Explain various basic electrical parameters to calculate electricity tariff for an industry.

(i) An electric heater of 250 V, 3.5 kW rating is used for hot water generation. Find electricity
consumption (a) at the rated voltage per hour & (b) at 230 V for 5 hour.

(ii) A three phase, 5 kW motor has the technical specifications like 350 V, 20 amps and 0.7 PF.
Actual input measurement by an energy auditor is found as 350 V, 18 amps and 0.5 PF which
was measured with power analyzer device. Find the motor loading in percentage.

For an existing plant a pump replacement is planned. A pump is working for 4400 hours per year
and delivers 8000 m3/hr of water at 40 m height. Two pumps are finalized for the same. Pump A
is 76% efficient and pump B is 82% efficient with additional cost of 1lac rupees. Select the
pump. Power consumption of a pump is given by following formula.

Following are the data for HVAC system. Find the energy efficiency ratio.

Temperature of refrigerant entering in evaporator = - 1.2 0C (negative)

Temperature of refrigerant leaving evaporator = - 5 0C (negative)

Flow rate of refrigerator = 15100 kg/hr

Power input = 52.33 KW

Specific heat capacity of refrigerant = 2.62 Kcal/kg 0C

Measured compressor power = 62.5 KW

What are the disadvantages of ‘direct method’ of boiler efficiency evaluation over ‘indirect
method’? Write step wise procedure to calculate Boiler efficiency.
Calculate ILER value and annual energy wastage for the following

Floor area of the interior room = 45 m2 , mounting height = 2 m, total circuit watts of the
installation by power meter = 990 watt, average maintained luminance = 700 lux, target load

temperature = 31°C, humidity in ambient air = 0.0204 kg / kg dry air, surface temperature of
boiler = 70°C ,wind velocity around the boiler = 3.5 m/s ,total surface area of boiler = 90 m2,
GCV of Bottom ash = 3349 kJ/kg, GCV of fly ash = 1894.6 kJ/kg, Ratio of bottom ash to fly ash
= 90:10,

14) A steam pipeline of 100mm diameter is not insulated for 100 m length, supplying steam
at 10 kg/cm2. Find out the fuel saving if it is properly insulated with 50mm insulating
material. Assume 8000 hours of operation per year.
