Endangered Species

Canada Lynx
Lynx Canadensis
Giovanni T
Period 5
Color Animal is in a
Grey subdivision.
White
Black Genus is defined as
Light Brown “a principal
taxonomic category
Weight/Height that ranks above
19-22in width species and below
2.5-3.5ft lenth family”.
18-24lb weight
Animal group Falls into one of the
Mammal four Genus lynx
Felis categories: Canada
Genus lynx lynx
Habitat
Boreal Forests
High Density in snow and
trees

Locations
Is found mostly in Canada
and some parts of north US.
Not found in treeless regions
or in areas that are in scarce
supply of their food source
Food Source
The Snowshoe hare is the main
food source for the lynx. Making
up about 75% of their diet.

Snowshoe hare can be found in

very similar forests as the Lynx.

This species requires habitats with

dense vegetation for both keeping
warm and to hide from predators.
Facts

● Extremely elusive
animal
● Keen eyesight. Able
to spot a mouse at
250ft.
● Solitary hunter
● Snowshoe paws
● Thick fur to keep
warm
Causes of Endangerment

Urbanization and hunting. As

well as hunting of their food
supply.

Logging, road-building and

high traffic volume, housing
developments, resource
extraction such as oil drilling
and mining, and winter
recreation can disrupt,
degrade and break up lynx
habitat.
Estimate number left

There isn’t a clear number

but mainly the number left
has been between 240
through 2000.

Not many recent studies

on the population.

Snowshoe hare
population is about double
the lynx population.
Conservation Efforts

Regulation on hunting in
lynx areas as well as
slowing the destruction of
their habitat.

Protected by the The

Endangered Species Act
(ESA) provides for the
conservation of species that
are endangered or
threatened throughout all or
a significant portion of their
range.
Individual Conservation Efforts

Symbolic Adoption. Symbolic adoption

supports WWF's global efforts to
protect wild animals and their habitats.

The World Wide Fund for Nature is an

international non-governmental
organization working in the field of the
wilderness preservation, and the
reduction of human impact on the
environment.

Investigating the World Communicating Ideas

Researching about this endangered species brought me to

another countries laws and the many ways the protect the
animals. Then thinking of ways we could spread awareness on
how to help the animals. Finally thinking of ways you can
advocate to save any animal that is endangered or is
threatened.
