Celebrations kicked off at 12.00 pm where the 'Medieval Village'
played host to an abundance of performers, guests and festival
goers all of whom came out in support of the event. The renowned

encampment visitors were mesmerised by the archery display and
huddled around the roasting 'lamb on the spit' to observe the won-
derful styles of medieval cookery.
This year the 'Kids Kingdom' played host to some of the best activ-
ities seen at the festival to date. The 'Mumbo Jumbo Circus
Workshop' was a flurry of excitement and activity as kids of all
ages learned how to stilt walk or ride a unicycle. The bouncy cas-
tle area was a major attraction as children braved the obstacle
course over and over again.
This year the 'Kids Kingdom' saw the re-introduction of tradition-
al arts & crafts fun. Speaking on behalf of the organising commit-
tee Catherine Desmond said: "Parents were delighted with the con-

cept of 'back to basics' fun. Children were able to get involved and
create their own Medieval Hats and Shields which they could then
wear and bring home as a souvenir. Each year the committee tries
to incorporate a good balance of fun, education and heritage into
the festival and I think it's fair to
say that we achieved just that.
Not only did we organise a

Senior Football. Our senior footballers tamely exited the champi-

very impressive looking Ballinacourty side. To be fair, our lads
did not play poorly and definitely played their best football of the
season during parts of this game and when we look at the final
score it's hard to believe that we were right in it and dominating
possession at 1-10 to 0-10 with just a quarter of an hour to go.
However, the ease with which Ballinacourty scored thereafter,
despite a brilliant penalty save by Brian Keane was telling. Alan
North was far and away our best player on the day.

'Team Youghal' have also got tremendous support from hotels on

along with the Quality Hotel in Killarney have all come on board

The race route through Cork is incredible, entering the County in

When you even think about even just driving the Cork route, it
would be fair to say that the distance is a long enough drive in a
car, so it puts into perspective the challenge this journey in Cork
brings to the team on a bicycle and when you add in the rest of the
coastal areas on the Island of Ireland it gives you a small idea of
what is involved in this staggering endurance test.

4th Anniversary 12th Anniversary
September 3rd. In loving memory of our dear brother
Nicholas O’Donnell
In loving memory of Baby Nicholas
Josephy (Joe) Ring
Our hearts are full of memories Joe,
They say there is a reason , they say that time will heal We think of you every day,
But neither time nor reason, will change the way we feel Of all the good times we had growing up,
For no one knows the heartache, that lies behind our smiles
We know you’re not far away
No one knows how many times, we have broken down and cried
We want to tell you something, so there won’t be any doubt Standing beside us and laughing
Nicholas you’re so wonderful to think of You will always be with us Joe.
But so hard to be without.
Always with us and missed by your sisters Sharon,
Love always Mummy, Daddy, Ruby & Holly Michelle, Kevin, Billy and nephews David & Jack
We often sit and think of you and think of how you died,
To think you could not say goodbye before you closed your eyes.
The blow was hard, the shock severe, to part with one we loved so dear.
I miss you when I need a friend, always on you I could depend. We love and miss you
I speak your name with tears unseen, wishing your absence was a dream
I miss you from the house, I miss you from the chair.
And it’s worse on the special occasions, when I know you won’t be there with us
every day of our lives Mam.
No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye,
You were gone before I knew and only God knows why.
Your loving family Tim, Mike, Rob, Mag, Pat &

The evening before an event of this size is always a nervous time

Thomas told Youghal News "You could see people walking
around the night before the event, I suppose thinking about what
was ahead and preparing themselves for it, but at 5am on the 27th
we were up and ready to go and we arrived at the start on the beach
along with 2,798 other Iron Man France competitors".
The start of the race at 6.30 was a sight to behold and already the
temperature was in the 20's. The first challenge was the 3.8
Kilometre swim.
"The swimming course was like a figure of eight, with the com-
petitors coming out of the water after 2.5k, running through a sec-
tion of the crowd for 20 meters or so and then back into the water
to complete the swim and then into the transition area to get on our
bikes" said Conor.
Thomas said "The organisation to look after 2,800 competitors

with everyone's cycling gear and bikes ready. Conor and I met up
together in the transition area after the swim and cycled together

He looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face,
Forget you Mam, I never will, He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest,
God’s garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
For in my heart, I love you still, God knew you were in pain and a cure was not to be,
