Introduction:
The upcoming elections are going to be one of the ercest
battles in GSIS’s history. 9 ESD candidates running against each
other, hoping to become the next Head Student. This candidate
pool is full of talented people, but only one victor will emerge, and I
believe, that this should be me.
GSIS is a great school and a great student community. It is
inspiring to see people working hard every day to keep this
institution up and running, and, as a team, Karryanne and I truly
believe that we can contribute more to this, as to better the school
environment and “put the cool in school”.
Our campaign will revolve around ve main points- improving
on the current mental health system, making slight (yes, slight)
changes regarding the lunch line, more fun events as well as
transparency, congestion and better communication from the school
to students. By voting for us, you are not just voting to put
competent and willing leaders in charge to represent the mandate in
which you have placed in us, but also for GSIS as a whole.

Mental Health
“Mental Health begins with you”
One of our main duties as your Head and Deputy Head
Student would be to make sure that the student body’s mental
health is doing well. We understand that the current Coronavirus
pandemic may be taking a toll on it, however, fear not, for we are
here to help. One of our plans would be to introduce anonymous
counselling, as we hope to encourage those who are too shy or
perhaps don’t want their identity revealed due to concerns to speak
out and get support if they are feeling down. We also understand
that some of you may vibe better with people in your age group,
thus why we have decided to get fellow students to help with this
counselling program if implemented.
As someone who joined GSIS only in Year 9, I empathise with
those who have recently joined and are nding it hard to adapt to
this new community. Thus, we are also planning to introduce
mentorship programs for new or younger students as a way to help
them adapt and relieve stress, as we understand that some may
struggle with the syllabus and the fast pace of learning here as well as
adapting to this new environment.
Lunch Line
“Mission Impossible”
For every year we have been in GSIS, the lunch line has been
mentioned at least once in every Head Student election, and for
good reason. While the original system was not the best, people we
have asked have expressed confusion at the new system, and we
believe that it would be better to reimplement the old system, with
the cashier in the middle. To optimise e ciency, we are proposing to
add a second Octopus reader to alleviate the congestion coming
from two di erent lines. We cannot promise that we will completely
x the system, yet having a normal, functioning system is better than
having one that is confusing.
Another thing we noticed with the Cafeteria is that often,
meals are sold out, but people don’t know until they reach the front
of the line. To avoid situations like these, we are proposing an
indication on the display boards when certain meals are sold out, so
that people no longer have to go through the pain of lining up, only
to nd that the meal they wanted is no longer available.
Events
“What even is school without fun events and house competitions”
We know that school can be tough, and that once in a while
people just need to let o some steam. Thus, we came up with the
idea of hosting more fun and interesting events to make school more
fun. Some of our ideas include Senior Dodgeball, Teacher v Student
sports, Spirit Week for all (out ts have to be dress code appropriate,
of course) and many more other events. I mean, who wouldn’t want
to face o with their teachers in an epic sports battle am I right.
Congestion
“First World Problems”
It has come to our attention that congestion is rife in this
school. Almost every day, people have to go through the pain of
pushing their way into the 3rd oor corridor from the staircase, all
because of one door always being unused. Hence, we will keep
BOTH doors open at all times to ease congestion, and also possibly
put markers on the ground, just like in MTR stations to keep foot
tra c going smoothly and orderly.
Communication
“A lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of
insecurity”
We feel that sharing our progress on getting policies enacted is
extremely important. Previously, there hasn’t been much
transparency, and students haven’t really been informed of what
happens in discussions between senior management and students.
Thus, we will post our half of communications between us and sta ,
try to get permission to publish their half too, and if possible, even
put out audio recordings of meetings or notes taken on the head
student social media or through weekly/ monthly email updates.
However, we will make a few exceptions, such as when we discuss
sensitive issues regarding a certain student or group of students, or if
consent is not granted.
