General comments:

Well done George, you have consistently shown exceptional levels of ability throughout the
Cape Mistake process. From the outset, you have been prepared, well organised and
committed to delivering an engaging and challenging performance workshop, constantly
contributing ideas and giving generous amounts of energy in rehearsals. Your positive
attitude and determination was paramount in pushing through creative blocks at the
beginning of the process and you always ensured our rehearsal times were efficient and
productive. As a pair, we balance each other out well, you have more of a pragmatic
approach than myself and were always thinking about the practicality of the ideas we were
suggesting. This was something I initially struggled with, as I found your responses to my
ideas quite blunt and discouraging, however, through communication we quickly overcame
this and gained a deeper understanding and trust in how each other work. This is something
that has been prevalent throughout the process and will serve us well as we continue to
work together in the future. Whilst you have undoubtedly prioritised Cape Mistake, your
commitment to outside projects meant that I took more of a lead (outside of the studio) in
preparing us for the tour, with costume, map design and school visits. This being said, your
dedication to the project has been admirable.

Teaching alongside you has been a pleasure and it has been great to learn from each other,
as teachers, performers and humans, in the process. As a confident teacher, you always
deliver clear and concise instructions to the class, articulating yourself with ease. Your
friendly, energetic and animated nature meant the children connected with you quickly, and
were consequently enthusiastic and excited throughout the class, which is essential to our
company ethos. You have been progressively more mindful and assertive in placing the
responsibility of learning on the pupils, drawing out conversation about their discoveries and
experiences. In doing this, you have challenged them intellectually and instilled an
independent thinking mindset which will serve them well universally, and is reflective of an
outstanding professional practice. I think you could now start to be more selective in which
aspects of feedback you delve deeper into, or think about how you address comments from
those intentionally misbehaving/challenging your teaching/the session.

The performance workshop was well structured and consisted of appropriate content that
was both stimulating and challenging. Your initial suggestion to make it an interactive
performance workshop was arguably the best decision we made, and appeared successful
in every school we visited, as we were commended by many teachers and students. Whilst
maintaining energy was initially an issue, through practice, we managed to find the right
balance in exerting and conserving energy. We always supported each other and found
ways to share the responsibility whilst teaching, which was enhanced by our excellent
communication before and after every run. Feedback has been a fundamental component to
our growth as teachers in our company, and taking the extra time to reflect paid off. You
could be more sensitive to how you give feedback when you’re tired/not feeling great, as
sometimes your comments aren’t conducted in a constructive way, which on occasion has
caused me some emotional strain, and this is an area for development.

Overall it has been a pleasure to collaboratively work with you and witness you grow as a
teacher. This experience has not only been pivotal in my own teaching practice as I continue
to learn from you (and hopefully vice versa), but for us as a company, and has been a great
taste of what Yoodaloo could be in the next few years to come.
