSE NAME: Structural Analysis-III
CREDIT HOURS: Theory = 3
Practical = 0
Total = 3
CONTACT HOURS: Theory = 48
Practical = 0
Total = 48
PREREQUISITES: CE-206 Structural Analysis-II
MODE OF TEACHING:
Instruction: Three hours of lecture per week 100%
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides the knowledge and understanding of analyzing structural elements by Matrix
Method of analysis. The course is covered in three primary parts as matrix stiffness method of analysis,
matrix flexibility method of analysis and introduction to structural dynamics. Each primary part has three
to four secondary parts based on structural element degrees of freedom per node like springs, truss, beam
and frame elements. Each structural element is covered in details encompassing formulations for load,
displacement and stiffness/flexibility matrices and subsequent solution procedure for analysis and
obtaining the desired outputs in terms of external reactions, internal forces like shear force and bending
moments and displacements.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To learn and understand the matrix methods of analysis for indeterminate structures under static loads.
To learn and understand basics of structural dynamics.
RELEVANT PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs):
The course is designed so that students achieve following PLOs:

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS:
The purpose is to develop students’ fundamental understanding of the principles of structural analysis in
the modern engineering office. Matrix methods have in effect made many of the older “classical”
methods of structural analysis redundant and is applied in the computer applications of analysis.
