Lesson Title Merci Suárez Changes Gears - Meg Medina (Candlewick, 2018). Grade 6th
Subject Area/Topic English Language Arts – Reading for Aesthetic Enjoyment
Enduring Understanding Students will read for enjoyment a novel to which they can relate.
At the end of this lesson the students will be able to:

Entry/Focus Activity Students receive a daily “Do Now” bell ringer question to answer in their

“Bell Ringer” literature journals, “What character in the book do you relate to most, and why?”
Anticipatory Set The group will discuss the bell ringer question, and see how their answers are

Merci is a sixth grader dealing with the difficulties of growing up, including
