History

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, Madhya

Pradesh, India (formerly Maulana Azad College of Technology,
MACT), is one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges
in India. The institute has been named after the great scholar,
educationist and the first Education Minister of the Republic of
India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The Govt. of India and Govt. of
Madhya Pradesh jointly sponsored the then MACT (a Regional
Building
Engineering College) in 1960 to attract bright young students
from across the country. The Institute is successfully meeting the
objective of producing skilled engineers of the highest quality who are able to cope up with
challenges of ever evolving industrial needs of the country.

The Institute is situated in the Bhopal Central region of Bhopal City on southern side. The verdant
650-acre (2.6 km2) campus is on a plateau with academic building, hostels and residential quarters.

How to reach
Air : Bhopal is well connected with daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad,
Bangalore, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Gwalior, Nagpur, Pune and Indore. MANIT is 11 km from
the airport.
Rail : Bhopal is best connected by train on the central and southern railways. It is well connected with
trains from all over major cities of India (the list of trains passing through Bhopal can be seen here) .
The Bhopal Habibganj railway station is 5 km & Bhopal Central railway station is 9 km away from
MANIT.
It is well connected by road as well.

Infrastructure
MANIT is situated in the Bhopal Central on southern side. Its campus is spread over 650 acres (2.6
km2), on a beautiful plateau. It houses about 4,000 students and faculty members.

Student life
MANIT has students from all parts of the country. Student life revolves around the college campus and
hostels. College has Hostel facilities with round the clock net connectivity, electricity, water, security,
canteen and other facilities for students.For boys there are separate hostels for students who are in
different academic years.For girls there is only one hostel considering the relatively small number of
girls at MANIT. Hostels are available for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students. All the
hostels have a Care Taker, an Assistant Warden and a Warden separately. A Chief Warden is
appointed who is heads the functioning of all hostels and usually this post is held by one of the senior
Professors of the college.

The institute also attracts international students from many countries such as Oman, Kuwait, South
Africa, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mauritius, Malaysia, Iran and United Arab Emirates for
various undergraduate and post-graduate programs.

The college has active student life with various student organizations that include Drishtant

Concerns
In May 2010, in a big cleanup MHRD Minister Kapil Sibbal approved cancellation of appointment of
more than 60 teachers including Training and Placement Officer and asked for fresh recruitments.
Sources said many teachers did not even meet the criterion of basic academic qualification while

The year 2007-08 saw an unprecedented 662 job offers being made to MANITians from 64
companies. The year also saw a marked increase in the number of core jobs to an extent that the
core fields seem promising. Many students had 2 offers and some even had 3 or more jobs. The
