Students are reminded that the School has a zero tolerance approach to the use or

possession of illegal drugs.

Leaving aside the health issues, being in possession of these drugs is a criminal
offence, and the School must and will protect its reputation. It will not allow a small
minority of students bring the School into disrepute or put at risk a facility that is
enjoyed by many, ie the basement bar. I am sure no-one wants to see the bar lose its
licence.

If you have a drug problem and need help you can approach the Student Affairs team
in confidence. They will help you address not only your drug use directly but also the
reasons why you might be choosing to use illegal drugs. Student Affairs can also offer
advice and support to students who are worried about their friends or colleagues.

However, if you are found in possession of illegal drugs on School premises or in the
vicinity of School premises that brings the School into disrepute there will be a zero
tolerance approach.

Facility, basement bar and security staff have been advised that in the event of a
suspicion of any illegal activity, drugs or otherwise, they should call the police.

In addition to any action taken by the police, if you are accused of being in possession
of illegal drugs it will be investigated under the School’s Student Code of Conduct and
Disciplinary Procedure. If you are involved in any way in the distribution of illegal
drugs (even if just to your friends) you may find yourself expelled.

If you are even thought to be under the influence of drugs, under Health & Safety
legislation, you may be prevented from engaging in your studies; no student is
allowed to work with machinery or work at height if under the influence of drink or
drugs.

Even a police caution could blight your future professional life, limiting your access to
work in other countries. Please think very carefully about the choices you make now
and the bearing they may have on your time at the School and on your future career.
