Inpatient Care For COVID-19 infection (1)
Before Arrival
• If a patient is arriving via transport by emergency medical services (EMS), the driver
should contact the receiving emergency department (ED) or healthcare facility
and follow previously agreed upon local or regional transport protocols. This will
allow the healthcare facility to prepare for receipt of the patient.
Inpatient Care For COVID-19 infection (2)
Upon Arrival
• ensure all persons with symptoms of suspected COVID-19 adhere to respiratory hygiene
and cough etiquette, hand hygiene, and triage procedures throughout the duration of the
visit.
• ensure that patients with symptoms of suspected COVID-19 are not allowed to wait
among other patients seeking care.
• ensure rapid triage and isolation of patients with symptoms of suspected COVID-19
• provide supplies for respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, including 60%-95%
alcohol-based hand sanitizer (ABHS), tissues, no touch receptacles for disposal, and
facemasks at healthcare facility entrances, waiting rooms, patient check-ins, etc.
Caring Patients suspected or confirmed COVID-19 (1)
• Patients with mild respiratory illness are likely to need care in the home.
• HCW should wear a mask and perform appropriate hand hygiene, when
providing care
