The total number of deaths from terrorism in Iraq fell from Maawsil al-Jadidah

Iraq in 2017. In line with the overall decrease in terrorist
activity, deaths cause by ISIL decreased by 52 per cent from
2016 to 2017, dropping from 7,368 deaths to 3,554.

ISIL experienced severe territorial and financial setbacks in


2017 as a result of international and Iraqi-led coalitions. After
the government reclaimed major Iraqi cities such as Mosul and
al-Qaim, there was a substantial drop in terrorism.10 A
