 10.1 DEFINITION OF THE PROPHETIC
METHODOLOGY

 Definition: the summing up of all the teachings

and methodologies of all previous prophets. It is
the corrections, remedies, expansion, revisions, of
all previous teachings and completed the final
teaching of Islam for all universal mankind as
revealed and guided by Allah (33:21).

 Concept of Prophet (s):

 Human Being:
 Appointed by Allah to preach.
 Bestowed with miracles and revealed Books.
 Prophet Muhammad was the final known as
the Seal of the Prophets.

 Some features of Prophets (pbuh):

 All of the Prophets are Patient.
 Their actions are guided by revelation

 The importance of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings is
that:

 the burden of da’wah is extremely heavy (73: 5).

 He is the last prophets: (33:40).
 God has chosen Islam as our religion and perfected
one. (5:3).
 The best methodology because Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh)’s methodology was the accumulations of
guidance of all previous prophets – goodness and
weakness of the past were revealed to him, so that he
can take lesson from it –.

 Why to follow the Prophet Muhammad’s
methodology in Da’wah?

i. He should be obeyed as ordered by Allah

(3:32), (4:64)

ii. He is the most authoritative and the

legislator of al-Qur’an
(16: 44).

 10.2 GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF
THE PROPHETIC METHODOLOGY

i. Role Model:
 In Terms of Unity: the Prophet did as what
he said. (61: 2 - 3).
 Highest moral and wholesome personality.
(3: 159), (9: 128), (68: 2- 4).

ii. Soft and full of love in his calling
 many stories about that eg: during his migration to
Ta’if , fath makkah.
 He too was informed on the conduct of Prophet
Musa and Haron (20: 43-44) – command from Allah
to both of them to invite Pharaoh by using a polite
way instead of harsh treatment .
iii. No compromise in terms of belief (Tawhid)
 surah al-Kafirun (109: 1-6).
 compromise can be made on other aspects but not
with Iman (faith). hujjatul wada’, story of
committing adultery.

iv. No compromise in observing the Shari’ah
 he himself carried out the responsibility faithfully
 Hadith: (Bukhari) ‫ﻟﻮ أن ﻓﺎطﻤﺔ ﺑﻨﺖ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺳﺮﻗﺖ ﻟﻘﻄﻌﺖ ﯾﺪھﺎ‬
 In Sahih al-Bukhari, it was reported that the Quraish had
been anxious about the Makhzumi woman who had committed
theft, and said: Who will speak to Allah's Messenger (may
peace be upon him) about her? They said: Who dare it, but
Usamah, the loved one of Allah's Messenger (may peace be
upon him)? So Usamah spoke to him. Thereupon Allah's
Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Do you intercede
regarding one of the penalties prescribed by Allah? He then
stood up and addressed (people) saying: O people, those who
have gone before you were destroyed, because if anyone of
high rank committed theft among them, they spared him; and
if anyone of low rank committed theft, they inflicted the
prescribed penalty upon him. By Allah, if Fatimah bint
Muhammad, were to steal, I would have her hand cut off.

v. Always thinking of the easiest solutions for the Ummah

 eg: reduced the number of daily prayer from 50 to 5

 eg: Prophet forbids his followers to fast in the whole

year continuously

 eg: Prophet also get married as other human beings

 The rejection of those needs of human beings is surely

against the teachings of the Prophet

 Da’ie should always think of the easiest way in terms of

delivering the message as well as the contents of the
message – to avoid the mad’u feel uncomfortable with
teachings of Islam

vi. Consistent throughout his da’wah mission

 nobody can change his mission by any means

 The offers made to him by the Qurish such as

money, women and position have been rejected

 Hadith : ‫وﷲ ﻟﻮ وﺿﻌﻮا اﻟﺸﻤﺲ ﻓﻲ ﯾﻤﯿﻨﻲ واﻟﻘﻤﺮ ﻓﻲ ﯾﺴﺎري‬

‫ﻋﻠﻰ أن أﺗﺮك ھﺬا اﻷﻣﺮ ﺣﺘﻰ ﯾﻈﮭﺮه ﷲ أو أھﻠﻚ دوﻧﮫ ﻣﺎﺗﺮﻛﺘﮫ‬
“I swear in the name of Allah, even you give me the
sun and put it on my right hand and the moon on my
left hand and asking me to abandon this mission,
surely I will not leave it until I accomplish them or
being killed”
