Detailed Lesson Plan In Mathematics

Learning Competency: solve routine and non-routine problems involving percentage

using appropriate strategies and tools.

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

1. Define what is percentage.
2. Answer the given problem in finding the percentage.
3. Shows their solution in finding the percentage by group.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Finding the percentage
B. References: 21st Century MATHletes textbook 5
C. Instructional Materials: Video clip, 4 manila paper, 4 marker
D. Teaching Methods/Strategies: discussion, collaborative and inquiry
based
E. Concept: percentage at a constant rate is directly proportional with
base. In symbols: P=RxB where P is percentage, R is the rate and B is
the base. Note that before applying the formula rate must be converted
into decimal form first.
F. Values Integration: Show cooperation and participation during
discussion and activities.

III. Procedure

Teachers Activity Pupils Activity

A. Routinary Activities

1. Opening prayer
Please stand up and let us (students will stand and pray)
pray.

Good morning class! Good morning teacher, good

morning classmates!
2. Checking of attendance
(according to sitting
arrangement)

B. Preparatory Activities
1. Review
Class can you still remember Yes teacher our lesson yesterday is
our lesson yesterday? all about direct proportion.

Very good!

What is direct proportion? Teacher direct proportion is a

relationship between two quantities,
whenever one quantity increases (or
decreases)the other quantity
Very good! increases (or decreases) too.

2. Motivation
I have here a video clip and I
want you to listen carefully Yes teacher!
because after the video
presentation I will ask you
some questions.
Understand?

(the teacher will present the

video)

Now what do you see in the Teacher the kid wants to buy a
video? shoes.

That’s correct, who else? Teacher the shoes that the kid
wants to buy is sale and has 40%
off discount.
Very good!

C. Presentation of the lesson

Do you have any idea what will Yes teacher! Our lesson is all about
be our lesson? percentage.

Very good our lesson for today

is all about percentage.

D. Lesson Proper
A while ago I present to you a
video clip because I want you to (the students will raise their hands)
know what percentage is.
Now, what do you think is Percentage is a number or rate that
percentage or do you have any is expressed in a certain number of
idea what percentage is? parts of something divided into 100
parts.

Yes Ernesto?

Very good! so when we say

percentage it is a number or
rate that is expressed in a
certain number of parts of
something that is divided into
100 parts.

Now, do you have any idea how None teacher!

to get the percentage or do you
have any idea what is the
formula in finding the
percentage?

Okay so the formula in finding

the percentage is P=RxB where
P is the percentage, R is the
rate and B is the base

I have here an example

(the teacher will post a problem
in front)

Children how are we going to Teacher, with the use of the given
find the percentage of this? formula

Very good!

30% is the rate

120 is the base
And the percentage is unknown

Children always remember to

change rate first into decimal
before we apply the formula. So
we will divide the rate to 100. Do Yes teacher!
you understand?

So using the formula

P=RxB
=0.3 x 120
P=36

Therefore 30% of 120 is 36 so

the percentage is 36

Another example
(the teacher will post a problem
in front)

75% is the rate

40 is the base
And the percentage is unknown

P=RxB
=0.75 x 40
P=30

Hence, 75% of 40 is 30 so the

percentage is 30

Do you understand? Yes teacher!

What if it is in a word problem?

For example

In a certain barangay, there are

1200 election volunteers. Due to
the tedious task given to some
of them 30% of them were not
able to vote. How many of the
volunteers were not able to
vote?

Now, what is asked? How many of the volunteers were

not able to vote.

How about what are the given 30% of the 1200 volunteers were
facts? not able to vote.

Very good!

So we will find the 30% of 1200

to get the percentage of
volunteers who were not able to
vote

30% is the rate

1200 is the base
And n is the percentage
As what I’ve said earlier always
remember to change the rate
first before we apply the formula

So who can solve this in front? (students will raise their hand)

Yes frank? P=RxB

=0.3 x 1200
P=3600

Is Frank answer correct? Yes teacher!

Very good! His answer is

correct.

E. Generalization
Class do you understand our Yes teacher!
lesson?

If you really understand our Percentage is a number or rate that

lesson, what is percentage? is expressed as a certain number of
parts of something divided into 100
parts

What is the formula in finding P=RxB

the percentage?

Very good class, you really are

listening.

F. Application
I will divide you into four groups.
Each group will answer the
given problem that I am going to
give and choose a leader to
present the solution

Group 1
85% of 750

Group 2
In Mrs. Bondoc’s class, she was
sad because 75% of her pupils
failed the exam out of her 40
students. How many students
failed the exam?

Group 3
40% of 120

Group 4
Christmas season is coming and
Jane is so excited to do her
shopping. In her list is a pair of
shoes that she will wear for their
Christmas party. What made her
more excited was when she saw
that her dream pair of shoes is
on sale. From 4,295 pesos it is
now sold with 20% discount.
How much will Jane save if she
buys the shoes?

IV. Evaluation
A. Identify the base, rate and the percentage. Then find the value of the
unknown.

Given Base Rate Percentage n

1) 13% of 113 is n
2) n is 25% of 225
3) n is 40% of 65
4) 35% of 196 is n
5) 28% of 400 is n

B. Answer the following word problem. Use the formula P=RxB

1) Tyson scored 90% on a 20 point test. How many point did he get?
2) I am saving my money for a 750 pesos video game. If I have saved
25% of the money I need, how much money do I saved?

V. Assignment
An ice cream machine is being sold by a couple since they wanted to venture
into another business. They were trying to sell it for 10% off of the marked
price but no one wanted to buy it. Then they tried to dell for 20% of the first
sale price still no one bought the machine. Finally, they offered it 25% off the
second sale price when someone bought it for 32,400 pesos. What was the
original price of the ice cream machine?
