TASK 2: CRITICAL REFLECTION

I need to complete my course work by doing critical reflection about the topic
that I have choose, which is bullying is not an answer for showing strength against the
weak. Based on my readings on this topic, I noticed that bullying is an emotionally
draining issues prominent across the world today. It also considered a crime as it has
long-term effect on those involved and those who are bullied.

There are many information regarding bully in the newspaper lately. In the New
Straits Time’s article (2017), Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye stressed that social media makes
it easier for youth to get involved in bad behaviour such as physical bullying and
cyberbullying. I totally agree that bullies can make use of the advanced technology to
prey on their victims. The technology are getting advanced where handphones are
gradually becoming our daily necessities. People tend to go online and chat with
peers to find out what is new and get to know each other better but it become worse
when bullies come in. The technology will turn out to be quite advantage to them
because the Internet is open to anyone. They will take advantages such as post
comments on someone blog, send email and even talk to someone by saying they
are fat, stupid or anything that hurt the other.

According to Journal of Adolescent Health (2013), there is a strong association

between involvement in bullying and suicide-related behaviours. The victims may
suffer from emotional setbacks thinking that they are really like what the bullies said.
This will cause depression which will lead to committing suicide. In my point of view,
there have been countless report on student committing suicide because they were
bullied. The reason why several victims may decide to commit suicide is because they
think that it is the best way to end their suffering. Bullying can be a tremendously
painful experiences for some people especially to young person. It can lead to suicide
because the victims’ see that there are no way out of this torment. Besides, lack
parental supervisions also effect the victims’ emotion. They feel neglected by their
parents and nobody care about what is happening to them.
 I love to read magazines. Most of the magazines that I had read such as
Reader’s Digest tell that bullies may attempt to shift blame to the victim rather than
themselves. According to Jay Clark, a licensed professional counsellor in La Crosse,
Wisconsin, he said that a behaviours that tends to correlate with bullying is when the
bullies fails to recognize their actions may be contributing to a problem toward the
victim. I strongly agree with his opinion. This is because some of the bullies do not
understand how damaging their behaviours are and how the person that had been
bullied feel. The person who had been victimized will go through the hardest time of
his life, but not to the bully. Even worse, the bully also sees that it is a way to be
popular, to make other people afraid of them or making themselves look tough. They
will also take the moment to do permanent damage to the victim.

To summarize my reading, bullying is not an answer for showing strength

against the weak. This is because bullying is a really serious problem in homes,
schools and among communities. So, bullying needs to end once and for all because
it is an unacceptable action that is morally draining. Bringing down someone also has
no beneficial purpose. It even make the bullies looks pathetic because they need to
do violence in order to get something they want. Thus, I think that bullying is getting
more and more common among the society and community. Therefore, it is up to us
to help those are victimized by taking a serious action on those who are bullied.
