Las principales palabras clave empleadas fueron: “seeds”, “seed structure”, y
“seed plants”. Todas las búsquedas se realizaron en el idioma inglés y la mayoría
de los resultados obtenidos son artículos académicos y libros publicados en
Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido; además se utilizó un intervalo de tiempo
indefinido y se encontraron referencias que van desde el año 1942 hasta el año
2017.
Debido a que el tema de investigación es un tema amplio en la rama de la
botánica, para el estado del arte solo se utilizaron las referencias que trataran
aspectos generales de las semillas, como su estructura, desarrollo, germinación y
dispersión. A partir de los resultados, es posible concluir que el interés por este
tópico comenzó desde hace varias décadas y que, mediante el desarrollo de
exhaustivas investigaciones fue posible esclarecer la importancia de estas
estructuras, tanto en el ciclo reproductivo de la planta, como en la dieta de los
animales que las utilizan como fuente primaria de alimento, incluyendo al ser
humano. Finalmente, quiero resaltar que las búsquedas obtenidas en la última
década se enfocan en análisis evolutivos a partir de técnicas moleculares, que
buscan identificar hace cuántos millones de años se originó la primera planta con
semillas y cómo ha sido su proceso de evolución y diversificación a lo largo del
tiempo.
