Citizenship and Good Governance

A country will become organized and peaceful if citizenship and good

governance are present. According to Merriam-Webster, Citizenship is the quality of
an individual's response to membership in a community and Governance is the
action or manner of governing based on Google’s Dictionary. Other people may
think that the government is the only one who is involved with this two but no, all
the citizen of a country is included.

It is said that the good governance is argued to be the most important in

local governments. It tries to promote more relationships between government and
(1) Empowered citizens, (2) Neighborhood councils, (3) Community councils. Part of
governing is to connect with the people and include them in the decision making.
Other than that, they manage all the constitutional laws and other matter in which it
would help make things in order. Example of this matter is the electoral system. As
for the citizenship, it is us people doing our responsibility as the citizen of the
country to help foster a good development to the place we live in. Part of this
responsibility is being a registered voter and be part of the voting in election. There
are a lot things we, most especially of the youths today, must abide and join many
organization to help not only our country but also our fellows.

Citizenship and Good Governance is essential to a one place because it helps

reach success and achieve goals of one country. It helps maintain the stability of
the political, economic, social condition and other aspects that comprise the holistic
development of the country. We should not only let the government shoulder all the
problem and some matters regarding our country, let’s get involved and participate
for the wellness of everyone!

2. Drug Addiction and Prevention

Up to these days, drug addiction is still a notorious problem in the country no

matter how much effort the government makes to make it vanish. It is a serious
matter in which people who are into drugs causes’ violence to others and harm to
themselves.

In this topic, different kinds of drugs were discussed and variety of signs and
symptoms effects were given. This is to make each and every one of us to be aware
of those illegal substances and why we should not take them because of its effects
it might bring us. Sure, some of it may bring satisfaction and ecstatic experience we
even haven’t experienced before but once we fell into its trap, it would be hard to
stop taking those. Once we get addicted, this is the start of the phase where we
could already put our lives in danger then eventually bring harm to the people
around us. But it’s not too late to change and leave this craving, one who’ve
become a drug addict must go through rehabilitation and let yourself free from
those evil things. Help decrease the rate of the users of these illegal drugs in the
Philippines and be a good and productive citizen.

Become a person who brings good fortune to others, not the one who brings
trouble. Remember to always side in the good path and always tell to yourself that
bad vices isn’t the answer to all your problem. God is always there and he will never
give you a problem that you can’t solve. And if you are only curious about drugs,
don’t even think about trying it or else, there’s no turning back.

3. Disaster Management

The past few years experiencing both natural and human-made disasters and
calamitites had been hard for the people who have been affected by it. Because of
the lack of knowledge in managing these kind of phenomena, many properties and
lives have been lost. As the years pass by, the development of disaster
management has become evident with the help of the local authorities and the
NDRRMC.

In the Philippines, we encounter a lot of situations that cause severe

damages to live and properties and they are poverty and mariginalization and
resource depletion. These factors can lead to human-made disasters and natural
forces. Above all these, we must always be prepared of what will happen to us. We
must know what we should do before, during, and after that disaster. Another thing
is to learn to listen to the news always and when the authorities advise us to do
certain things for our safety, we must follow. Though this terrifying events are
inevitable and might likely still affect some citizens, everyone should at least offer a
helping hand aside from the government who has this relief system and
rehabilitation centers for the victims.

It is then important to let yourself be educated about disasters so you can be

able to gather up knowledge about how to manage it and be able to put yourself on
the safe ground. Sharing this knowledge to others and helping them at times of
catastrophe will also make their lives at ease. And for the last thing, remember to
pray to God at all times for the safety of everyone and guidance from Him.

4. Environmental Awareness and Protection

Our environment plays a vital role in our daily living. It gives us what we need
as human and provide us shelter to live in comfortably. Though, the mother earth
wasn’t only for us to enjoy its benefits. We aren’t the only creatures living in this
world. Animals, plants, and other living things has also the right to consume the
resources and has privileges to live peacefully. In addition to that, this is the only
place where we can breathe so we should take good care of it. But what are we
humans doing? We abuse the environment only thinking about ourselves! Our need
and fulfilling our wants! We do things disregarding the fact that there are also other
creations of God who might be affected with our own doings.

Climate change, deforestation, waste management, water scarcity, and

ecosystem and endangered species has become the result of our own activities in
the environment. They deeply affect the condition of the world and affects the way
how the living things live. Because we abuse things that gives us everything, we
ended up suffering from it and not only that, we also let the innocent creatures
suffer too. We should be afraid of what world might the next generation has to live
in. A world with an extreme heat and cold, full of pollution, trashes, disaster, no
clean water to drink or even fresh air to breath, and a world where there is only few
animals and plants living. What would life be in the future? We must be aware of the
events happening around us and protect the environment.

Because of our negligence to the environment, we became the reason of the

world’s destruction and extinction of other species and now we became the key to
change everything. It’ll start with awareness, a preliminary step for this changes
and little by little, making a big step one at a time, we can finally be able to
enhance the world we sometimes abused.

5. National Security Concerns and Peace Education

We, citizens, wants to live a life with no violence and trouble happening
around us. To meet this concerns, the government is responsible to this national
security for all to be able to survive in all aspects of life. They protect everyone from
crimes or any form of violence and ensure a peaceful living.

Peace is essential in maintaining national security and safety of the Filipino

people. As it is important, people are being educated about peace and what must
one do to be able to achieve it. One of these is to participate in any projects that
the government will conduct and activities to get involved. This will make everyone
knowledgeable enough to be able to avoid or overcome the word “threats” and
“violence.” The government makes way to provide the national security the country
needs and so the citizen must took part and be involved.

If we want something, let’s make an effort to have it in hand. As the

government tries hard, we must also try harder. As the youth of today’s generation,
we must be vigilant and alert regarding any factors that might cause threats to our
national security and find ways to solve or prevent it from happening.
