To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter to highly endorse Mr. Mebin Kuriakose in seeking a new graduate
position in your fine institution. Mebin has been a natural leader in the Sue & Bill Gross School
of Nursing, at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). While still maintaining a high GPA, Mebin
has accomplished so much in his undergraduate Bachelor’s Program in Nursing at UCI and has
been a role model for his entire class.

In the role of caregiver, Mebin has demonstrated great compassion and skill. In his desire to
work more closely with nurses and patients early on, he trained as a CNA and worked in the
Neuro ICU at University of California Irvine Medical Center (UCIMC/UCI Health) since 2018.
Likewise, in his desire to better understand therapeutic, patient-centered care and
communication skills operationalized by nurses, Mebin volunteered to become a member of
the Practice Council at UCI Health.

In the area of professional activities, Mebin has been a proactive student leader among his
cohort, and beyond. For example, he has focused on change of major transfers and developed a
student-inspired orientation for these students so that they can come together and share
experiences. As a student, engagement was key. Thus, it was not unusual for Mebin to be on a
number of student organizations. These included ASUCI Nursing Science Senator, Board
Member of Nursing Science Student Council, and Founder of the St. Mary’s Nursing Club. Each
of these leadership roles provided Mebin with opportunities to engage fellow nursing students
and to share his passion for Nursing.

Most likely one of the greatest passions Mebin shares is his love for research. He has been
working in research studies among several faculty. For myself, Mebin was excited to join a team
of nurses who were engaged in a study to train nurses at the bedside to become more
knowledgeable about discussing sexual concerns among patients with cancer. The results were
highly significant. Mebin was part of the team, and contributed greatly to the manuscript,
which was recently published. His commitment to research was also demonstrated in
establishing the Nursing Research Associates Program, which linked students to research
projects at UCI Health. The program is the first of its kind and is yet another indicator of
Mebin’s dedication to the future generations of UCI students.

Mebin has also been funded with a University Research Opportunity Program (UROP)
Fellowship Award in 2020. Additional awards which reflect his service and passion to UCI
Nursing also include the Elizabeth Tierney Nursing Scholarship Award in 2018 and Barnes and
Noble College Scholarship in 2019-2020.

In summary, I am excited about the future that Mebin has in front of him. I highly recommend
him to be one of your stars in your institution.
