government, and their blind, unadulterated greed. These
have led America to the brink of the disaster we now face
today. We have begged and cajoled our readers to acquire
and retain large positions in gold and silver – which have
risen many-fold over the past 16 years – as insurance
against the upheaval we now face.
It has been sad to see the great majority of
Americans continue to follow the Wall Street/Fed/
government Pied Pipers over the cliff, like so many
lemmings – and that includes many of our own friends
and relatives (yours and mine) and even some MIA
subscribers who ignored our warnings. A combination
of apathy, complacency, ignorance, denial, believing (or
being manipulated by) the wrong people, or simply being
locked into an immoveable comfort zone (i.e., inertia) has
kept most Americans from making any preparations
whatsoever for the approaching upheaval.
It would seem that not even a series of 9/11s,
Katrinas, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes,
wildfires, tsunamis, or other physical disasters will cause
most Americans – who believe “it can’t happen to me” –
to prepare for hard times. There are four stages of denial
that the great majority find themselves in, which keep
them from making any meaningful preparations for
disaster: 1) it won’t happen; 2) if it does happen, it won’t
happen to me; 3) if it does happen to me, it won’t be that
bad; and 4) if it happens to me and it’s bad, there’s
nothing I can do to stop it anyway. Polls conducted by
FEMA and the American Red Cross have found that
these stages of denial describe the great majority of
Americans.
THE REALITY – We experienced in early 2011 the
greatest number of killer tornadoes in US history – more
than twice the number in the same period in 2010; some
of the worst flooding in US history; and more natural
upheavals than at any time in modern history. FEMA has
said that over three quarters of the American people are at
risk from some natural disaster in their lifetime (i.e.,
hurricane, tornado, wind storm, wildfire, earthquake,
flooding, tsunami, volcanic eruption, prolonged power
failure) – not to mention the dangers of an
electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, cyber attacks,
widespread social unrest, rioting, or a state of national
emergency during a period of political, financial, or
terrorist-inspired turmoil – wherein food, water, power,
heating, and other services are suspended for days, weeks,
or longer. Any of these disasters – including economic
collapse or hyperinflation – would likely throw American
cities, social stability, food deliveries, medical services,
municipal services, or police protection into convulsions.

Think New Orleans after Katrina; Joplin, Missouri;
the area around Mount St. Helens when it exploded in the
1980s; or Northern Japan in the aftermath of the recent
earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear meltdown. If a major
earthquake (now widely predicted) hits the west coast of
the US or the Midwest near the New Madrid fault line,
millions of Americans would be impacted – how many of
them are prepared in any way? Very, few!
A friend of this writer had a sister in Northern
Alabama who recently received a panicky phone call
from a friend saying that there was a tornado heading
right for her home. She went straight to her storm
cellar (thankfully she had one), and when she emerged
30 minutes later, her entire home with everything in it
and all of her neighbors’ homes were completely gone.
A tragic and sobering event, but if she had not been
prepared with a storm shelter, she would have certainly
perished. (As an interesting side note, every house in
Switzerland is required by law to have a well stocked
bomb shelter in their basement. How do you spell P-R-E-
P-A-R-E-D-N-E-S-S?)
Shortly after Katrina devastated New Orleans,
televangelist Pat Robertson suggested that perhaps the
Katrina disaster was a warning from an angry God – and
was severely attacked for making such a “hateful”
suggestion. But the Bible does warn that when a people
does the things that have become commonplace in
America in our day (i.e., rampant homosexuality; gay
“marriage”; open homosexuality in the US military – now
endorsed from the highest level of the US government;
expanded baby killing/abortion rights; almost universal
promiscuity – now down to the middle and grade school
levels; and most recently the US president officially
endorsing a policy for the destruction of Israel), an angry
God will send severe and painful warnings of His
displeasure.
This writer wonders if there is a connection between
the unprecedented physical/natural disasters sweeping
across America and the affronts to the God of the Bible
listed in the paragraph above. But of course to even
wonder or speak of such a possibility is not only
politically incorrect, but borders on hate thought/speech/
or crime. So, I will try to erase the thought from my mind.
(But I still wonder!)
Over the years, MIA has warned and warned about the
coming financial crisis (now here!) and urged a defensive
strategy to get out of harm’s way, survive, and even
prosper in hard times. Many of you have followed our
counsel and done quite well – which is very gratifying to
this writer. But now we feel that it’s quite important

and timely to focus more on physical/personal
preparedness – to be better equipped for physical
disasters such as we are currently seeing; for a bone
crushing depression or hyperinflation; for huge US and
global food shortages; for a medical crisis as the US
medical system completely implodes under the weight of
the new socialized medicine regime (i.e., dictatorship);
and for living under a protracted state of emergency (i.e.,
martial law) wherein virtually all Constitutional liberties
are suspended and you may not have access to the
Internet, cell phones, or traditional means of
communication.
If you are well prepared for such contingencies,
you will come through this difficult period in good
shape – and will be a part of the process of rebuilding
on the other side of the crisis. If not, well…?
A. THE ESSENTIALS OF BEING
PREPARED FOR CRISIS
There are hundreds of things you can do to be
prepared for the difficult times that lie ahead – so many
that you could become overwhelmed and give up before
even starting. So, at the outset, we will try to focus on the
top priorities (the most essential things) and get into more
details later. Priorities for survival preparedness should
include:
1. DEVELOPING A MINDSET OF SURVIVAL
(OF NEVER GIVING UP) – Later in this report, we will
discuss 38 principles of survival preparedness. These
principles will help you re-orient your thinking from the
norm you have been used to in times of non-crisis to how
you will need to think and mentally process in times of
protracted crisis or stress.
2. ACHIEVING GREATER FOOD SELF-SUFFI-
CIENCY – With massive US and global food shortages
looming on the horizon, it is essential that you have a
food storage program that can take you through an acute
crisis period when the grocery store shelves may be
empty for a period of days, weeks, or months. (i.e., buy
an extra $25-$50 in long-shelf-life food every time you
go grocery shopping, or buy 50-pound bags of rice and
red beans – which will feed your family for a long
time. This writer and his family lived primarily off of
red beans and rice for 18 months in the 1970s during a
very slow time in business.)
But, also start a longer term food growing or
acquisition program that can sustain you for years. This
can involve gardening, a green house, growing rabbits in
your backyard, or, if in the country, hunting, trapping, or

fishing for meat. (This writer has recently been very
impressed with how easy it will be for people in Alaska to
hunt, trap, or fish for almost unlimited supplies of food in
time of crisis.) PART II of this article will explore food
self-sufficiency in greater detail.
3. A RELIABLE, ADEQUATE SOURCE OF
CLEAN WATER – If you live in the country and have,
clean, filterable, abundant sources of water – great! But
most Americans don’t! In a time of crisis, as budget
constraints cut municipal services, municipal water
supplies could become easily contaminated with 1001
different strains of bacteria, virus, or other toxins – and
become undrinkable. We see this continually throughout
Asia as contaminated drinking water (which is the norm)
makes huge numbers of people very sick, or kills them –
especially babies.
A good, portable water filtration system is essential in
a time of crisis – it is the only way my wife and I survive
out in the Third World. The best portable, low-tech (that
means it does not break easily) water filtration system in
the world, in this writer’s strong opinion and after using it
for 11 years in very poor and backward areas, is the
British Berkefeld water filtration system which comes in
various sizes, has no moving parts except the spigot, and
has been laboratory proven to filter out all bacteria and
most viruses.
This writer’s son used the “Big Berkey”® as the only
source of clean water in a hospital in Western Sumatra for
four days after the great Indonesian tsunami in December
2004 killed hundreds of thousands of Indonesians in
modern history’s greatest-ever disaster. Hundreds of lives
were saved by that six-gallon water filter – which was

24-hour day out of the most filthy water imaginable.

4. MEDICAL SELF-SUFFICIENCY – Reliance on
the mainline medical establishment, which is completely
regulated by the government and in turn reliant on the big
pharmaceutical companies (who are completely in bed
with the FDA, the CDC, the World Health Organization,
and the globalist establishment), has been progressively
less advisable even in normal times. But under the new
socialized medicine regime and in the midst of the
emerging economic, financial, and political crises in
America, such reliance is going to be a very bad idea
indeed.

It is essential that Americans who wish to survive
the times that lie ahead become more medically self-
sufficient – learning about diet and nutrition; herbal
medicine; homeopathics; acupuncture; essential oils; the
proper use of vitamins and supplements; intravenous
vitamin C, chelation therapy, Meyers Cocktails, etc; colon
hydrotherapy; oxygen therapies (i.e., hydrogen peroxide,
ozone, hyperbaric oxygen, etc.); bio-magnetic therapies;
and many other modalities that are opposed and
denigrated by the mainline medical establishment –
and could soon be outlawed – as the European
socialists have done in Europe via Codex Alimentarius.
There is a wealth of books and online information
available on these topics, as well as alternate practitioners
in America and other countries. It is essential that
Americans who wish to remain healthy during the trying
and stressful times that lie ahead learn to take
responsibility for their own health – because the already
limping US medical system is about to hit the wall!
Supplies of essential prescriptions, supplements,
vitamins, first aid supplies, and other items should be
acquired now – they may well become unavailable in a
national crisis!
In the tumultuous times that lie ahead in America,
it is essential that we keep our immune systems as
strong as possible. Such difficult times cause high
stress, and stress tends to weaken the immune system.
We all need to be taking a daily regimen of vitamins
and supplements and have an adequate supply of same
on hand.
TWO PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS:
This writer and his wife travel almost nine months out of
the year in poor Third World countries where malaria,
dengue fever, and a thousand other diseases are prevalent.
We travel under very tiring and stressful circumstances,
where exhaustion and stress are more the norm than the
exception – and where our immune systems are
continually compromised or challenged. Those
circumstances may be roughly comparable to the stressful
times most Americans are about to face – and may be
even more stressful. Yet we very seldom get sick because
of a group of supplements and herbal products we
regularly use on trips that definitely challenge our
immune systems to the extreme.
This writer was in the supplement business for seven
years, and also edited an alternate medicine newsletter.
We got to look at and test hundreds of supplement/
vitamin/mineral products – and most were useless and not
much better than taking sugar pills. Some actually did
damage to the immune system, in part because most were

made from synthetic, not natural, sources. Over the past
15 years, my wife and I discovered two groups of
health supplement products that we have used every
day and take with us on all of our trips to Asia. They
have kept our immune systems strong and have helped us
with many other health/medical problems we have
encountered – often in places where there are no doctors
or traditional drugs/meds/antibiotics (which in many
cases don’t work anyway).
The first is a group of vitamin/mineral supplements
that are based on real food (not synthetics) and protect
your cells against the harmful effects of toxins,
environmental stress, poor diet, daily physical stress, and
oxidative stress. These supplements come in Optimal

have been literal life savers for us and for a portion of our
450 Third World orphans who have been taking them (the
great majority of whom have stopped getting sick since
they started taking them over a year ago). Unlike so many

The second group of products my wife and I use
every day for everything from A to Z (stomach problems,
skin problems, respiratory problems, headaches, earaches,
injured muscles, infections, digestive problems, sleep
problems, and in dozens of other situations) are essential
oils (highly concentrated forms of herbs from Young
Living Essential Oils). These essential oils work many
times faster than regular herbs. There are a couple
hundred of these oils – we probably know how to use
about 50 of them – and we have seen some incredible
turnarounds in health problems in our family over the past
15 years. We use them continually in remote areas of
India and Asia – especially with our orphans.
My wife and I always carry 15-20 different oils in
our suitcases whenever we travel anywhere in the

world, and usually find ourselves using one or more of
them every day. In villages where there are no doctors,
where we see some unbelievable (and heartbreaking)
health crises, we have seen some remarkable turnarounds
using these oils. (We could almost write a book on the
miraculous things we and our son – who used them for 10
years in Bali – have seen.) We would never leave home
without them.
At a minimum, 10-15 oils (the bottles are very small
and portable) should be in every grab-and-go bag, or 72-
hour emergency kit. Every home should have at least
25-50 different oils and a handbook on how to use them.
These oils are among the most useful preparedness
items you can have in the tumultuous times ahead – at
least if you and your family wish to be more medically

As with the British Berkefeld water filters, these two
recommendations are among the very strongest we can
make for people who are serious about preparedness or
alternate health approaches.
5 . D E V E L O P A C O M M U N I C AT I O N S
STRATEGY – In a time of national crisis, the modes of
communication we rely on almost completely today may
be totally shut down – for a period of time, at least. This
means such things as the Internet (i.e., email, Facebook,
etc.), cell phones, faxes, and even shortwave radio. It will
be essential to find ways to communicate with your loved
ones or close friends at that time – and privately.
It should be remembered that all Internet
communications worldwide (including your emails,
Google searches, Facebook and Twitter communiqués –
indeed, anything you do online) are monitored and
electronically recorded by the US government and are
stored for future use in the government’s super
computers, in the event that you should become “a
person of interest” (i.e., that would include many
conservative, pro-Constitution, pro-life, or Christian
right activists). So are all cell phone conversations.
Your cell phone (especially if you have a
Blackberry, iPhone, or many of the newer high-tech
“smart” phones) is also a tracking device that lets the
government know your exact location anywhere in the
world at any time – even if your phone is turned off. Also,
the newer phones can actually be turned into remotely
operated microphones, which can allow government
eavesdropping and recording of all conversations

within earshot of your phone. This can be done even
when your phone is turned off. These features can be
neutralized only if the battery is taken out of the phone.

regarding communications self-sufficiency and
privacy.)
6. CASH AND SMALL-DENOMINATION GOLD
(AND SILVER) COINS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE
FOR ESSENTIAL SPENDING TILL THE CRISIS
PASSES – Several months worth of expenses in cash
(i.e., three to four months, if possible) should be on hand
in your home, since banks would probably be closed in a
state of emergency (or martial law) that is declared due to
a sudden crisis; ATMs would not be working; credit and
debit cards would not be accepted (nor would checks);
and only cash would be accepted. If the crisis was due to
a hyperinflation, cash might not be acceptable, or would
buy little to nothing in food, fuel, goods, or services – but
junk silver coins, silver dollars, tenth-ounce American
Eagle or Maple Leaf coins would be highly acceptable or
spendable in that circumstance.
[ED. NOTE: It is important that only your closest
friends or family members (preferably those who share
your worldview and concerns over the potential coming
crisis) know anything about your preparations. In a crisis,
unprepared people (even family members) can turn very
unfriendly and decide to help themselves to your
preparations, or simply talk too freely about your
preparations. Government officials can accuse you of
“hoarding,” which could become a crime under martial
law. Be very private with your preparations!]
7. YOU MUST HAVE FIREARMS FOR
PROTECTION OF YOUR FAMILY – In a major crisis,
crime and social unrest will skyrocket – especially in the
major cities. At that point, police protection will be highly
inadequate, minimal, or non-existent, and protection of
your home, family, and possessions may be completely up
to you. Your burglar alarm or home security system may
not be operational (i.e., put yourself in the place of the
people in New Orleans after Katrina. At that point, crime
exploded and the police and Army were busy disarming
the honest law abiding citizens – there was virtually no
protection and very little law and order).
A good barking dog (or two) is an excellent early
warning system, but there is no substitute for having a
few firearms in the house, and the knowledge and skill to
use them. [ED. NOTE: The following is primarily for
those who are beginners and who do not presently own
firearms.] First, and probably most important, is a 12
gauge pump shotgun – the most feared nemesis of all

burglars and criminals; and double-ought (00) buckshot
shotgun shells (250 to 500 shells).
For a rifle, it is hard to beat a .22 caliber, semi-
automatic – you can buy 500 cartridge boxes (“bricks”) –
preferably high velocity hollow points for the greatest
stopping power – at Walmart, Costco, Target, or any
sporting goods store. (There are many excellent rifles,
including an AR-15, but the small size of .22 ammo, its
low cost, the easy storability of three, four, or five 500-
round boxes make the .22 rifle the choice of many
knowledgeable people. The .22 caliber cartridges also
make excellent barter items.)
For a handgun, the choice is infinite, and most
knowledgeable gun owners have their favorites. The
caliber should be at least .357 magnum or .45 ACP –
although 9mm hollow points are adequate. A Smith and
Wesson .357 caliber revolver, a Colt Commander – 1911
Model or Glock 21 (both .45 ACP caliber) are just two of
many great choices. Five hundred to a thousand rounds of
ammunition would be a minimal inventory – keeping in
mind that you need some for practice. [ED. NOTE: If
you are a beginner, get some training in the use and safety
of firearms.]
In a state of emergency, martial law, or some future
government gun confiscation, the government might try
to seize all firearms in the hands of citizens. Besides
being un-Constitutional, it would be a bit difficult since
the American civilian public owns 350 to 400 million
firearms – and the great majority would be quite reluctant
to give up their arms.
8. OBTAIN TRAVEL DOCUMENTS FOR EACH
MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY – It is difficult to know
what the future may bring, but if you should wish to go
abroad for a limited or extended period of time to avoid
the chaos during a national crisis, you would need to
already possess an up-to-date passport. It will be difficult
and probably impossible to obtain one during a state of
national emergency or martial law – and of course you
cannot move from country to country without one. For all
these reasons, be sure to get passports for each of
your family members NOW!
9. SPIRITUAL PREPAREDNESS AND SELF-
SUFFICIENCY – For peace of mind, for wisdom,
strength, for guidance in difficult circumstances, a close
daily walk or relationship with the God of the Bible and
His Son, Jesus Christ is perhaps your greatest area of
preparedness. This will not necessarily come from your
church or pastor, since most pastors in America today, like
their counterparts in Germany in the 1930s, are almost

completely clueless regarding the realities of our day.
This will come from a close personal relationship with the
Lord and seeking His direction for all aspects of your life,
times, and survival. As Isaiah 58:11 says: “The Lord will
guide you continually and satisfy your soul in drought….”
B. THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SELF-
SUFFICIENCY OR SELF-RELIANT
LIVING
The great majority of Americans have developed over
the past few decades (particularly since World War II) a
number of distinct failings or weaknesses: a) An acute
desire for security (the exact opposite of risk taking, the
entrepreneurial spirit, or rugged individualism); b) an
inability to think or discern; c) an unwillingness to deal
with or accept bad news that moves them out of their
comfort zone; d) a softness or, conversely, a lack of
toughness.
People who are very security conscious become
overly dependent on their job, their retirement, the
infrastructure around them, and on the government.
These people tend to be the least prepared in a crisis and
will be the first to panic and beg the government “to
do something” to stop the pain when a crisis
eventuates (like many of the unprepared people of Los
Angeles, who begged the government to intervene with
martial law during the Los Angeles riots in 1992).
City dwellers and employees of large corporations
tend to be much more security conscious and less
adaptable than their country brethren or more
entrepreneurial types.
Americans have by-and-large lost the ability to
think deeply, to discern that which is not obvious, to
see through subtle deception, to understand trends,
patterns, and consequences, and to anticipate future
developments based on these. More than five decades
of television, of socialist dumbing down of the
education system, and of a lack of reading (especially
of books of any depth or substance) has taken a
drastic toll on the average American’s ability to think.
Non-thinking, non-discerning people who have
forgotten their history will not understand the
deteriorating political and financial situation in this
country, nor will they prepare for it by moving toward
self-sufficiency or self-reliant living. Nor will they in any
way oppose the deterioration or decline.
Most Americans, after almost 70 years of
uninterrupted prosperity since the end of World War II,
have become apathetic, complacent, and soft. Americans

are the “Pollyanna people” – tell them good news or tell
them nothing at all. Americans by-and-large hate bad
news and they hate the person who brings it (although
they have been saturated with a massive amount of bad
news since 9/11/01). “Pollyanna people” will never
prepare for difficult times or for self-sufficiency
because they are perpetual optimists who believe “life
will always come up smelling like roses” – that the
return to “good times” lies “just around the corner.”
Americans have lost the toughness they had during
the frontier days, the Industrial Revolution, World Wars I
and II, and the Great Depression. In many ways, America
has become a nation of soft, effeminate wimps –
dependent on the infrastructure, their jobs, their
retirement, and upon the government for their
security and sustenance – instead of upon God and
their own resourcefulness and ingenuity.
Such a people will panic when a severe financial,
political, climatological, seismological, or military crisis
arises unexpectedly – as we have begun to see over the
past 6-12 months.
Such a people will beg for the government to take
charge and stop their pain. Such a people are almost totally
unprepared for the coming crises in America, and such a
people make up the great majority of Americans today.
This special report is not written for such people. It is
written to and for the tiny remnant of thinking,
discerning realists, who still have a spirit of toughness,
self-reliance, and rugged individualism – a spirit of
patriotism, a deep and abiding trust in the God of the
Bible, and the attitude articulated by Winston
Churchill during England’s darkest days in World
War II – “never, never, never give up.”
Self-sufficiency, self-reliant living, and the will to
survive are first and foremost a matter of how you
think. At one time, as was true of Romans during the
early Republic, these characteristics were reflected in the
attitudes of the great majority of Americans. Today,
however, as in the latter days of Rome, they are the mental
attitude of only a small minority, or remnant, of Americans.
C. CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK:
DEVELOP A MINDSET OF SELF-
SUFFICIENCY (OR SURVIVAL)
As our entire way of life continues to change
radically over the next few years, and our prosperity
further evaporates, we need to develop a mental attitude
of self-sufficiency, and change our entire mental attitude

or mindset about life, circumstances, and ourselves. We
must first understand the times in which we live (and
their attendant problems – MIA attempts to shed some
light on same each month) and develop a level of
discomfort with these times, with where we are, and our
present level of preparedness. People in a comfort zone
will not move toward self-sufficiency – neither will
procrastinators.
General Principles to Consider:
1. Change the way you look at everything. Rethink
your entire lifestyle. Get out of the box.
2. Develop discernment about people.
3. When you invest, invest first in the right people.
4. Honestly look at yourself, your strengths, and your
weaknesses.
5. Seek the council of others you trust.
6. Find like-minded people who can be part of a
mutual support group and who you can cooperate
with.
7. Find alternate methods for doing everything
(create backups, Plan B, Plan C, etc.).
8. Develop an instinct for what doesn’t feel right.
No matter how good something looks or sounds on the
surface, go with your gut feeling, with your instinct, with
your intuition.
9. Eliminate non-essentials from your life.
Eliminate all time wasters, money wasters, and things
you don’t need – i.e., clothes, furniture, junk, etc.
Eliminate television from your life. Teach your children
how to manage (and not waste) their time. It is the most
valuable asset any of us have.
10. Simplify your lifestyle – learn to say “no” to
things or activities that do not make you self-sufficient.
Learn to please God and yourself, not other people.
11. Develop physical, mental and spiritual
disciplines.
12. Learn to treat everything as if it were
irreplaceable.
13. Buy things that will last, even if they cost more.
14. Acquire tools that do not depend upon electric
power.
15. Learn to spend time alone with yourself in total
silence – think, reflect, reminisce, plan (or strategize)
in silence.

16. Learn to spend time alone with yourself and your
family, apart from superficial entertainment and
distractions.
17. Learn something from every situation you are
in – everything you hear, see, touch, or feel has a
lesson in it. Learn a principle from every mistake you
make, from everyday life situations.
18. Make sure your trust is in the Lord and not
your own preparedness. Pattern your preparedness
according to the guidance of the Lord and the principles
of God’s Word. Listen to what the Lord puts in your heart
– don’t use only your reasoning power.
19. Learn to enjoy simple pleasures from the
smallest things – have a measure of joy and happiness
that doesn’t come from creature comforts or
entertainment.
20. Store up memories for times of isolation or
separation from your loved ones.
21. Establish priorities for all of life (i.e.,
relationships, needs – present needs, future needs). Set
goals for areas you’ll be proficient or self-sufficient in.
Set a schedule or timeline based on money and time you
can invest in self-sufficiency.
22. Examine the concept of civil disobedience
(from the Bible and history). At what point should the
people of Egypt have said “no” to killing the male babies
in Moses’ day? At what point should the people of
colonial America have said “no” to King George? At
what point should the people of Germany have said
“no” to Hitler? At what point do we say “no” to
despots in our day – when they take our money, our
property, our privacy, our guns, our children, our
freedom?
Decide what your chokepoint is – when do you
move to civil disobedience. (For many throughout history,
it was when evil leaders handed down edicts that were
directly contrary to God’s Word or commands.) Corrie ten
Boom and her family (in Nazi-occupied Holland in the
1930s), decided to disobey the law of the land, and
instead of turning in their Jewish neighbors, to hide them.
Don’t set your chokepoint too early or too quickly, nor
too late, nor never. Think through or calculate a
strategy – then never look back.

few years ago – “What is worth dying for today? Is there
anything in life today that we hold so dear that we would
be willing to die for it?” In many ways, this is the
ultimate question. Think about it!]

23. Learn to ask the right questions in every
situation, whether they are about the present war against
terrorism; pronouncements from the Fed or Wall Street;
the investment counsel from bubblevision or the mainline
media; or rhetoric from Washington politicians. (In “The
Question Book,” by Bobb Biehl, 90 experts, in their areas
of expertise, teach you the 20 risk-reducing questions they
would teach their own sons or daughters to ask before
they would make an important decision. Available at
amazon.com.)
24. Bring orderliness into your life. If you live in
disorder, it will pull you down, it will break your focus.
Think focus versus distraction. Eliminate the
distractions from your life.
25. Self-sufficiency (or survival) principles are
learned on a day-to-day basis and must be practical, and
practiced.
26. Always have more than one way to escape,
more than one way to do something. Have a plan B
and a plan C.
27. Everyday life (and especially crises) requires
backup systems if the first line of defense, or up-front
system, fails.
28. Real education (or learning) takes place only
when change occurs in your attitude, actions, and way of
life.
29. Wisdom is making practical applications of
what you know. It is not enough to know everything you
need to know. It will serve you and others only if practical
application is made of that knowledge.
30. Fix in your own mind the truth about your
capabilities. In a crisis situation, this principle will keep
you from cockiness (or overconfidence) and will provide
you with confidence.
31. Decide before a crisis arrives how you will
react in a given situation so that you are not swayed by
the circumstances, the situation, or your emotions. Then
practice your response until it becomes second nature.
32. Beware of being spread too thin in your life.
Decide on the few things in life that you must do and do
them well. Think focus versus distraction. Make sure
that unimportant, non-essential distractions don’t keep
you from achieving your important objectives.
33. Learn to quit wasting things. Be a good steward of
all that God provides.
34. Buy an extra one of everything you use regularly
and set the extra one aside for the time when such items

may be difficult or impossible to obtain. (Need one? Buy
two.)
35. In every situation, train yourself to look for
what doesn’t fit, for what’s out of place, for what doesn’t
look right.
36. Teach your children (and yourself) that they are
not obligated to give information to a stranger. You don’t
have to answer questions (not even to a government
official) that are none of their business.
37. Sell or give away things you do not use or need.
Consider giving away or selling 50% of your
“stuff,” (i.e., the non-essentials). Simplify and
streamline your life, lifestyle, and possessions.
38. Find someone who lived through the Great
Depression (or books by such people) and learn from
them how they were self-sufficient, how they made do
with little, and how they found joy and contentment in the
midst of hard times. An excellent book on this subject is

Their Own Words What It Was Like When Banks Closed
and Hearts Opened, available from amazon.com.

D. ADVERSE CONDITIONS TEACH
IMPROVISATION
One of the most important aspects of self-sufficiency
is developing the mental attitude of improvising (i.e.,
using unconventional methods and tools when the
normal tools or material comforts or conveniences are
not available). A few years ago, this writer encountered
an excellent book entitled: Timely and Profitable Help for
Troubled Americans by Hans J. Schneider, a German who
endured physical suffering and privation under Hitler and
Stalin’s dictatorships. Schneider sees much the same
coming to America, and he details much of the practical
self-sufficiency, survival skills, and innovations that
helped his family survive one of the most difficult periods
in human history.
This book is now out of print, but has been sold
through MIA for years. Many subscribers have a copy,
and we encourage them to read and heed it. Other MIA

Schneider writes: “In those early years after the war
there was almost nothing available to be bought, as
practically no stores were in existence. Our moral and
economic survival came under test at that time.
“We found that a person learns many things which
he never thought he would or could do when he is put
under the acid test of survival. He loses his specialization
and branches out into many different areas of making a
living. Under such circumstances people really learn how
to improvise, and this is one of the great arts of life which
will always come in handy.
“We were able to secure a limited amount of wool for
knitting needs by unraveling old socks, mittens and
sweaters after cutting off the worn-out areas. We would
end up with a pile of small pieces of wool which we would
knot together and roll into a ball. Then we were able to
knit new woolen garments.
“We actually made our clothes out of potato sacks. We
fabricated our own shoes from old automobile inner tubes
and tires and various other items we could lay our hands
on. We built our own bicycles out of various scrap parts
we found lying around the countryside and on rubbish
piles. Those bicycles were made from parts of many
different types of bicycles. We did not have the comfort of
riding on inflated tires, but had to ride them on the rim
and on cobbled streets. Can you imagine what a rattling
that made! However, even that seemed like paradise for us
children.
“People who lived in an area where there was good
snow cover in the wintertime found skis, snowshoes, and
sleds very helpful. Some were able to use a large dog such
as a St. Bernard, a goat, or a cow as a draft animal.”
JOYS OF A SIMPLE LIFE – “We found that the
simple life brought along with it many joys that in a more
sophisticated environment were not so much part of us.
Smaller things took on a new meaning and we became
more thankful for the little things of everyday life. It was
not long until we started to improvise by cutting old
garden hoses apart, filling them with sand, and putting
them on the bicycles securely by sewing them together.
Riding those bicycles with the hoses really made a
difference – and what an experience that was!”

E. ACQUIRING BASIC SKILLS
Hundreds of thousands of young Americans are
graduating from college today with degrees, but no skills.
They are educated (hopefully), but not prepared for
life – most are not finding jobs in their field of
education, and have no skills to fall back upon.
As a practical matter (regardless of the condition of
the country), parents should be teaching or making sure
their children are taught at least a few basic skills (i.e.,
auto mechanics, carpentry, salesmanship, upholstery,
sewing, knitting, canning, writing, etc.) that they can fall
back on when times are tough and higher paying jobs are
not available. Even if you send a son or daughter to
college, a year at a trade school to develop a skill could be
a great confidence builder and an “ace in the hole” just in
case.
[ED. NOTE: This writer sent his 18-year old son
(before college) to a log building school where he learned
to build log cabins from free standing trees to a finished
dwelling, as well as log furniture. That is a skill he will
have the rest of his life and post-college could have fallen
back upon as a business. His next skill was to learn how
to fly (i.e., get a pilot’s license). This writer also sent his
wife and daughter to school to study and acquire skills in
the preparation and application of herbal medicines, while
his wife and another son also took an EMT course to
learn emergency medical skills.]
With regard to self-sufficiency, there are a number of
skills that parents and children should develop (at least
one or more members of a family per skill). Some of
these include: hunting; tracking; fishing; trapping; organic
gardening; canning; backpacking (camping); sewing;
knitting; food storage and preservation; HAM (short-
wave) radio operation; proficiency with firearms;
ammunition reloading; if near mountains or snow country
– cross country skiing and snowmobiling; mountain
climbing; self-defense skills such as karate or judo; flying
(i.e., a pilot’s license); if near an ocean, scuba diving; log
building; computer use and programming; emergency
first aid; knowledge and application of herbal medicine;
animal husbandry, and many others.
Any of these skills can have great practical benefits,
as well as recreational benefits. Why not have fun while
moving towards self-sufficiency?

F. IF POSSIBLE, MOVE TO THE
COUNTRY
After having spent over 40 years living in large cities,
this writer has become hooked on small town/country
living over the past twenty years. [ED. NOTE: For the
purpose of this discussion, by “small town” this writer
means one with a maximum population of 15,000. Five to
ten thousand is even better. All of the big city problems
discussed below grow rapidly with the size of the town
(i.e., a town with 50,000 people will have most of the
same problems as a huge city or metro area).] The reasons
for this dramatic shift in lifestyle and away from urban
living for this writer (and his family) and hundreds of
thousands of other families in America in recent years
include the following:
1. The strain of big city living (i.e., traffic, smog,
rapidly proliferating crime, the breakneck pace, the hassle
involved in doing almost everything, as America’s big
cities move toward traffic/people/infrastructure gridlock);
and now the danger of terrorist attacks with suitcase
nukes or biologicals and government surveillance of
citizens and other controls in order to “fight the war
against terrorism.”
2. Traditional American values are still much more
prevalent (though diminishing) in small towns or the
country than in the cities. People in the country or small
towns are more friendly, more helpful, and more
conservative; there are fewer drugs, and less exposure to
AIDS.
3. Small towns or the country are far safer than
America’s large cities – the crime rate per capita is far
lower, people in the country and many small towns still
leave their cars or their houses unlocked without fear of
robbery, and adults (or children) can walk the streets of

most small towns (day or night) without the fear of
robbery, mugging, rape, kidnapping, or drive-by
shootings. There are few (to no) gangs or gang related
problems in small towns and virtually none in the country.
The likelihood of terrorist attacks in small towns or in the
country is negligible.
4. “Big Brother” (who wishes to control every
aspect of Americans’ lives) has a much more difficult
time controlling people in the country or in small
towns. The move toward global socialism (i.e., the New
World Order, or global socialism, or fascism) is about
“people control” and 90% of Americans still live in
major American cities or metropolitan areas where
they will be much easier to control in the coming
socialist/New World Order dispensation.
5. There is much greater freedom and independence
in a small town and especially in the countryside than in
a major American city. This factor should become critical
in the approaching period of terrorist upheaval, in a State
of National Emergency, etc. People in the country or in
a small town will band together to help one another in
a time of national crisis far more readily than in the
major American cities, where it will be “dog-eat-dog”
and every man for himself.
[ED. NOTE: During the Russian Revolution and
Nazi upheaval in Europe, people in the countryside fared
much better than their friends and relatives in the cities.

6. Real estate prices have been declining in most
large American cities (due to the recession) far more
severely than in small towns or in the country. That
trend should continue as the recession (or depression)
deepens over the next few years. With the coming
economic and social upheaval in America, this
“spread” (or disparity) between big city/suburb real estate
prices and those in certain small towns and the
countryside is likely to continue to grow. An excellent,
almost prophetic book (written about 25 years ago)
entitled: Penturbia: Where Real Estate Will Boom AFTER
the Crash of Suburbia by Jack Lessinger, Ph.D. Socio
Economics Press (available used on Amazon.com)
analyzes the shift from urban to country and small town
real estate, which has now been underway for more than a
decade.
7. It is possible to have far greater self-sufficiency
in the country – where a family can grow some or all of
their own food (e.g., gardening and raising chickens,
rabbits, goats, cattle, sheep, etc.); have a water well that is

not part of a city water system (and therefore not heavily
fluoridated, chlorinated or otherwise chemicalized);
where you can heat your home with a wood stove with
readily available firewood and no fear of violation of
pollution laws, or use solar power); where it is easier to
hunt and fish for food (as well as for sport); where the
neighbors can barter food and other necessities that they
grow or make; and last but not least, where neighbors
still have a more rugged individualist, independent
spirit and will band together to help one another in
times of crisis. This trait has been very apparent in the
aftermath of weather catastrophes throughout middle
America.
8. The lifestyle in the country or a small town is (in
the opinion of this writer) vastly superior to that in the
cities. Families can be seen walking the streets together in
small towns; county fairs draw families, as do small town
festivals and parades; children can walk the streets or play
in front of their homes without fear of harm; everybody
knows everybody (so privacy among neighbors is
diminished – a possible negative – i.e., there are no
secrets in a small town). In the country, children can have
horses, raise farm animals with the local 4-H Club to
show in the county fair, learn about nature, animals, basic
skills, the outdoors, etc.
9. The country breeds an attitude of independence,
individualism, and self-sufficiency in adults and children.
The water is pure, the air is clean (what is smog, where is
the smog?); the birds and crickets can be heard and the
hassle of big city living is reduced by 95%.
Living in a small town or the country is the closest
thing you can find in America today to the America of the
1940s or ’50s (or earlier). It is not sophisticated or
worldly or cosmopolitan – it is basic, traditional, and
wholesome. It is not for everyone, but is for those who
yearn for a better, more traditional, more family-oriented
lifestyle. A few years ago, Time Magazine carried a very
interesting cover story article entitled: “Boom Time In
The Rockies: More Jobs and Fewer Hassles Have
Americans Heading for the Hills” – which corroborated
this writer’s observations about a superior lifestyle in the
country outside of America’s faltering cities.
[ED. NOTE: It should be noted, by way of balance,
that small towns and the country are not immune to
America’s pervasive moral/cultural decline. They have
television, R-rated movies, and the government’s liberal,
secular humanist education. As a result, they have drugs,
teenage rebellion, teenage pregnancies, abortion, divorce,
pornography, and even government bureaucrats.

But the influence of America’s cultural freefall is felt
far less in the small towns or the country than in the cities.
If a person or family still wants a wholesome, traditional
lifestyle, it is possible in the country or in a small town. It
is almost impossible in America’s large cities where 90%
of our population still dwells and where taxes are soaring
and the culture and infrastructure is literally in a freefall.]
[ED. NOTE: If you cannot or will not relocate to a
small town or to the country, there are still many areas of
preparedness and self-sufficiency (to be discussed below)
which you can accomplish. It is simply easier in a small
town and easier still in the country.]
G. URBAN SELF-SUFFICIENCY
If you live in the city, there are a number of dangers
you must protect against: fire, flood, earthquake,
hurricane, and other natural disasters; crime and attacks
against your person, your family, your home, your car or
your business; terrorist attacks; and contact with
contagious diseases, viruses, AIDS, etc.
A few common-sense principles or disciplines that
you should employ if you live in the city include:
1. Possession of a 12 gauge semi-automatic or
pump shotgun and the willingness to use it in a defensive
situation. If a burglar or intruder hears the classic “click”
of a shotgun as you crank a shell into the chamber, he will
normally flee immediately.
2. Possession (at minimum) of at least one large
caliber handgun in a home (i.e., .38 Special, 9mm, .45
ACP, .357 Magnum) and the training and practice to use it
proficiently in a defensive situation.
3. Every woman should carry an aerosol of 10%
pepper spray in her purse and every car should have
such a dispenser in it that is readily accessible. Joggers
and bikers (especially female) should always have such a
dispenser with them. The police in many cities now use
this in lieu of Mace or night sticks – a direct hit in the
face from 10 to 15 feet away will temporarily blind an
attacker (and cause great discomfort) for 30-45 minutes.
A not-so-bright friend of this writer’s accidentally shot
this writer in the face with 10% pepper spray, and this
writer became an “instant believer” in its efficiency.
If you should find yourself in a situation where 10%
pepper spray is not available, a can of oven cleaner will
do very nicely, except that the attacker is likely to be
permanently blinded. If it’s you versus him, you make the
choice!

4. Some knowledge of personal self-defense or
martial arts for every member of the family is advisable.
Every major city has such schools – some taught by the
police.
5. When driving in the city, always keep your
doors locked and windows up. Lock your car doors
immediately upon entry. Many carjackings, kidnappings,
and assaults take place at stop signs, red lights, or in
shopping center parking lots.
6. When leaving an office building, shopping center,
restaurant, etc. (especially at night) get your car keys out
with the door key in hand for quick and easy entry
into your car. Many attackers lurk about in parking lots,
waiting for their victim as she or he fumbles with car
keys.
7. Be aware of your surroundings and who might be
watching or following you. Begin to be alert to your
environment and what might not feel right. Be observant
of people around you, as well as cars which could be
following you. New Yorkers long ago learned to be “street
smart” and alert in this manner.
8. Learn to live in the yellow zone when you are in
public in the city. The red zone is the crisis (fight-or-
flight) mode; the white zone is the totally relaxed mode,
and the yellow zone is the alert, be-prepared-for-an-
emergency mode. Most people in the country or a small
town live in the white zone most of the time. That is not a
luxury you have in the city.
9. Avoid flashing money, jewelry, or other signs of
affluence or wealth when in the city. Big flashy cars or
sports cars attract attention to yourself, your family, or
your affluence. A basic sedan, old car, pickup truck, etc.,
is lower profile in an age of envy, theft, and high crime.
10. Keep a low profile wherever possible.
Underdress, don’t overdress in most public situations.
In Italy, the wealthy wear blue jeans and no jewelry in
public, drive old cars, and generally work overtime to
keep a low profile and avoid kidnappings or physical
attacks.
11. A burglar alarm system for city dwellers is no
longer a luxury, but a necessity. So is a high fence in the
back yard and on the sides of the house. A barking dog,
even a small one, is also a useful deterrent to intruders.
12. A garage door opener that keeps your garage
door securely locked when not opened, and which
automatically opens and closes as you drive in and out, is
an important security device – especially for women and
especially at night.

13. Dead bolts on all external doors; a heavily
barred and lockable (with key) screen door; and
possibly bars on windows, are all advisable in high-
crime areas.
14. All city dwellers should have a supply of
dehydrated or freeze dried food (preferably one year’s
supply for the entire family) stored in their homes
(unknown to neighbors). Remember the paralysis of the
food distribution chain after Hurricane Andrew, the
Midwest floods, during the Los Angeles riots, etc. In a
national crisis, (military, terrorist, nuclear, etc.) most
food deliveries to cities will cease almost immediately
and food supplies within the cities will be exhausted
within two to three days. [ED. NOTE: After the 9/11
disaster, no food delivery trucks could enter the city for
several days. The average grocery store has food for only
three routine business days – not enough for a crisis.]
15. Backyard gardens (not unlike the “victory
gardens” of World War II) can also be a source of food
for your family in a crisis. Acquire the tools, the seeds,
and the gardening skills now. (Get non-hybrid seeds,
which can reproduce themselves!)
16. Get acquainted with farmers or ranchers outside
your city who might supply you with eggs, poultry, meat,
or vegetable/fruit produce in the midst of a crisis.
17. Water is the Achilles Heel of city dwellers. In a
crisis, city water supplies could be contaminated or
halted. A minimum of 10-20 gallons of water per family
member should be stored in 5-gallon (or larger) plastic
containers. Pools and hot tubs are excellent sources –
though their water must be filtered and dechlorinated. A
waterbed is also an excellent source of stored water,
though that water will have to have special chemical
treatment to make it drinkable. Water purification tablets
or techniques should be on hand.
18. Gas tanks on all vehicles should always be kept
as full as possible and the habit should be formed of only
using the top half of the tank and then refilling.
19. An escape route (in fact, several escape routes)
from the city (and a destination) should be preplanned
in the event of massive rioting, physical or nuclear
disaster, bioterrorism, etc. In the event of a paralysis of
streets, roads, or freeways, bicycles (enough for the entire
family) are an excellent means of transportation.

Europe throughout World War II.
20. A creative place (or places) needs to be found in
your home, garage, yard, etc. to hide valuables (i.e.,
coins, cash, jewelry, and very private papers) or

firearms from burglars or others who might wish to
steal or seize your assets. Bank safety deposit boxes are
normally safe from theft unless it is a government seizure.

21. A plan needs to be established for how and
where the family will rendezvous in the event of a
crisis when the father and/or mother are/is at work,
the children are at school, the mother may be at home,
shopping, etc. Who picks up the children? Where do you
meet? Where do you go?
22. If the city becomes suddenly unlivable, due to a
terrorist attack or whatever, where do you go? To a
friend or relative in the country? To a retreat? Develop a
plan!
23. Reduce your exposure to urban/suburban real
estate. Try renting in the city and buying an inexpensive
small town or country home or retreat. If cash flow
dictates, you might rent out the country/small town home
on a very short-term lease basis.
24. Reduce your exposure to the host of new
viruses and diseases (some of which are airborne) by
avoiding large crowds where possible, by avoiding hot
tubs, Jacuzzis, steam baths, and public swimming pools;
by avoiding meals on airlines; and by avoiding eating at
most fast food restaurants where the hygiene and nutrition
are abysmal.
Public schools, day schools, day care centers, and
other public gathering places are major incubators for
communicable diseases and should be avoided where
possible. Airplanes and enclosed office buildings (where
the same air is continuously recirculated) are also
incubators for disease.
25. A radio scanner (portable, handheld) is an
excellent device which can scan thousands of radio
channels (i.e., police, aircraft, government agencies,
etc.). In time of emergency, when the media may not
be telling it like it is, this is an excellent way to keep
abreast of current developments. For more information,

H. BE CIRCUMSPECT WITH YOUR
SELF-SUFFICIENCY PLANS
Certain things that you do to enhance your own self-
sufficiency, independence, or survival in difficult times
(e.g., gun or gold ownership, international asset
diversification, a retreat, cash you may have on hand, a
bomb shelter, etc.) are really no one’s business but your
own and your family’s. When in doubt about a person,
don’t disclose such preparations to them.
In unstable, turbulent, chaotic times, friends,
neighbors, and even relatives will do strange things – they
will betray you and turn you in to officials because of
pressure on them and their families, because you are
better off than they are, or for bribes. Indeed, various US
government agencies are already paying people to spy
on relatives, neighbors, or associates. It will get worse!
In his excellent book: Timely and Profitable Help for
Troubled Americans, Hans Schneider described the
strange behavior patterns which came over people during
the Soviet occupation of Germany:
“A very important point to realize in the case of a
general breakdown is that men will become worse than
beasts when they do not have food for their bellies, and
they will be ready to pounce upon their neighbor,
tearing him apart for just a piece of bread. We have seen
under Communism how even our own relatives and
apparent friends betrayed us when it came to a
showdown.
“For instance, my father was able to bring with him a
number of suitcases with the most valuable items in our
household in Breslau, such as genuine furs, jewelry, good
clothing and good shoes, as he made several trips
between Breslau and our small mountain hideout house.
Those personal effects were hidden in the center of a
woodshed on the premises and firewood was stored
around those belongings. We thought that those items
were perfectly secure from theft or takeover by the foreign
troops invading.
“One day, two Russian Communist soldiers
questioned my uncle about those very belongings and it
was hard for us to understand how they had knowledge of
them. They took a gun, turned it around and started

knocking down my uncle, threatening him if he would not
tell them where those goods were stored. Naturally, before
surrendering his life, my uncle told those Communists
where the items had been stored. They immediately
ordered him to remove the firewood and left with all those
goods, after telling my uncle that they were told about
them by relatives of ours living right next door.
Therefore, as you make survival preparations, do not
disseminate information to more people than you
absolutely have to.”
The principle: “When in doubt, shut up!”
CONCLUSION
In this writer’s opinion, your goal (for you and your
family) should be to optimize your freedom,
independence, and self-sufficiency over the next one to
three years as the whole world moves in the opposite
direction toward upheaval, instability, breakdown, and
collectivism.
This writer is not the only one who sees the instability
coming. Nations Business magazine (published by the US
Chamber of Commerce) carried an excellent eight-page
feature article a few years ago entitled “Preparing For
The Worst,” which discussed the rash of physical
disasters to hit America (i.e., flood, earthquake, hurricane,
etc.) and the need to be prepared for more. One of the
subtitles for the article said: “Planning for disaster can
help you curb the damage, recover more quickly, and
uncover hidden opportunities.” This writer could not
agree more!
But the truth is, the great majority of Americans will
not prepare, they will not anticipate the physical,
political, social, and financial problems (many of which
are analyzed each month in MIA) until they are up to their
eyeballs in alligators and it is too late. Complacency and
apathy still run extremely deep across America, but
hopefully not among most MIA subscribers.
This writer believes (and, incidentally, fervently
hopes that he is wrong) that our whole way of life is
going to change dramatically (even convulsively) over the
next one to three years, and that our economic affluence
and many of our freedoms, which we have had and have
taken for granted for so long, are about to be severely
challenged by financial and political forces that are at
work in this country (and around the world today).
This writer’s encouragement to each reader of
MIA is that you sit down and re-evaluate your entire
lifestyle and priorities financially, physically,
geographically, occupationally, family-wise, and

spiritually. Objectively assess where you are today and
where you want to be in one to three to five years in
light of developments and the epic changes that are
coming in America and around the world. It is time to
get back to the basics – to what is really important.
This special report has tried to briefly analyze a
number of areas of self-sufficiency: the psychology of
self-sufficiency; developing a mindset of survival;
country living versus city (as America’s cities go into
convulsions); acquisition of basic skills; food; medical;
and spiritual self-sufficiency; and to give some beginning
sources of information, books, suppliers, in these areas.
Readers are encouraged to buy some of these books
today, to begin to build a library of same, to read them,
and to begin to apply the principles contained therein.
This writer would strongly encourage readers to
consider making dramatic changes in their lifestyles
now! If this special report has pushed you out of your
comfort zone in some small way – that is great. If you’ve
never made any self-sufficiency preparations, the journey
from where you are to where you may wish to be may
look like a long and arduous one. But a journey of a
thousand miles starts with the first step, and then the
second and so on.
In this writer’s opinion, it is naïve and
Pollyannaish to expect life to proceed as normal, as
America lurches toward economic, social, and political
convulsions – exacerbated by terrorism on our own
soil and the war against terrorism – which is
threatening many of our freedoms. Relying on the
system as it exists today could be a fatal (or at least a very
costly) mistake, as public utilities and other services we
take for granted could be cut off or interrupted during
times of chaos. Electricity brownouts, water shortages,
and unpredictable supplies of food and other basic
commodities are a fact of life in much of the world.
Anyone who believes “it can’t happen here” is avoiding
reality.
The upheaval which we saw launched on 9/11/01 in
New York and Washington could spread all over the
country as the terrorist war accelerates. Financial, social,
and infrastructure breakdowns can be expected (they are
already occurring in large urban areas like Detroit,
Chicago, and LA) and should be prepared for.
Getting prepared for tough times can be a formidable
task, and some people may take a defeatist approach to
self-sufficiency. Since they can’t do everything (or do it
all immediately), they will take no action at all. Do the
best you can with what you have. It is far better to take

gradual “baby” steps in a phased program as your
finances allow than to procrastinate and accomplish
nothing.
In the opinion of this writer, the period that lies
immediately ahead in America will test your courage,
tenacity, character, and perhaps even your will to
survive. It is the hope and prayer of this writer that
readers of this report in America and elsewhere will
develop a real sense of urgency to get themselves and
their families out of harm’s way, and will develop a strong
reliance on God and knowledge of His Word in so doing.
PART II

INTRODUCTION
America is plunging toward the greatest period of
financial, political, and social instability and upheaval in
its history as the Obama regime and the Liberal Eastern
Establishment push us towards a socialist police state and
the New World Order. The US economy is faltering.
Crime is turning our major cities into war zones. Drugs,
liberal education, sexual permissiveness, and rebellion
against parental authority are destroying our families and
especially our children.
An all-powerful government is moving to control
every aspect of our lives from the cradle to the grave with
tens of thousands of new laws, rules, and regulations
promulgated each year that are making it almost
impossible for individuals, families, or businesses to
function and prosper. Freedom is under attack as never
before in America in every way imaginable, and the very
foundations of our culture, our traditional way of life, our
Constitution, and our families are crumbling.
King David asked the question in Psalm 11:3: “When
the foundations are being destroyed, what can the
righteous do?” The Bible answers that we should seek
God for refuge, and direction. In Psalm 97:10 it also says
“Let those who love the Lord hate evil” and in Proverbs
8:13: “To fear the Lord is to hate evil.” Romans 12:9
says “Hate what is evil, cling to what is good.”
The average American today (including many
Christians brainwashed with liberal secular humanism by
our media, educational system and government) cannot
even recognize the difference between good and evil,
much less take an actual stand against that evil. As
Edmund Burke once said: “All that is necessary for evil
to triumph is that good men do nothing.” Well, good men

and women in America have been doing nothing for
decades and evil is triumphing while our foundations
crumble.
Today, evil is manifested in America in the massive
push for homosexuality (think gays in the military, gay
marriage, gay life-style education from grade school to
high school); in the extermination of 1.6 million babies
per year; in rampant promiscuity; in an explosion of
pornography and drug use; in the breakdown of the
family; in the explosion of crime (especially in American
cities); and in a socialist government under the Obama
regime that is trying to force on the American people gun
control and control of our children, our private property,
our finances, our health and our wealth, and even our
thinking.
In this writer’s opinion, the primary message of the
Bible is two-fold: Take an active stand in every way for
God, for His Son, and for His laws, and take an active
stand against evil. Regarding the latter, concerned
Americans need to get involved in local, state, and
national political initiatives and organizations that support
and defend America, our Constitution, our traditional
values, the family, and the free market. MIA has long
advocated involvement in political action and will
continue to do so.
But there is another concept in the Bible – that of
being prepared, of getting out of harm’s way, of
providing for your family. As I Timothy 5:8 says, “If
one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for
his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse
than an unbeliever.” Many Americans are in a very
complacent comfort zone and nothing short of personal
catastrophe will shake them out of their apathy, or cause
them to prepare for difficult times.
Many Christians believe that preparing for difficult
times or disaster demonstrates a lack of trust in God,
ignoring Biblical examples such as Joseph preparing
Egypt (at God’s instruction) for seven years of famine
through a massive food storage program, or Noah’s
preparing the ark for the great flood. Hence, they ignore
the signs of the times, assume that we are still living in a
1950s-type era where all is well and always will be, and
do nothing. But as Proverbs 27:12 says:
“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the
simple keep going and suffer for it.”
There are a number of areas of preparation for
difficult times and self-sufficiency that people who
understand the times in which we live should be rapidly
implementing at this time.

A. TOWARD GREATER FOOD
SELF-SUFFICIENCY
It is quite difficult to become totally food self-
sufficient if you live in the city, or for that matter if you
live in a small town. But you can prepare for unexpected
emergencies, such as riots, hurricanes, earthquakes,
blizzards, tornados, floods (such as the recent ones in the
US), etc. which can interrupt food supplies for weeks or
even months. This writer has long believed, and believes
more strongly than ever today, that every family in
America should have at least one year’s supply of
dehydrated or freeze dried food reserves for each member
of their family.
This does not make you food self-sufficient on a long-
term basis, but can carry you through an acute emergency,
which could include the loss of a job or business, with no
income coming in.
During several recent hurricanes, during the recent
floods in the Midwest, tornadoes across the southeastern
US such as the killer tornado that devastated Joplin,
Missouri, and during the Los Angeles riots 20 years ago,
many people could not get to the grocery stores, or the
stores were closed, or their shelves empty, or in Los
Angeles many were burned to the ground. This was true
for convenience stores and fast food restaurants as well.
Many people did not have enough groceries on the
shelf to last two days or even through a weekend. Some
depended upon food handouts from FEMA and other
relief agencies. In Los Angeles, some people sat behind
locked doors with riots in the streets and with no weapons
and no food – guarding their families with baseball bats.
Americans are not well prepared – most think that a
disaster or tough times cannot hit them (it’s called
DENIAL) – but recent events show that it can! Think
Japan’s recent earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear
meltdown, or think Joplin, Missouri. Think about the
record number of floods, wildfires and earthquakes in
America in 2011.
LONG-TERM FOOD SELF-SUFFICIENCY
CONSIDERATIONS
Thirty to forty years ago, America had several years
of food surpluses or reserves (i.e., two to four years at any
given time) set aside for times of emergency, famine,
drought, or war; much as our strategic metals stockpile
used to be set aside for times of national emergency. Over
the past few decades, these food surpluses have been sold
off or given as aid to other countries – and allowed to
dwindle to almost nothing.

Another phenomenon has been the bankruptcy or
closure of over two-thirds of America’s family farms over
the past few decades – due to financial difficulties, low
farm commodity prices, or government regulations such
as the draconian environmental laws. Most of this farm
land has been taken out of production forever, with much
of it being incorporated into US government lands or
bought up by multinational food corporations. So with a
burgeoning population (i.e., 311 million, not counting tens
of millions of illegals), America is now experiencing a
sharp decline in food surpluses.
[ED. NOTE: It should also be understood that over
95% of America’s food production today is controlled by
five multinational food giants that comprise an
“unofficial” multinational food cartel that controls US
(and global) food production, supplies, deliveries, and
prices – not to mention seed production. This “big five”
group works closely with the US Department of
Agriculture and is closely tied to the New World Order
and the Liberal Eastern Establishment, which control
America’s financial system, media, educational system
and much of the government. The power to control food
supplies will be the ultimate in people and population
control in the emerging New World Order!]
For greater long-term food self-sufficiency, most
families should take up gardening and/or learn how to
grow vegetables hydroponically in a greenhouse. A 30x30
foot garden could grow most of the vegetables a family of
four would need for a year, and could be grown even in
the backyard of most city homes (not very privately,
however).
Hans Schneider wrote in Timely and Profitable Help
for Troubled Americans (referred to in Part I of this
report) about how the German people had to innovate to
procure food during the Soviet occupation: “The food
situation would have been a catastrophe to supermarket
shoppers. There was practically no food to be bought in
those days. We found our supplies by picking berries and
mushrooms in the mountains. We had a small garden
where we had various fruits such as currants,
gooseberries and cherries, as well as strawberries,
potatoes, tomatoes and many other products. We used
nettles as spinach which, by the way, is very healthful and
very tasty if prepared properly. We used dandelion leaves
and other wild edible greens for our salads.
“We had one goat and three chickens which supplied
us with milk, meat and eggs. It was important to have only
economical animals as there were no resources for fancy
livestock and no time available to invest in that type of
undertaking. Such easy-to-care-for animals provided

people not only with food but also with leather, which they
could prepare with just a few added items.
[ED. NOTE: Growing rabbits in a few back yard
hutches is a great source of meat and fur for warmth in
winter, and takes up very little space. In high school, this
writer started with two rabbits and in short order had
almost 100. They are cleaner and less smelly than
chickens, and can be grown in a city backyard on a
relatively low profile basis – or even on the roof top of a
large multi-story apartment house. Our socialist
government may soon outlaw such endeavors, but some
resourceful Americans will still find a way.]
“All of the foods I mentioned were fresh products, and
from those we could conserve for the wintertime. Many of
the mushrooms we sliced into thin pieces and hung on a
string in a warm room or in the sunshine to dry. They
were later added to meat dishes and made into delicious
soups. We also were able to dry some fruits and
vegetables, such as pears and apples, in a similar way.
Many other vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots, etc.,
would keep through the winter imbedded in some soil or
sand in specially constructed bins in our cellar.
“We were able to secure wheat by gathering the
heads from the fields after the grain had been harvested.
We rubbed them on an old-fashioned washboard placed in
a container, so the kernels would be separated and
collected. Then on a windy day we winnowed the wheat
by slowly pouring it into another container placed about
two feet below. These wheat kernels were ground for
bread, cereal, etc. Even a simple coffee grinder will do.”
When considering gardening or farming, it should be
understood that most seeds today are hybrids – meaning
that they have been crossed so much that they are not
fertile (they can only give life one time – there is no
second generation – and therefore new seeds must be
bought each year). A few large multinational agriculture
companies such as Monsanto control most of the hybrid
seed production and therefore all future food production
in America, and a growing proportion of global food
production.
On the other hand, non-hybrid germinating seeds will
continue to reproduce for generations (eliminating the
need to buy new seeds) and can be stored for up to 10
years. If one gets serious about long-term food self-
sufficiency, a large supply of non-hybrid seeds should be
purchased and stored. (You can find excellent information

[ED. NOTE: Remember, the New World Order/
global socialist/environmentalist crowd wants to control
people and wants to control population growth – they are
very open about both. (That is what abortion and
euthanasia are all about – some people think the AIDS
crisis is as well.) What better way to do it than by
controlling food supplies, and with those supplies as thin
as they are in America today, food control as a weapon of
the New World Order may not be so far-fetched. Indeed,
the supplies of dehydrated/freeze dried food in America
are extremely thin and would dry up overnight if even
10-20,000 Americans began to buy them at once. This is
another important reason for families who understand the
t i m e s t o m o v e t o w a r d f o o d s e l f - s u ff i c i e n c y
expeditiously.]
Several excellent books are available dealing with
many facets of self-sufficiency or preparedness including
sections on food self-sufficiency. This writer’s good
friends the late James McKeever and Jeani McKeever a
number of years ago published an excellent book on
disaster preparedness entitled Preparing for Emergencies
(available “used” at the time of this writing from allbook
stores.com), which analyzed in depth most areas of
becoming self-sufficient in food.
Another excellent book is the Old Fashioned Recipe
Book: An Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla
Emery. This is not a cookbook. It deals with almost every
aspect of self-sufficiency, including food production and
preservation (available used at the time of this writing
from allbookstores.com for as little as $14).
[ED. NOTE: If you want a simple, low cost, rather
boring – but life-sustaining food reserve (or insurance) –
buy 5, 10, 20, or more five-gallon nitrogen sealed buckets
of rice (brown rice is most nutritious) and red beans.
(Rice is the daily staple diet of over two billion Asians
and Africans.) You can also buy five-gallon buckets of
wheat, oats, corn meal, salt, honey, etc. Properly stored in
nitrogen-sealed buckets, these staples can be kept for
decades. (This writer and his family have done so.)
Check with your local ag co-ops for where you can
buy such bulk foods in your area. (Some of our wealthier
readers are probably saying that they would or could
never eat such a diet – perhaps that is true, but in a huge
crisis, hungry or starving people will eat almost anything
and will be grateful for it.)
It did occur to this writer while writing this section
that it is our wealthier, more affluent subscribers who

can most readily afford these and other survival
preparations, but who are the most likely to make
little to no preparations. It is easy for them to believe
that in hard times, their wealth will protect them “as it
always has,” or that they are “bulletproof from disaster.”
This writer has found that those people he knows with
the most wealth are by and large the most complacent

B. MEDICAL SELF-SUFFICIENCY
There are three problems with the medical system in
America today. The first is that traditional allopathic
medicine doesn’t have answers for many people with
degenerative diseases such as cancer, multiple sclerosis,
muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s,
AIDS – it cannot cure them, except maybe in about
5-10% of the cancer cases. (It is now estimated that one
out of three Americans in their lifetime will contract
cancer.) Nor does traditional medicine have cures for the
host of new deadly viruses (some laboratory produced)
that are coming on stream with a vengeance.
The second and even greater problem is the political
left’s efforts to socialize the entire US medical system as
per the former Soviet bloc or Sweden.
The third problem is that the government (via the
FDA) is in an unholy alliance with the American Medical
Association and the large pharmaceutical companies. That
alliance is attempting to stamp out all forms of alternative
medicine and is jailing doctors and practitioners of such
medicine or seizing their clinics, equipment, records, and
supplements – ostensibly to “protect the public.” (The
outlawing of many, if not most, natural health
supplements is rapidly approaching.) That’s like
protecting the public via the “drug war,” or “privacy,” or
new “child abuse,” or “terrorism,” or “gun control” laws.
It is called “controlling the people under the guise of
protecting them.” (Or is it called “population control” – a
phenomenon we see currently with abortion and next
euthanasia, and which we saw in Nazi Germany.)
There are a number of alternative medicine
treatments, therapies, or modalities which have evolved,
some over centuries and others in recent years, which
have been very promising as far as controlling or
eliminating certain degenerative diseases, as well as
viruses. (The best kept little secret of our day is that many
patients diagnosed as terminally ill are being cured of

their diseases at alternative medicine clinics both in and
out of the US.)
These techniques or therapies would include chelation
therapy (which eliminates the need for much of the very
expensive and unnecessary bypass or open heart surgery),
oxygen therapy (ozone, hydrogen peroxide, or hyperbaric
chambers), enzyme and nutritional therapy, homeopathy,
herbal medicine, and bio-magnetic (bio-electric)
therapies, as well as a number of detoxification
techniques (includ-ing colon hydrotherapy) designed to
clean the poisons and toxins out of the body and
strengthen the body’s auto-immune system. A number of
these fall into the category of “preventive medicine” – a
concept which the traditional medical establishment by-
and-large shuns or maligns as “quackery.” (Where is the
profit in diseases or illnesses that are prevented?)
The government is moving to stamp out and close
down alternate (or preventive) medicine clinics,
supplement and vitamin manufacturers, health food
stores, herbalists and herbal supply houses, and either jail
or put out of business many of these practitioners or
manufacturers via a host of Nazi-style FDA rules and
regulations, as they try to force everyone into their highly
computerized, socialized medicine system.
This is all being orchestrated by the large
pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, a group of US
legislators (who are in bed with and well paid by the big
drug companies), and of course the Obama
Administration.
As this process continues and accelerates, it will
become necessary for people who believe in and use
preventive or alternate medical techniques, to either
know like-minded practitioners who will treat patients
on a very low profile (i.e., almost underground) basis;
to seek alternate medical treatments for diseases such
as cancer, MS, MD, Parkinson’s, AIDS, and a host of
others diseases outside of the US (for those who can
afford to travel to offshore clinics); or to learn
preventive medicine techniques that cannot be
stamped out by “Big Brother.”
Knowledge of detoxification techniques, proper diet
and nutrition, herbal medicine, oxygen (i.e., hydrogen
peroxide or ozone) therapy, enzyme therapy, vegetable
juice fasting, and bowel management will be essential and
perhaps life saving for you or members of your family.
If one cannot rely on the emerging socialized
medicine system, and if (or when) most facets of the
practicing alternate medicine community have been shut
down, then you will be forced to utilize natural,

preventive medical techniques to become medically self-
sufficient – but first one must set aside any preconceived
biases or prejudices against alternate medicine, and go on
a crash course to become knowledgeable about same.
Hundreds of natural (non-chemical) remedies and
techniques practiced by our forefathers, by the Indians
(once the most self-sufficient people in America), the
Chinese, and others have been forgotten in our modern,
affluent, sophisticated 21st-century America. But in
difficult times, when the entire system has gone into
gridlock, or has ceased to function, as in Germany in the
’30s and ’40s or in Russia from 1917 forward, knowledge
and expertise in these natural approaches may save your
life.
Hans Schneider describes in his aforementioned book
how alternate, natural medicine techniques were used by
the German people in Soviet-occupied Germany after the
war – techniques that saved lives when no other form of
medical treatment was available:
“While spending our five years under the Communist
terror regime, there were no medical facilities we could
call upon whatsoever. Fortunately, my aunt had a
knowledge of herbs and curing diseases by simple home
remedies. To our amazement, the sores on my foot and
troubles which I struggled with for many months received
greater and faster relief through the herbal treatment than
they had through medical salves and treatments.
“We used narrow-leaf plantain which we washed in
pure water and dried with a clean towel. After this we
crushed and rubbed it between our hands and then
pressed the juice into the wounds. It produced an
immediate healing of wounds which had been running for
a long time. Since small bone splinters had been left in
the foot from the operation quickly performed under
emergency conditions at the very end of the war, the foot
would swell up and reopen after terrible pain, so there
was a need for cleansing and purification of the inner
system of the foot.
“Later, while I suffered terrible pain again when no
medical help was available, an old forester about eighty-
one years old visited us. He told my mother that there was
no need for me to suffer in such a way or for her to go
through those agonies with me. He advised us to go to the
forest and dig loam or mud (because loam does not
contain any stones) after removing the upper layer (about
half a foot thick). Then we took that loam and mixed it up
with water until it became a thick, pasty substance and
applied it on and well around the afflicted part about the
thickness of two fingers.

“Then some clean cotton cloths were wrapped around
it, bandages placed over the cloths and left on until the
mud had become dry. The dried mud was removed and
fresh, moist mud applied. This treatment opened the pores
and produced a suction which pulled out impure
substances from the body through the wounds and pores
and gave me definite, immediate and great relief.”
1. HERBAL MEDICINE
For years, the primary antibiotic for the Russian
Army in the field was garlic oil (an herbal remedy). Don’t
laugh – this writer has tried it on wounds and infections
and it works. Our family makes it out of garlic and olive
oil. Cayenne pepper is often called the universal herb: it
can be used to stop profuse bleeding, arrest a heart attack,
relieve ulcer symptoms, etc. It should be remembered that
in Bible times the primary medical treatment was herbs,
and when God wanted to judge the Israelites He took
away their herbs (i.e., their “balm in Gilead,” Jeremiah
8:22).
About 30 years ago, this writer was traveling in South
Africa and was in very poor health – suffering from
exhaustion, severe jaundice, and early indications of liver
cancer. When in Capetown, by Divine Providence this
writer encountered South Africa’s leading herbalist at the
time, the late Dr. Stanley Deane, who began to treat him
with an herbal medicine regime. Over the next 12 months,
this writer not only recovered his health and stamina, but
began to feel and act younger than he had in over 15
years. Many traditional medical practitioners would make
light of this experience, but to this writer it was very real.
Herbal medicine will be almost impossible for “Big
Brother” to stamp out (although the FDA is presently
illegalizing dozens of important herbs and harassing or
closing many herbal remedy suppliers). Their problem,
however, is that there are thousands of herbs in the US
(most are called “weeds”) and they cannot stamp out all
of them – in fact, the environmentalists probably wouldn’t
let them do so in any case.
How does one learn how to utilize herbal medicine?
For years the late Dr. John Christopher was probably
America’s leading herbalist. His book, School of Natural
Healing: The Reference Volume on Natural Herbs for the
Teacher, Student, or Herbal Practitioner is a classic and
should be read, studied, and in the library of every family
interested in medical self-sufficiency (available used at
the time of this writing from amazon.com).

2. USING ESSENTIAL OILS
As mentioned in Part I of this report, Essential Oils
(from Young Living Essential Oils) are an essential part
of an alternate/herbal medicine arsenal. We never leave
home without them – in fact, on a recent trip to remote
southern India, we used a number of these oils for fungal
infections, insect bites, sleep, headaches, respiratory
problems, and stomach bugs. We use them because they
work – fast! They are highly concentrated forms of herbs
that work far more quickly than regular herbal remedies.
(We use some of both almost every day out here in the
Third World on ourselves or with our orphans.)
Our son used a number of these oils a few years ago
(along with garlic oil) in Indonesia to reverse a very
serious late-stage case of gangrene of the foot – wherein,
the man (a poor beggar) would have lost his foot or leg to
amputation, or died. (As an aside, this writer has also seen
gangrene reversed using ozone gas – something that

in America.)

respiratory infection while spending a very cold and damp
Christmas in London. (I didn’t have any of my herbal
remedies or essential oils with me.) It deteriorated into
bronchitis over six weeks, in spite of four doctor visits
and that many different antibiotics. Finally, when I was
back home and very close to pneumonia, I started a

If you already take vitamin supplements, herbal
remedies, etc – and understand their benefits, it would be
wise (in this writer’s opinion) to stock up on some (i.e., a
year or two’s supply, or more of those which are most
important to you). The global/socialist juggernaut is

serious about stamping out supplements (as they have
already done for the most part in Europe), and forcing
everyone into their socialized medicine (people control/
population control) system. The big pharmaceutical
companies are collaborating with the political left in
Congress and the Obama Administration (as well as the
FDA) to eliminate most supplements over the next one
or two or three years.
[ED. NOTE: It might be a useful exercise to sit down
and ponder why the political left and the powers that be
so badly want to stamp out alternate medicine,
supplements, etc. This writer used to believe that it was
simply about money – about increasing profits for the big
pharmaceutical companies and their comrades-on-the-
take in the Congress and FDA – by stamping out all
competition. But this writer has begun to think that there
is something far more sinister behind these global efforts
to stamp out natural/alternate medicine. Think about it,
and prepare accordingly.]

This writer does not agree with everything in all of
these books, nor has he personally tried all they
recommend, but there is a wealth of information from

which to choose in these books for people or families
seeking greater medical/health self-sufficiency or
independence. If the incredible government crackdown on
alternate medicine continues, these books could be
banned by the FDA and become unavailable within a very
few years. A personal library of such books seems to this
writer to be a very prudent thing to have.
Many people place their health (and that of their
families) in the hands of their medical doctor, just as
many people place their finances in the hands of a bank
trust officer, stock broker, or financial planner. If the
doctor or financial advisor is incompetent or messes up
(as happens with some frequency) they may feel badly,
but, for them, life will go on. On the other hand, your
health or finances could be irreparably damaged.
In the final analysis, the only person that should be
responsible for managing your health (or finances)
should be you unless you would like to turn them over to
the Obama regime – which would like to have control but
which might not be a wise steward of your most precious
assets. In this writer’s opinion, being medically self-
sufficient ranks extremely high on the self-sufficiency
agenda in the turbulent period that lies ahead.
C. EDUCATIONAL SELF-
SUFFICIENCY
John Dewey (the reputed “father of modern
education” in America and a leading secular humanist)
once said that if the public (government) schools could
keep the children occupied from 7 or 7:30 a.m. in the
morning, throughout the day, with sports after school and
homework in the evening, the parents would have less
than an hour a day with their children, and the family’s
and Christian church’s influence over them could be
broken in about a generation. Has this happened?
What is the agenda of the government-sponsored
school system in America today? Is it to educate our
children and prepare them for life or is it to break the
influence of the family and Christian church over them;
dumb them down; and prepare them to be obedient,
unthinking serfs in the coming socialist America and New
World Order? This writer believes it is the latter three.
Today, our public school system in America is run
primarily by secular humanists who share and even
promote the agenda of the abortionists, the homosexuals,
the radical feminists, the evolutionists, the atheists, the
environmentalists, the hedonists, the globalists, the
socialists, and more and more the New Age movement.

The textbooks and curriculum are based almost
wholly on their philosophies (if you are a parent, check
them out!), and, in many school systems, any teacher who
dares to oppose them will be reprimanded, become
persona-non-grata, or may be terminated. Peer pressure
among teachers may be as great as among the students.
The majority of public school teachers today accept
and gladly teach these philosophies, or easily knuckle
under, because they themselves have been educated in
liberal secular humanist universities. (Of course, there are
exceptions from the old, more traditional school of
education, but many of these are older teachers who have
seen American education turned upside down in recent
years, and who have retired or are about to do so.)
What is secular humanism? It is a philosophy (or
rather a religion) that says there is no supernatural God;
rather, man is god and sits on the throne, man is getting
better and better and will determine his own destiny, there
are no absolutes, and if it feels good, do it. Secular
humanism is the underlying philosophy and common
denominator behind the abortionists, the homosexuals, the
radical feminists, the environmentalists, the evolutionists,
the atheists, the hedonists, the globalists, the liberals, the
socialists, the Nazis, and the communists.
If you understand secular humanism, you can
understand what makes the political left (which now
dominates all three branches of our government, the
media, and the US educational system) tick. Marx,
Engles, Lenin, Stalin, Gorbachev, Mao Tse Tung, Castro,
the Clintons, and Barack Obama were (or are) first and
foremost not just socialists (which they certainly were, or
are), but above all they were/are all secular humanists.
This writer used to be confused about the
commonality between many of the beliefs of the liberals
and the communists. But in the early ’80s, he read two
books by Dr. Tim LaHaye, entitled: The Battle for the
Mind and The Battle for the Family (Fleming H. Revell
Company, Old Tappan, New Jersey, 1980, 1982) and the
lights, bells, and whistles began to go off. These books
defined and delineated the common religion which most
people on the political left share (and which motivates
them) – namely, secular humanism.
Liberals and communists both share the same
collectivist/globalist/socialist mentality and view of God
and man, and differ primarily only in tactics and
techniques. To our founding fathers, the highest authority
was God and His law, as laid down in the Bible. To
liberals and communists, the highest authority is man and
his whims or instincts, and there should be no restraints

on those. But Jeremiah 17:9 says: “The heart [of man] is
deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who
can know it?”
The fruit of this ruling liberal secular humanist/
no-restraints philosophy (or religion) in America today
is seen in our near total social, moral, cultural free-
fall: in rampant promiscuity, homosexuality, abortion
(and next euthanasia), crime, gang warfare, exploding
use of drugs, and pornography; an inability to discern
between good and evil; and a growing condemnation
of the Bible, of the family, of all traditional values, and
of the US Constitution.
If these are the fruits of liberal secular humanism
in America today (and they are), they are also the
fruits of our public school system. Our children have
about as much chance of getting through a public
education in America today with their traditional
family, moral, religious values intact as a person
playing Russian Roulette with five of six chambers
loaded. And if they make it through high school with
those values intact, their chances of making it through
college with them intact is about one in ten.
John Neider, the head of a ministry called The Art of
Family Living and a popular radio talk show host has said
that in either high school or college about 86% of the
children from fundamental, evangelical Christian homes
are lost to their parents with respect to retaining their
family’s religious, moral, traditional values. When we
send our children to the public schools or universities
in America today, this writer believes that we are
donating their minds, their values, and their future
lives to the liberal secular humanists who also
dominate the political system. Traditionalist families
must wake up to this phenomenon and find an alternative.
At stake are their values, their children, and the future of
America.
THE HOME SCHOOLING ALTERNATIVE
The good news is that there is an alternative – a
loophole in the liberal secular humanists’ educational
monopoly. It is called “home schooling,” and it is well
suited to beat the present system, preserve our children’s
minds and values, and to give them a vastly superior
education to that presently offered by the secular
humanist government educational system. It is also
extremely well suited to families seeking greater self-
sufficiency and independence.
There are dozens of excellent curricula parents can
choose from that are based on traditional values; the US
Constitution; our Christian/Biblical history and heritage;

on traditional reading, writing, and arithmetic skills; and
on traditional morals and values. Most large cities have
annual home schooling conventions whereby these
materials can be examined and purchased. Many home
schooling families mix and match different subjects from
different suppliers.
It is estimated that there are close to three million
children in America today being home schooled and,
as the public schools implode with sex education,
training in condom use, crime, violence, drugs, and
children graduating who can’t read, write, or do math,
the home schooling movement is likely to continue to
grow rapidly.
The fruits of the home schooling movement are
almost exactly the opposite of the public schools. Home
schoolers normally score much higher on standardized
tests than their public school counterparts. Very few home
schoolers get involved in promiscuous sex, drugs, or
rebellion against parents or authority. Home schoolers are
almost always very close to their siblings and parents,
which is no longer the case in most American families
today. The vast majority of home schoolers retain their
traditional family, moral, and religious values – with the
exception of some who attend liberal public secular
universities. Even then, a higher percentage of former
home schoolers keep their act together.
[ED. NOTE: It seems to this writer that one of the
goals of education in American above and beyond
preparing young people for life and to earn a living
should be to build up and strengthen their character. Read
the old McGuffey Readers from the 1800s and you’ll see
that every page had to do with building character. Do the
public schools do this today? Home schooling does!]
A typical home schooling day will be four to five
hours of studies with infinitely more one-on-one time
with their teachers (i.e., the mother and/or father) than in
the public schools. The parents do not have to be college
educated or have teaching degrees. They have excellent
curriculum to follow, but they do need to love their
children and be willing to make a very real time sacrifice
to home school them. (Many parents’ priorities are such
that they will not make that sacrifice.) This is obviously
much more difficult for single parents, but can in some
instances still be done with the help of friends,
grandparents, etc.
Many home schoolers get jobs in the afternoon (either
paid or unpaid) in which they can learn a skill. The
biggest misconception about home schooling is that home
schooled children will grow up as social misfits. This

writer thinks this could be said about many public
schooled children today (try walking around the halls of
any public school in America today and take a close look)
but it is not true of the great majority of home schooled
children.
True, they do grow up extremely close to their parents
and brothers and sisters – but is that bad? But they also
know and socialize with many other home schoolers (as
well as friends at church) and in fact often share certain
classes (i.e., Latin, foreign languages, music, art, etc.)
with other home schoolers (i.e., 5 to 10 to 15) taught by a
teacher with a specialized skill for that subject.
In the majority of cases, home schoolers are far
more comfortable and self-confident around adults
than their public school counterparts, and very seldom
experience the so-called generation gap (which is in
part bred by the public schools). The so-called peer
pressure most teenagers experience in public schools is
practically non-existent among home schoolers. Home
schoolers are far more comfortable around children of all
ages (as well as adults), with less antagonism toward
younger children than their public school counterparts.
Most areas have groups of 10 to 20 to 50 home school
families who share similar values who meet together in
associations, or on a regular social basis. Some of these
organize sports teams among home schoolers which
compete with small public or private schools.
[ED. NOTE: This writer has seen a number of
parents who realized the value of home schooling leave
their children in public schools because the sports
were better (and they probably are!) only to lose their
children to the liberal secular humanists. This writer,
who played a lot of sports in his day, believes that
choosing sports over a traditional values-based
education is a mistake.]
Country living is particularly well suited to home
schooling (though not essential) because the greatest
laboratory for many of the subjects is the outdoors,
nature, plant and herb life, animal husbandry, raising
crops or animals, etc. It is a more propitious environment
for home schoolers to learn hands-on skills and to work
in. There are always 101 jobs to do when a family lives in
the country, and, in the children’s spare time, there are
more things to do (and they are more wholesome) than in
the city.
It should be noted that the liberal secular humanists,
the left-wing National Education Association, and much
of the liberal government bureaucracy are intensely
antagonistic toward the home schooling movement. It is a

loophole in their educational monopoly and their
efforts to prepare an entire younger generation for
socialism and the New World Order.
It can therefore be expected that the Establishment
will make major moves to neutralize or terminate the
home schooling movement – probably via accreditation
laws and standards that will be so difficult, bureaucratic,
leftist, or perverted that most home school families cannot
or will not be able to comply.
The movement has several things going for it,
however: 1) Children who are better educated, and who
test as such – a fact that is now becoming common
knowledge; and 2) Growing lobbying muscle via its
rapidly growing universe of families, and hard-nosed
groups such as the Home School Legal Defense
Association. The home schooling movement (like gun
owners and so many other groups in America today) will
have to struggle to preserve its existence in the coming
socialist environment, but it appears to have a better than
even chance of survival at this point. To help insure that
survival at both the individual and broader home
schooling levels, all home schooling families should join
the Home School Legal Defense Association. Go online

Home schooling, in the opinion of this writer, is an
essential, indispensable part of a family moving
toward self-sufficiency and retaining their traditional
family, moral, and religious values. What good is it if
your family moves toward self-sufficiency and you still
lose your children or have their minds stolen by a public
education system with a secular humanist, socialist,
hedonist, anti-religious, anti-family agenda?
Private Christians schools have not yet been
mentioned in this article. They are certainly vastly
superior to the public schools but have a number of
weaknesses relative to home schooling: they are
expensive and underfunded; many use the same secular
humanist textbooks used in public schools; they are often
dumping grounds for problem children and teenagers; the
peer pressure in many private Christian schools is as great
as it is in public schools; some Christian schools have
promiscuity and drugs – though usually far less than in
public schools; and they are vulnerable to losing their tax
exempt status if they do not toe the government line on
curriculum, standards, etc. This loss would sink many of
them, which are already operating near the edge of
financial disaster.
Nevertheless, most private Christian schools are
vastly superior to public schools and should be considered

if home schooling is not an option. Both Christian schools
and home schooling are likely to come under heavy
government attack over the next few years. This writer
does agree with Dr. James Dobson that private Christian
colleges or universities are vastly superior to secular
universities or colleges in upholding traditional family
morals and Biblical values, but even some of these are
now becoming quite liberal.
This writer challenges readers of this issue who are
parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles of children in the
public school system (or colleges or universities) to
investigate what their young people are now being
taught and exposed to: the academics; the sex
education; the anti-moral, anti-Christian, anti-
traditional values bias; and the drug/rebellion/sex/
violence aspect of public schools today. Examine the
textbooks – it will blow your mind!
Public education has massively changed
(deteriorated) since most of us were in school – there is
virtually no comparison between the school systems of
today (which are for the most part simply an extension of
our socialist government) and the traditional, locally
controlled, financed, and directed public schools of 40
years (or more) ago – schools that were there to educate
rather than to brainwash children with the socialist/
globalist/hedonist agenda of the Political Left.
Readers are encouraged to objectively investigate
home schooling and the potential benefit for your children
or grandchildren to have a traditional-values education.
As Deuteronomy 6:4-8 says: “Hear 0 Israel: the
Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God
with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all
your strength. These commandments that I give you today
are to be in your hearts. Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home and when you
walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you
get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands, and bind them
on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your
houses and on your gates.”
D. READING SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Americans are, by and large, no longer avid readers –
except for entertaining novels, newspapers (which for the
most part are written at an eighth-grade level), news
magazines, e-readers, and short Internet blurbs. (This –
along with the ease of ordering books on Amazon – is a
major reason why the giant national bookstore chain
Borders, recently closed down.) Very few Americans sit
down and read non-fiction books which have to do with

history; world developments; political, cultural, or social
developments; or self-sufficiency.
The vast majority of adult Americans spend their
leisure time (which in past generations would have been
spent reading) in watching television (i.e., two to four
hours per day), surfing the Internet (which can become
quite addictive), or on Facebook. They have been
retrained to think in terms of visually entertaining
material served out in spoonfuls (or mini-bites) of time
ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes. And this
material (especially on television) is carefully selected
and skewed to advance the political, financial, and
economic agenda of the liberal left, which controls and
dominates the media in America today.
In his excellent book Amusing Ourselves To Death,
Neil Postman describes how Americans have lost their
ability to think deeply in the age of television (and now in
the age of the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, etc.), by relying
on that medium (or those media) as their primary source
or sources of information and understanding, instead of
reading books. He discusses how in the 1850s people
would sit and listen to the very deep, intellectual, thought-
provoking Lincoln-Douglas debates for six or seven hours
non-stop (people without college or in many cases even
high school educations).
Because they were avid readers, they could
mentally focus for long periods of time and their
ability to think deeply, discern, reason, “connect the
dots,” anticipate consequences, grasp concepts, and
formulate long-term strategies (i.e., farsightedness)
was infinitely greater than the average adult American
of today (college educated or not). Read some old books
from the middle 1800s and note the vast difference in the
vocabulary and depth of thought from then to now. Check
out the old McGuffy Readers in this respect. The wisdom,
understanding, and character of the average American 100
years ago (or more) was far higher than for the average
American today.
If you and your family want to be educated,
discerning, deep thinking, and far-sighted, you must
become avid readers. (That is one of the great strengths of
home schooling – children do a vast amount of reading on
a wide range of subjects.) This writer believes every
young person and adult should be spending at least
two hours a day reading (above and beyond school,
work, house work, or newspaper reading).
For most people (unless they are already doing it) this
would take a major rearranging of schedules and priorities
(and elimination of television, Internet surfing, Facebook,

Twitter, etc. – the greatest time wasters of our day). But it
is worth it. If you will study the lives of the great men
and women in history and of the great leaders, almost
all of them were avid readers. If you want your
children to be successful in life, or to be leaders, teach
them to be avid readers.
But simply reading is not enough. One must read
books that will teach us history (true history, not liberal
revisionist history); that will teach us about the character
or faith of great men and women; autobiographies or
biographies of great leaders; books that will teach us
about our government, Constitution, and political system
from the point of view of our founding fathers; books that
will strengthen our spiritual faith; old classics (many of
which are no longer even read in public schools, found in
public libraries, or are even in print).
A few years ago, this writer spoke to a very intelligent
young man who had just graduated from public high
school with excellent grades, and asked him if he had ever
read James Fenimore Cooper’s Last of the Mohicans, The
Pathfinders, or The Deerslayer – classic books about our
American frontier and heritage that most students in the
’40s and ’50s and earlier were assigned to read. He had
not, nor had he ever even heard of Cooper or the
books. He had seen The Last of the Mohicans movie, but
was surprised to learn that there was a book that it was
based upon.
Old books, which describe our American history,
heritage, greatness, and way of life prior to our takeover
by the liberal secular humanists over the past 40 to 50
years, are becoming quite difficult to find. Most are out of
print, they are systematically disappearing from public
libraries, and are falling between the cracks of history.
But some can still be found in garage sales, flea markets,
used book stores, and in the attics or book shelves of
some senior citizens.
This writer would encourage lovers of truth,
knowledge, and traditional values to seek out and buy
these old books for your library, read them, and keep
them for your children or future generations. The
search can be fun – like a giant ongoing treasure hunt.
Most of these old books and classics will be gone
within 5 to 10 years.
One of the most important areas of self-sufficiency is
to build a reading library of not only old classics,
biographies, and historical books, but of “how to” books
covering a myriad of self-sufficiency subjects, including:
organic gardening; food preparation and storage; alternate
medicine (including emergency first aid, herbal medicine,

cleansing and detoxification, oxygen therapy, nutrition,
old nearly forgotten home remedies, etc.); gun repair and
storage; ammunition reloading; solar energy; hunting;
fishing; backpacking; short wave communications;
mountain, desert, or jungle survival; nuclear war survival
skills; general farming; how to fix things; and other self-
sufficiency skills. (In a time of crisis, or under the New
World Order, many of these books will not be available.)
This special report has cited a number of excellent books.
You probably won’t buy all of them, but choose the ones
that interest you and start buying them now – don’t
procrastinate! And after you buy them, start reading them.
A growing number of more traditionalist-type
families are beginning to read together at meals (and
discuss what they are reading). This writer attempted to
have a 45-minute “wisdom search” each morning before
breakfast with his family (when his children were still
young and at home) – reading aloud and discussing the
Bible or some related materials, and an hour or so of
family group reading aloud (from one of the types of
books discussed above) each evening after dinner.
For example, a book that this writer and his family
regularly read from after dinner or on long car trips was
Gaining Favor With God and Man, by William Thayer.
This is a reprinted compilation of 111 essays by great
American leaders (most of them written 100-150 years
ago) discussing character traits such as courage, self-
reliance, perseverance, self-control, honesty, integrity, etc.
Great family discussions come out of reading this book.
Another such book is: Great Americans and Their Noble
Deeds, which discusses the noble traits and deeds of 47
great American men and women. Both books are
available from amazon.com, and are highly
recommended!

family friendly entertainment is to acquire a library of
older classic movies, so you can show your children what
the “old” America was like before our moral/cultural
collapse – movies that supported and reinforced
traditional values and character traits such as: good versus
evil; heroism; courage; patriotism; loyalty; self-sacrifice;
diligence; hard work; spiritual values; etc. (Also Biblical
films such as Ben Hur; The Ten Commandments; The
Robe; Demetrius and the Gladiators; Jesus of Nazareth;
Quo Vadis; Samson and Delilah; The Bible; etc. – or
Chariots of Fire. Several of these movies actually won
multiple Academy Awards.)
If you sample a couple dozen of these older films,
you will be amazed at the difference between the culture
(and the Hollywood movie making culture) 40-50 years

our culture then and now. (Imagine wholesome movies
with no sex and no “f” words, that actually teach good
traditional principles and values! This writer has a library
of several hundred such movies.) Many of these old films

E. HOME-BASED COTTAGE
BUSINESSES
The concept of having a home-based business has
been growing rapidly over the past 10-20 years –
especially with the advent of the Internet era. At present,
over 40 million Americans currently work at home, either
for another company or in their own home-based cottage
business. The advent of computers, the Internet, Wi-Fi,
faxes, door-to-door Federal Express or UPS, discounted
phone service, cell phones, satellite communications, etc.,
has now made it feasible for people to work from home –
wherever that home is – in the city, in a small town, or in
the country.
There are four main types of home-based workers: the
self-employed entrepreneur, telecommuters (those
working for other people in some type of white collar
profession), piece workers (those in industrial-type work),
and independent contractors working for a company
without employee rights or benefits.
All four fit an independent, self-sufficient lifestyle
better than working out of a business, commuting to
work, etc. They also fit better with home schooling and
country or small town living. The home-based business is
the most independent and financially rewarding of the
four. There are thousands of products or services you can
produce and market from your home or homestead.
One needs to think of a business, product or
service that people will need in good times or in bad
times; of a product or service less likely to be stamped
out by control-happy government regulators; one that
lines up with your skills, talents, or interests; one that
has good profit potential; and one that perhaps the
whole family can participate in making, selling, or
delivering. Above all, the business should be fun. If it’s
not fun, don’t do it! Home-based businesses offer
tremendous opportunities for children to work in a
business and learn work ethics, entrepreneurial skills, how
to run a business, etc. Many home schoolers work in their
parents’ home-based businesses.

home-based (or cottage) businesses and list thousands of

CONCLUSION – This writer can really get excited
about the concept of a home-based business – that is how
he started his precious metals brokerage and consultation
firm back in the 1970s. The wife and children can get
involved; it takes you out of the travel/commute rat race;
you can be independent and your own boss; you can
(depending upon the nature of your chosen business) live
anywhere including in a small town or the countryside of
your choice; you can set your own hours (but if they’re
too short, you’ll starve); you can start on a financial
shoestring if necessary and keep your costs low with no
office or business rental and by utilizing the world’s
cheapest labor (i.e., yourself and your family), and you
can have a lot of fun doing it all. I repeat, if the business
is not fun – and something you really enjoy doing and
have an aptitude for, then don’t do it. Find another one.
A few reasons that many people would not start a
home-based business: they don’t want to be with their
family; job security or fear of failure (if you fail, just get
up and start over again); fear of an initial or maybe even a

permanent drop in income; difficulty in getting out of a
rut; lazy (a home-based business will not work without
hard work; or no entrepreneurial spirit).
The biggest advantages this writer sees in a home-
based business are more time with the family, greater
independence, greater compatibility with home schooling,
or with country (or small town) living, and with a more
self-sufficient lifestyle.

single with no children at home.]
F. FINANCIAL SELF-SUFFICIENCY
With the economic, political, and social convulsions
that are coming, the greater financial self-sufficiency (this
does not mean great wealth or net worth) one can have,
the more likely that you and your family can survive and
come through unscathed. Key elements include:
1) Reduce your debt as rapidly as possible to as close
to zero as possible. All forms of consumer debt should be
avoided, mortgage debt should be paid off as quickly as
possible or minimized, and credit card balances (if you
have to use a credit card) should be paid down to zero on
a monthly basis.
2) Budget and make yourself save at least 10% of
your income (whatever it is). Learn to live frugally, and
find less expensive alternatives to paying full retail prices,
such as outlet stores, warehouses, wholesale clubs, garage
sales, and flea markets. This applies whether you are a
millionaire, a pauper, or somewhere in between. Get out
of the habit of charging routine purchases such as clothing
and small appliances and pay by cash or check. You’ll
have a better awareness of exactly what you have spent.
3) Get as liquid as possible (i.e., as much of your
assets as possible in liquid cash equivalents – including
gold and silver coins).
4) Monitor your bank or insurance company’s
financial condition by calling ICA at 1-800-525-9556 for
a free rating. If it is a C- or worse, keep close tabs on the
financial institution or switch to a stronger one. Many
more financial institutions will fail in the next couple of
years and at that point the FDIC insurance will be seen as
the mirage it is.
5) Avoid the stock market and equity mutual funds
(except for precious metals shares mutual funds). The
stock market is likely to implode (Wall Street/Fed
manipulation notwithstanding) as the US economy and

financial crisis worsens, and the socialist stranglehold on
America tightens its grip.
6) Reduce real estate holdings, if possible, to no more
than 25% of your net worth. Small town and country real
estate in some areas should continue to fare much better
than in major cities.
7) Between 33% and 50% of a portfolio should still
be in precious metals (the recent high prices and volatility
notwithstanding) – split two-thirds US and European
semi-numismatic gold coins (and gold bullion coins), and
one third US silver coins – silver dollars, junk silver, or
silver American Eagles. These semi-numismatic coins are
highly liquid, highly portable, low profile, and should be
non-leveraged and personally held. As collectibles, they
are more likely to remain legally tradable if the
government ever moves to make gold and silver bullion
or bullion coins illegal again.
Gold and silver coins are by far the most
important part of financial self-sufficiency and have
been for over 5,000 years. For centuries, persecuted
people have lived underground with such coins,
bought their way to freedom with them, started new
lives with them, etc. They can be stored in a safety
deposit box or preferably squirreled away in a personal
home safe or hiding spot (on or off your property). [ED.
NOTE: At present, there is growing concern that the
government may start looking into safety deposit
boxes.] Your possession of, and storage location for, such
coins is very private and should not be discussed with
people outside your immediate family.
As government seizure/forfeiture activities increase,
well-concealed gold or silver could be incredibly
important to you and your family. Remember, if the
government ever seizes all of your assets or freezes your
bank accounts (it has happened to thousands of
Americans in the past 5-10 years), those well-secured
gold and silver coins could become your only means of
financial survival, or of hiring an attorney. They could
save your life!
8) Up to 15% of a portfolio should be in gold or silver
mining stocks (preferably via well diversified metals
shares mutual funds).
9) One to two months expenses in emergency cash
should be held at home or elsewhere in your possession
via currency or traveler’s checks. Be sure not to violate
any currency or cash reporting laws.

When, at length, the sky grew black in mid-afternoon
and the wind began to whistle round the eaves and the
temperature started to drop we were almost glad. The
snow fell. The winds howled. The darkness settled, and
the drifts piled high. So high, sometimes, that a boy could
not see over them. Even when it went to twenty degrees
below, forty degrees below, and the chill factor stood at
minus ninety degrees so that three minutes would freeze
your nose off, we made our quick trips, as necessary, to
the well and the barn. The warm milk was in the pails.
The pot-bellied stove glowed it’s heat. And as the storm
increased in fury, my father would say: “Let her come.
We were here first.” He would say it on the third day, and
if need be, say it on the tenth day: “Let her come. We
were here first.”
The storm always blew out. And the sun shone again.
And eventually there was spring. Had we not known the
storm was coming, of course, we should have perished. I
feel very strongly that we have had all the signals we
could ask for in predicting the monetary and economic
storm. Already the skies in the north are black, and the
winds are rising. The temperature is dropping. This may
be a preliminary storm, or it might be the big one. On the
farm we didn’t worry if the storm came a little later than
we expected. The important thing was to be ready for it. It
came when it came. Why should we wish it before it
came? Or why should we conclude that because it had not
yet arrived, it would not happen at all?
We are now entering the period of winter. If we are
ready for it, we need not fret, nor hope that it will happen
tomorrow, nor hope sooner or later; because we have no
control. Our situation is simply this: To the best of our
financial and economic ability we have stocked our cellar,
boarded up our house, and we might as well relax. “Let
her come. We were here first.”
And now we must touch on the most unpleasant
possibility of all. That is virtual revolution in the United
States.
This [article] is concerned with the end of an era. That
means the end of an era of permissiveness, the end of an
era of the spoilage of people, the end of an era of credit
and waste, the end of an era of something for nothing, the
end of an era to buy now and pay later, the end of an era
of dependence on someone else.
Americans age forty years and younger have become
so accustomed to the idea that the country owes them at
least a living that the withdrawal of this presumed
privilege could result in widespread rioting across the
nation. Empty bellies produce inflamed minds. When it
comes to considering the possibility of violent protest, it’s
difficult to project either the upper or the lower limits.
The lower limits could be rioting throughout the large
cities. The upper limits could be organized revolution.
In preparation for the time that will inevitably fall
upon us – sooner or later – every man must rely upon his
own imagination, his own projection, and his own
initiative. You will be able to come up with your own
solutions particularly applicable to your personal
conditions in the storm. One thing is certain. You will see
the collapse of this inflation and that will mean the end of
the era you have known. But you and your country can
still be saved.
The storm can be weathered.
