Bringing Vibration and Resonance from the Floor to Standing

Keep vibrations and resonance going in your body, sending gentle sound to closed lips, while remaining
on your back on the mat or floor.

While doing this, pick a side to roll onto, and bring that arm up next to your ear on the floor. Keep the
sound going as you draw your legs up, let your knees drop to the side you want to roll onto, and bring
your other arm across the body. Roll onto you side or belly, continuing to make sound.

Make easy sound to closed lips in this new position until it feels easy and full. You can begin to play with
open and closed lips, mouth shapes, and pitch. Give your body some time to register the sensations of
vibration in this position.

Come into child’s pose. You may lose the sound as you move to this position, but once you are there,
return to making easy sound to closed lips. In child’s pose, have your knees widely separated. When you
inhale, let your belly fall into the space between your legs, and when you make sound, draw your belly
up towards your spine/the ceiling. Spend some time playing with open and closed lips, mouth shapes,
and pitch.

Tuck your toes and press yourself back into the crouch. Let your spine round and let your head fall
towards/between your knees. You can let the resonance work subside for a moment, but continue to
breathe deeply into your back in this position, and have released breathy sighs accompany the
exhalation.

Drop your heels and float your pelvis. Begin nodding your head, and begin playing with vibration again
on the sounds “mm-hmm.” Play with pitch and the placement of the vibration. You may feel that the
sensation “falls” into your head.

Begin rolling up. Stop nodding your head, but keep the “mm-hmm” sound going as you roll all the way
up to your feet and find alignment.

Once you are standing, begin playing with pitch to place the sound into your upper chest/sternum. Place
your hands there. Slide the pitch up and down until you find the pitch that buzzes your sternum most
easily. Have your lips lightly touching, but your teeth separated, so that you can feel a large space inside
your mouth. Then imagine that the sound needs a similar open space inside your body, and that that
space is getting larger behind your sternum. The color associated with this spot is green. Green light, a
stoplight, a green plant… anything green. Imagine the sound is getting greener, or the greener it gets the
more the sound becomes fuller, richer, easier, brighter, more fluid, velvetier, rounder, smoother, larger,
deeper, higher… or any other “er” ‘s that come to mind.

Imagine the mouth inside your chest open onto “AH” as you open your real mouth onto the same
sound.

Close your lips around the sound, and bring your hands to your ribcage and repeat the above, but for
the sound “AW,” the color yellow, and the feeling in your ribcage and solar plexus.

Close your lips around the sound, and bring your hands to your pelvis and/or sacrum and repeat the
above, but for the sound “OH,” the color orange, and the feeling in your pelvis/lower belly.
Close your lips around the sound, and bring your hands to your tailbone/pubic bone/sits bones and
repeat the above, but for the sound “OO,” the color red, and the feeling in your pelvic floor.

Repeat this whole sequence, starting from standing with “AH.” But this time, when you have closed lips
and are humming to sound, take some time to feel what is happening in your ribs as you breathe in, and
your belly as you make sound. Can you intentionally activate those movements for preparing to make
sound (breathing in) and resonating (breathing out)? Can you find the feeling that you get in your breath
and voice when you are engaged with breath support? Then open onto the vowel. Repeat this, going
down the chain to “OO”.

Spread your feet and punch the air so your butt shakes. Drop sound into your body. Let it fall into your
pelvic floor and shake out an “OO” sound. Keep shaking, but bring the sound and pitch up to your pelvis
and lower abdomen on “OH.” Stop shaking, reach one arm up in the air and bend it sideways over your
head. With the other arm, thump your ribcage, and let the pitch and resonance come into that part of
your body as you open onto the sound “AW.” Do the other side. Use your fists to rapidly thump your
upper chest. Bring the pitch and resonance up to that part of your body and open onto the sound “AH.”

Repeat this going back down.

Repeat the image and color focused sequence. Keep it connected to breath.

Repeat all of this as many times as you want or need to.
