CHAPTER 5

Summary of Findings

The study entitled, “Effectiveness on the Use of Fish Emulsion as Fertilizer for
Planting Pechay”, aims to test the effectiveness of fish emulsion as organic fertilizer. In
order to test this, the study incorporated a control group and three treatments namely 3
tablespoon fish emulsion, 5 tablespoon fish emulsion, and hydroponics treatment. All of
which are applied in three pots per treatment. Each pot was watered daily for three
weeks where fish emulsion treatments were only applied twice a week, Tuesday and
Thursday. After three weeks, the plants were measured. It incorporated the
measurement of several parameters such as plant height, length, width, and number of
leaves, petiole length and diameter in order to statistically quantify whether or not these
measurement have significant difference across the various treatments. To statistically
quantify whether the findings are significant, the study made use of ANOVA treatment.
Using this treatment the study found out that among these parameters, only the width
and number of leaves were considered insignificant differences. Thus, it can be
concluded that when applying fish emulsion on pechay, different measurements of the
treatment will yield different results. On closer observation, the hydroponics treatment
yielded the highest measurement in all of the parameters whether significant or not
while the water only treatment yielded extremely lower measurements as this is the
control group. Given this observation, we can easily conclude that fish emulsion indeed
worked as an organic fertilizer in pechay seeds within the span of three weeks. Another
observation is that the 3 tablespoon treatment yielded slightly better results than the 5
tablespoon treatment in all of the parameters measured. Therefore, we can conclude
that the 3 tablespoon treatment is the second best treatment among the treatments
used in the study in terms of plant growth. Aside from the given parameters, the study
also made physical observations on the plants namely the leaf and petiole color wherein
all of the plants were found to be healthy. The study also found that while the
hydroponics treatment yielded the most result, it is also the most prone to disease such
as Yellows, downy mildew, verticillum wilt, and cauliflower mosaic with a total
percentage of 53.33%. The three tablespoon treatment had the least percentage to
disease reaction with a total of 26.67%. Only17 out of 45 plants exhibited disease which
is 37.78%. Another test was conducted to find out if environmental reactions affect the
plants. The result showed that only 2 out of 45 plants exhibited this. Both came from the
hydroponics which is likely triggered because of its direct exposure to sunlight. This
proves that the health of Pechay plants is only intermediate and not susceptible in terms
of disease and environmental reactions.

Conclusion

Based on the findings that have been stated the researchers therefore concluded that:

A. Fish emulsion is an effective organic fertilizer on pechay because it was able to

yield extremely better results than the water only treatment, particularly, the
hydroponics treatment.
B. There is a significant difference between the use of fish emulsion and water
treatment because all 45 plants treated with fish emulsion had better plant growth
than the water only treatment.
C. The Pechay plants treated with fish emulsion exhibited resistance to
environmental and disease reactions.

Recommendations

A. The researchers recommend the use of fish emulsion in pechay as it yielded

extremely better result than the control group across all parameters.
B. The researchers recommend the methodology used in the study as it takes into
account multiple measurements that can help in comparing and contrasting
multiple treatments.
C. The researchers recommend the testing of plant disease reaction in order to
provide more compelling data statistically about the amount of healthy plant/crop
produced rather than general measurements (height, length, diameter, etc.)
because larger plant size doesn’t necessarily equate to its healthiness or disease
resistance.
D. The researchers recommend testing for environmental reactions when dealing
with agricultural researches because this determines if the plants suffer from any
environmental factors.
