I. OBJECTIVES 1. Relate themselves with the characters in the video clips and in the story
2. Express their point of view or their position about the short video clips and
the story
3. Recognize their role as stewards of Mother Nature by writing a pledge of
commitment
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature and other text
types serve as sources of wisdom in expressing and resolving conflicts among
individuals, groups and nature; also how to use evaluative reading, listening
and viewing strategies, special speeches for occasion, pronouns and structures
of modification.
B. Performance Standard The learner skillfully delivers a speech for a special occasion through utilizing
effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources.

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing previous lesson or SPELLING BEE
presenting the new lesson The teacher will start their lesson with spelling bee followed by the review of
last week’s lesson. (5 mins.)
B. Establishing a purpose for the Introduction
lesson We and the environment are connected. As we protect the environment, we
protect ourselves; as we destroy it, we ruin none but ourselves.
This quarter, we shall be discussing literary works and will be accomplishing
tasks to help us realize and to express our advocacies in reconciling with
nature.
Today, we shall begin our journey towards becoming stewards of our Mother
Nature.
C. Presenting examples/Instances of TASK 1. LET’S WATCH
the new lesson Before watching the video clip, read the following questions. After viewing, you
will be given time to answer them. Write your answers on your notebook.
1. What did you see in the video? Describe.

2. Who were the characters and what were they doing? How did they look and
what did they say?

3. Have you and your family or your friends ever experienced the problem or a
similar problem?

4. What do you think are the causes of the problem/s shown in the clips?

5. What solutions to the problems were done? Were they done individually or
collectively? Can solutions to problems be achieved when everybody does his
part? How?
The two video clips from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmVreLOJLV8 and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3FhXjyD30U will be shown to the
students.
After the students have watched the clips, the teacher will encourage the
students to share orally their points of view and their positions about the
presentations.
D. Discussing new concepts and TASK 2. COLOR MY WORLD
practicing new skills # 1 Answer the following questions.
1. What would the color of plants and animals and other living things be when
they wither or shrivel or die? (Expected answer: brown, black)
2. Can you imagine yourselves being surrounded by unappealing brown and
black?
Let us help then in keeping the colors of our nature. You will be provided with
different black and white pictures of nature (forests, flowers, plants, trees,
animals, oceans, etc.). Apply colors to give them life.
Some of the pictures that may be used are the following:

If you have talents in drawing you may opt to sketch a representation of nature
instead of simply applying colors to the pictures given.
The following criteria will be used in grading the artwork:

(leads to Formative Assessment 3) You will be given 10 minutes to read A Day in a Country by Anton. Take note of
the important details in your notebook.
G. Finding practical application of TASK 5. MY LEARNING, MY ANALYSIS, MY REALIZATIONS
concepts and skills in daily living The class will be divided into five groups. Each group will be given different
instructions.
Group 1. Directions: After reading the story, complete the following sentences.

Group 2
The text A Day in the Country uses sensory images. Identify sentences that
appeal to the different senses. Put your answer in the graphic organizer below.

Group 3
A. Analyze the words of the characters and give the most appropriate adjective
for them.
Answer the following:
1. Among the three characters, with whom do you associate yourself? Why?

2. The kindness of Terenty to the two orphans, though they are not in any way
related by blood is an inspiration to us. How about you, in what ways do you
show your kindness and generosity?
Group 4
Read the short note about Anton Chekhov, the author of A Day in the Country
and answer the question that follow.

Group 5
Think of a song that can best depict the interrelatedness of man and nature.
Your group will perform the song.
