2.) STREAM PARTICULARS:

Lowest Bed Level of Stream = +171.724

Catchment Area of Stream = 1.98 Sq.Km

Using RYVE's Formula for calculation of Max. Flood Discharge

Max. Flood Discharge (Q max) = C x M⅔

Where
C = 8.45

Therefore
Qmax = 8.45 x (1.98)⅔

= 13.324 m³/sec

3.) VENT WAY FOR STREAM:

Stream Discharge = 13.324 m³/sec

Allowable Velocity in the Pipes = 2.00 m/sec

Area required discharge(A) = 13.324 /2

= 6.66 m²

Provide NP3 Class RCC Pipes of 1.20 mm dia. Pipes

Area of Pipes (Aф) = ∏/4 x (1.2)²

= 1.130 m²

N. of Pipes required = 6.66 / 1.13

= 5.890
or say
6.000

Total Length of Under Tunnel =

= (2x2(174.324 - 171.724))(2x1.5(0.39+0.3)+1.1+2.7+2.7)

= 18.97 m say 20.00

Length of Each RCC Pipes = 2.50 m

There fore Provide only = 8 Pipes

Total Length of Pipes = 2.5 x 8

= 20.00 m

4.) PIPE DETAILS:

Dia of the Pipe = 1.20 m

Class of the pipe = NP3 Class

Thickness of pipe = 0.10 m

Length of Collar = 0.20 m

Thickness of collar = 0.05 m

Caulking space = 0.0016 m

PIPE LAYING DETAILS:

C.B.L = +173.634

Lining Thickness (Assumed) = 0.10 m

Earth cushion over pipes = 0.40 m Assumed

Pipe Top Level = 173.634 - 0.1 - 0.4

= +173.134
Pipe Bottom Level = Top Level - Pipe Thickness - Pipe Dia

= 173.134 - 0.1 - 1.2 - 0.1

= +171.734

5.) DESIGN OF APPROACH AND TAIL CHANNELS:

As per I.S 7784(Part I) 1993 Clause no.8.1.2, P No. 4

Lacis Bed Width = 4.80 x (Q)½

= 4.80 x (13.324)½

= 17.52 m

60 % of Lacis Width = 0.60 x 17.52

= 10.51 m

Say = 10.50 m

Value of 'n' = 0.030

Bed Fall = 1 in 500

Assume Depth of Water (D) = 1.00 m

Bed width of channel (B) = 10.50 m

Width of Transition on U/S&D/S = (6x1.2) + 2 x (0.1) + 7x(0.30)

= 9.50 m

Say = 9.50 m

Side Slopes of Channels (S) = 1.5 : 1

Area of Channel (A) = (B + nD)D

= (10.5 + 1.5 x 1) x 1

= 12.00 m²

Wetted Perimeter (P) = B+2xD (S2+1)1/2

= 10.5 + (2 x 1)x(1.5²+1)½

= 14.11 m

Hydraulic Mean Radius (R ) = A/P

= 12 / 14.11
= 0.85

R⅔ = (0.85)⅔

= 0.90 m

S½ = (1/500)½

= 0.040

Calculating the Velocity using 'Manning's Formula

= 1/n x R⅔ x S½

= (1/0.03) x 0.9 x 0.04

= 1.20 m/sec

Discharge (Q) = AxV

= (12 x 1.2)

= 14.40 m³/sec
>
13.324 m³/sec
Hence OK

6.) DESIGN OF HEAD WALLS:

Head walls in C.C M15 using 40 MSA well graded

Top Width of Wall = 0.45 m

Foundation in VCC M10 using 40 MSA = 0.45 m

Foundation off set = 0.30 m

7.) SCOUR DEPTH CALCULATIONS:

U/S & D/S SIDE:

Discharge(in Cumecs), Q = 13.324 m3/sec

Bed Width(in metres), b = 10.50 m

Silt Factor, f = 1.500

U/S MFL = 172.731 m

Discharge/metre width(q=Q/b) = 1.270 m3/sec/m

Normal scour depth (R ) = 1.35x(q²/f)⅓

= 1.35 x (1.27²/1.5)⅓
= 1.380 m

Max scour depth = 1.50 x R

= 1.50 x 1.38

= 2.07 m

Max scour level = = U/S MFL - Max.Scour depth

= 172.731 - 2.07

= 170.661 m

How ever foundation of HEAD

walls are taken up to = 170.661 m

Cut off level is taken as = 170.661 - 0.45 - 0.45

= 169.761 m
