REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

RELATED LITERATURE

According to How Products are made (n.d.) Fragrance compounds have

been used since antiquity to freshen air and mask odors. Over the last 2,000

years a variety of compounds, including numerous spices and floral extracts,

have been used for their ability to impart a pleasant aroma. However, it was not

until 1948 where the first modern air freshener was introduced. This product,

using technology developed by the military to distribute insecticides, was a

pressurized spray containing about 1% perfume, 24% alcohol or other solvents,

and 75% chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellant. This was able to deliver a fine

mist of fragrance that remained suspended in the air for a long period of time. In

the early 1950s, many companies began to add odor-counter-actant chemicals to

their formulas. These were chemicals that were intended to actually destroy or

neutralize offensive smell, as opposed to simply masking them with fragrance.

Compounds used for this purpose included various unsaturated esters, longchain

aldehydes and a few pre-polymers.

RELATED STUDIES

On the studyCalamansi (CitrofortunellaMicrocarpa) Fruit Extract as

Perfume of Angoluan (n.d.) states that scent has a  lot t o do with how

people react towards people. Having that scent makes the person more

comfortable with. The problem is in this perfume they may have nice and

soothing scent but they can really have a bad effect in our environment and even

to our selves because of the chemical used in making it. The researchers thought

of a way in which they can produce a soothing and great scent without harming

the surrounding and community. The researcher will test if the fruit extract of

calamansi can be a better distributor rather than other essential oil

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

METHODOLOGY

To determine the Acceptability of Citrofortunellamicrocarpa(Calamansi)

peel as air freshener and produce affordable product.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study is descriptive since it is made to know and prove the

Acceptability of Citrofortunellamicrocarpa(Calamansi) extract through certain

procedures.

Descriptive method, according o J.W. Best, involves the discretion

regarding, analysis and interpretation that exist. It includes some type of

comparison and contrast and attempt to discover relationship between existing

non-manipulative variables.

Furthermore, descriptive method was used in this study since it aimed to

determine through experiments the acceptability of calamansi as air freshener.

The study used descriptive method to describe the quality of air freshener

in terms of fragrance, duration and cost effectiveness.

The researcher made a questionnaire checklist to get the data of the study.

SETTING OF THE STUDY

The researchers conducted of the study at San Ildefonso College in the

selected students of Senior High School located at the town of Tanay, Province
of Rizal. It has five departments the Preschool, Grade School, High School,
Senior High School, and College.

SUBJECT OF THE STUDY

In this experimental study, 10 employees of San Ildefonso College were
selected to participate in the process. The researchers used probability sampling
on selecting their respondents and quantitative data. The researchers chose
them as their subject in this study as they evaluated the results using statistical
analysis and look for greater meaning in the data.

The subjects in the survey were given instructions regarding the

completion of the survey. The students were informed that their responses to the
survey would be confidential if they want to and their names would remain
anonymous.

Sources of Data

The main instrument used by the researchers is a questionnaire checklist.

It aims to determine the right decision of Employees.

Procedure of the Study

To determine the Acceptability of CitrofurtunellaMicrocarpa (Calamansi)

as an air freshener, the researchers performed the following:

The researcher composed a three research proposal which were checked

by the research adviser during the title defense to expand and develop the focus
of the research.

After the study was accepted the researchers built the first two chapters of
the research. The chapter one is all about the Problem and Background of the
study which introduction is needed about the topic through examining data or
information in reliable website and questions aimed to be answered.

Then, the questionnaire was inspected and improved by the research

adviser. The researchers also took the population of the Employees of San
Ildefonso College and applied convenience sampling for the questionnaire
distribution for each.

Subsequently, the chapter three was established by the researchers. It is

composed of the essential information of the researchers approaches all the way
out. It is simply the research methodology of the study.

The collections of data were tallied, classified, tabulated, checked,

analyzed of statistical treatment to formulate the chapter four of the research.

The data collection was examined by the research adviser for final
revision. Lastly, the researcher made a summary of findings, conduction and

recommendation that conveyed the Acceptability of CitrofurtunellaMicrocarpa

(Calamansi) as an Air Freshener.
