RESOLUTION

WHEREAS: The Wake Forest University Student Government recognizes that acts of sexual
misconduct and sexual violence are prevalent on our campus, and victims of such acts should be
supported, and;

WHEREAS: The Student Government recognizes that the Wake Forest University defines
sexual misconduct in these forms, “
1. Sexual/Gender-Based Harassment
2. Sexual Assault
3. Stalking or Cyberstalking
4. Relationship Violence” , and; 1

WHEREAS: The Student Government recognizes that the World Health Organization (WHO)
defines sexual violence under the umbrella term of interpersonal violence and includes acts of
sexual assault, unwanted sexual attention, sexual coercion, and sexual trafficking as sexual
violence, and;2

WHEREAS: The Student Government strives to represent the interests of our student body and
stands with all victims of sexual misconduct and sexual violence, and the Student Government
will continue to raise awareness for those victims, and;

WHEREAS: The Student Government recognizes that the World Health Organization’s
definition is not the University’s definition, and;

WHEREAS: The Wake Forest Student Government will work with the University Safe Office,
Title IX Office, and other campus resources to conduct a “Culture of Respect” survey regarding
acts of sexual misconduct and sexual violence on campus. 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: 

1. The Wake Forest University Student Government recognizes that acts of sexual
misconduct and sexual violence are present nationally and on our campus, and it
condemns all of these actions. We pledge to focus on condemning acts of sexual
misconduct and sexual violence and, therefore, foster a sense of community for all
students on Wake Forest’s campus through planning an awareness event on March 20th,
2019 with SAFE Office and the PREPARE team, and future events during Sexual Assault
Awareness and Prevention Month in April;

2. As the representatives of the student body, the Wake Forest University Student
Government will be allies to victims of sexual misconduct and sexual violence within the
Wake Forest University community, by pledging to actively seek open lines of
communication with the leaders of the Wake Forest communities, as well as distribute
this Resolution to and meet with the Offices of the Provost, Vice President of Campus
Life, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Dean of Students, University Safe Office, Title
IX Office, and Chaplain’s Office;

3. The Wake Forest University Student Government instructs the President to create a
Culture of Respect Coalition to work on implementing a climate survey during the 2019
spring semester as well as the coming years;

4. The Wake Forest University Student Government encourages the University


administration to support and pursue the creation of the Culture of Respect survey in the
foreseeable future.
