Traditional Duck Origami

Use any kind of paper to fold the origami duck.

IT can be easier if the front and the back sides of the


paper are slightly different (texture or colour).

Make sure the paper is a square (all sides are equal


and all the angles equal 90 degrees).

Typical origami paper is 15cm x 15cm square.

Step 1

Start with the paper’s back side facing up.

Prepare to apply a diagonal valley-fold and then unfold.

Step 2

Apply the diagonal valley-fold from Step 1 and then unfold.

Prepare to apply two valley-folds to make a “kite base”.

Step 3

Apply two valley-folds from Step 2. This base is called a


“kite base”.

Prepare to apply another two valley-folds.

Step 4

Apply two valley-folds from Step 3.

Prepare to rotate the origami duck model by 45 degrees in


the counter-clockwise direction.
Step 5

Rotate the origami duck model by 45 degrees in the


counter-clockwise direction.

Prepare to turn the origami duck model over.

Step 6

Turn the origami duck model over.

Prepare to apply a horizontal valley-fold.

Step 7

Apply the horizontal valley-fold from Step 6.

Prepare to apply an “outside reverse-fold”.

Step 8

Apply the “outside reverse-fold” from Step 7.

Prepare to apply another “outside reverse-fold” .

Step 9

Apply the “outside reverse-fold” from Step 8.

Prepare to apply an “inside reverse-fold”.


Step 10
Apply the “inside reverse-fold” from Step 9.

Prepare to rotate the origami duck model by 90 degrees.

Step 11

Rotate the origami duck model by 90 degrees.

Prepare to expand the body by inserting a finger into a


pocket on each side.

Step 12

Expand the body by inserting a finger into a pocket on


each side.

Prepare to drop the origami duck model.

Step 13

Drop the origami duck model.
