Cut Nyak Dhien


Cut Nyak Dhien was born in Aceh Besar 1848. Her father Teuku Nanta Setia,
and her mother was also from an aristocrat family. She was educated in religion and
household matters. Many men proposed to her until her parents arranged for her
marriage to Teuku Cek Ibrahim Lamnga when she was twelve.
In November 1873, during the second Aceh Expedition the Dutch successfully
captured VI mukim in 1873, followed by the sultan’s palace in 1874, in 1875,
CutNyak Dhien and her baby, along with other mothers were evacuated to a
saferlocation while her husband Ibrahim Lamnga died in action Gle Tarum on June
29, 1878.
Some time after the death of her husband, an Acehnese hero Teuku Umar
proposed to her. Although she rejected him as first, she accepted his proposal as
long as Umar allowed her to fight and they were married in 1880. Teuku Umar and
Cut Nyak Dhien had a daughter named Cut Gambang. Dhien was very determined
to stay in the war so she took her daughter it with her.
The war continued and the Acehnese declared a holy war against the Dutch
Teuku Umar was killed during the battle, when Cut Gambang cried over his death,
Cut Nyak Dien hugged her and said: “As Acehnese women we may not shed tears
for those who have been martyred.”
After her husband died Cut Nyak Dein continued to resist the Dutch until its
destruction in 1901. Furthermore Cut Nyak Dien suffered from nearsightedness and
arthritis as she got older. The number of her troops kept decreasing and they
suffered a from a lack of supplies
One of her men, Pang Laot, told the Dutch the location of her headquarters in
Beutong Le Sageu. The Dutch assaulted, catching Dhien and her troops by surprise.
Dhien was captured, but her daughter Cut Gambang escaped and continued the
resistance.

The Elephants

Once upon a time there lived a group of mice under a tree in peace. However, a
group of elephants crossing the jungle unknowingly destroyed the homes of all the
rats. Many of them were even crushed to death.

Then taking of rats decided to approach the elephant's chief and request him to
guide his herd through another route. On hearing the sad story, the elephant's king
apologized and agreed to take another route. And so the lives of the rats were
saved.

One day elephant-hunters came to the jungle and trapped a group of elephants in
huge nets. Then the elephant king suddenly remembered the king of the rats. He
summoned on of the elephants of his herd, which had not been trapped, to go seek
help from the king and told him about the trapped elephants.

The rat's king immediately took his entire group of rats and they cut open the nets
which had trapped the elephant's herd. The elephant herd was totally set free. They
danced with joy and thank the rats.

The pronghorn is a mammal. It has a deer-like body. It has a tan reddish
brown body. It’s cheeks,belly,rump,chest and inner legs are white.
The pronghorn has horn,not antlers. It’s. Horns made of two parts: a bony
core that is covered by a sheath made of a stiff hair-like material. It is the only
animal that has branched horns and sheds it’s horns each year. The outer sheath
falls of every year in the fall and then grows back in the summer.
The pronghorn is the second fastest land animal in the world. It can run at
speed of up to 60 miles per hour and run long distances at speeds of 30-40 miles
per hour. It can make bounds of up to 20 feet when it is running.when the
pronghorn runs, it’s mouth is open so it can breath in extra oxygen. Speed is
important because the pronghorn lives in open areas where there is no place to
hide from a predator.
The pronghorn is active all day long. It has excellent eyesight and can spot a
threat up to four miles away. When the pronghorn is threatened,it may attack with
its sharp hooves.

another kingdom. The king asked his Quees to save her life. In the middle of the
jungle, the enemy killed all her guards. However, the Queen was lucky because
she changed herself into a golden snail and survived.

Whenever the old woman was not at home, the snail turned into a human being.

The Badui call themselves Urang Kanekes. Urang means people in
Sundanese, Kanekes is the name of their sacred territory, located in the
Kendeng Mountain in south Banten, Java. The Badui rely on controlled
interaction with the outside world to maintain the tradition of their group and to

The ability of the Badui to maintain their mysterious image by restricting

What is the largest on earth? It is Rafflesia arnoldiii, a smelling native plant
of Sumatran rainforest.
For the years, the Rafflesia has fascinated humans by its gigantic size and
obnoxious smell of rotten flesh. Since sightings of this flower are rare as the
flower only stays for a few days after blooming, many explorers, botanists and
curious tourists have embarked on long expeditions to catch a glimpse of this
flower.
Rafflesia arnoldii, also known as the “corpse flower” plant, is unique in every
possible way. This plant is a complete parasite lacking roots, stems and leaves
of any kind, but lives attached to its host plant with flowers visible on the surface
of the host plant as the only evidence of existence of Rafflesia. The main body
of the plant, consisting of thread-like strands of tissue is completely embedded
within the host’s tissues.
The flowers are produced from large buds that are about 30 centimeters
wide, and the flowers themselves are as large as three feet in diameter. The five
lobed flowers are reddish brown in color with white spots. The lobes of the
flower appear to emerge from the based of a cup like structure which hosts
cylindrical column with a disc. The flowers might be either male or female with
anthers or styles growing underneath the disc.
