SUPERLATIVES

We use superlatives to compare three or more things.

1. For one syllable-adjectives or short words we use
-est usually with the.

old older the oldest
fast faster the fastest
young younger the youngest
nice nicer the nicest
Two syllable adjectives ending in Y, remove the y and add iest in the superlative form.
easy easier the easiest
heavy heavier the heaviest
happy happier the happiest
One syllable adjectives ending in a consonant+ vowel+consonant,double the last consonant
and add est
hot hotter the hottest
fat fatter the fattest
Big bigger the biggest
IRREGULAR SUPERLATIVES
There are some adjectives which have an irregular superlative form

Far farther the farthest

EXAMPLES:

2. For two or more syllable adjectives, we add the most in the superlative
form
