Learning Objective(s) Instructional Decisions / Reasoning

Students will complete the Authentic Writing Assessment. Lewiston High School has quarterly
Common Assessments. For Quarter
Three, students have to create a piece
of Authentic Writing.

Content Standard(s) Instructional Decisions / Reasoning

Students are able to write in a manner

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.4 that is appropriate for the assignment,
but also is for an audience other than
the teacher.
Assessment - Uses assessment flexibly to expand and deepen understanding of learner performance
and determines best supports for continued learner growth.
Assessment Instructional Decisions / Reasoning

Summative: Written book reviews. Students needed to complete the

Quarter Three Common Assessment. I
felt that having them write a genuine
book review based off the books they
were to finish was a great form of
authentic writing.
Instructional Materials and Resources - Stays current in content knowledge and expands expertise in
reviewing instructional materials from the perspectives of both the discipline and individual learner
needs.

● Chromebooks ● Students can access this

● Book Review Blurb Worksheet assignment on Google
● Printed out copies Classroom.
● Books ● This worksheet allows for
students to work through and
organize their thoughts before
setting off on the task. This is
to ensure that all criteria is met
in their writing piece.
● The printed out copies are just
in case someone forgot their
laptop.
● The books are still available if
students need to look back on
them to refresh their memory
about events.

● Have students complete the End of Book Club this survey for the literacy
Survey (15 minutes) coach as well as for my TWS.
● Students will spend the class completing the book ● I gave the students the rest of
review scaffolding worksheet. (60 minutes) the period to work on this
assessment, so that it was only
completed in class. I also
wanted to be able to support
them in making sure all the
criteria was met before they
turned it in.

Meeting students’ needs (differentiation, extensions, Instructional Decisions / Reasoning

modifications, accommodations)

● Scaffolded worksheet ● This allows for students who

● Printed out copies have a hard time organizing
● Practice with group members their thoughts to have a place
to start and do not feel
overwhelmed.
● The printed out copies allow
for all students to complete the
assignment even if their
chromebook is left at home.
● The previous class students
began to think about reviewing
their book with their group
members. This was intended to
get them thinking about what
they wanted to focus on while
reviewing the book.

Reflection

I felt that this lesson was successful. Students were able to complete this assessment
within the class time. I was there for support. They did pretty well with working on
their own since it is technically an assessment. They were able to look back on their
notes to see the things that they had felt were important throughout the book. I
think if I were to change something about this lesson, it would have to do with the
scaffolding worksheet. I’d have to reflect on how I can make it more helpful, but I
feel it could use some improvement.

Teaching Standards and Rationale

Standard 6(e): Engages learners in multiple ways of demonstrating knowledge and

skill as part of the assessment process.
Rationale: Students were able to create a piece of writing that they were able to use
their voice in. They did not have to worry about citations or formatting. It was all
their own thoughts regarding the book.

Standard 9(g): Understands and knows how to use a variety of self-assessment and
problem-solving strategies to analyze and reflect on her practice and plan for
adaptations/adjustions.
Rationale: Within the End of Book Club survey, I asked the students what I could
have done differently with the book clubs. I received lots of helpful feedback to help
me continue to grow.
