TO THE FINAL EXAMS!

DAY 166
Issue 5

Dear Y11s, 18 weeks to go! It is now time to get serious about exam preparation. Revision should not
take place just before the exams, everyone's ability to remember information decreases rapidly over
time scientific studies have proven that regular revision dramatically slows down how quickly you forget
information.
To help you revise this week your early Christmas present is a memory stick filled with revision work
that your teachers have produced for you. At the moment they contain Maths, History, Geography,
D&T, Music, MfL and ICT. Throughout the year you will be asked to bring them back into school so that
you can download more helpful revision activities from other subjects.
During the holidays you need to be revising for your final exams by looking through your books review-
ing what you have learnt this term. If you are behind with coursework use the holiday to get back on
track. Below are tips for revision:
Ten things that can help to keep your revision time productive
1. Reduce your reading notes to brief notes and key words on index cards.
2. Vary the material that you revise: from the difficult to the more familiar.
3. Read your essays to get yourself into the right frame of mind.
4. Study alone for some of the time, but also in a group occasionally if this suits you.
5. Make yourself take regular breaks, and be strict about returning to the revision.
6. Give yourself treats to keep you going.
7. Mark off your achievements on your revision timetable as you progress.
8. Plan answers from past exam papers to assess how well you are doing.
9. Find a quiet area of the house to revise so that you do not get distracted.
10. Vary your style of revising as you go along to keep yourself motivated.
SAM Learning Quote of the Week
