Scientific Sources

The tertiary source we used, an article entitled “What Are the Pros and Cons of GMO

foods?”, used several sources to summarize different aspects to consider when looking at

genetically modified organisms. The research article that it uses that we will be focusing on

today is a research article from the USDA entitled, “Recent Trends in GE Adoption”. The data

that the article from Medical News Today uses is that “up to 90 percent of domestic corn acres

are made from herbicide-tolerant seeds”. This is to support the claim that GMOs, especially corn,

soybeans, and cotton, are becoming widely common in the US. They also used the data that “94

percent of soybeans and 91 percent of cotton crops were genetically modified by 2014”. This

claim is supported by the graphs in the USDA article. The USDA article was more focused on

data, rather than making claims, but after reading the article and the research article, it seemed to

us that the tertiary source we used did not use the data from the USDA article to support an

incorrect claim.
