in WAC course for our PGDM programme and to gain practical experience.

The administration office is well equipped with

The company manufactures all kinds of
suspension insulators for varied applications,
upto 420 KN rating. To meet the ever growing
demand of disc insulators for T&D lines, they
will be manufacturing disc insulators of 45KN
to 320KN rating of both plain and anti-fog type,
with creepage distances for normal and highly
polluted areas
and protective zinc sleeves to combat the
deterioration of ball pin due to corrosion.

STORAGE

Kiran Group has been known for storing liquid


products and chemicals for over two decades,
with tank terminals for hazardous and non-
hazardous liquids, edible oil, petroleum and
petro-chemical products. They have about 1.2
million kl storage capacity per annum and also
the dedicated pipeline between jetties and
terminals. With the help of their experience,
facilities, instrumentation and research team
they are able to handle the most hazardous
chemical with utmost care.

They undertake the storage of dry products at
Kandla and Mundra ports. Their facility near
Kandla Port for Customs bonded and Non-
bonded have open and covered warehouses to
suit every kind of storage. With 150000 sq.feet
of covered and 350000 sq.feet of uncovered

area this is one of the most professionally
managed warehouses in the vicinity. It
complies with the international standards and
therefore catering to many MNC's and Traders
since years.

Transportation

Kiran Group is one of the leading integrated


logistics solutions providers. They improve the
orchestration of their customers supply chain
from the time of planning and procurement
through to the arrival & delivery of the
products at their final destination. Generally
most supply chains consist of sophisticated
network of suppliers, manufacturing locations,
warehouses, customs, customers etc.
They have a specialized team to handle the
transport of all kind of cargos, with 125 liquid
tankers, 200 container trailers, 25 dumpers,
and also have 50 S.S and 20 specialized
tankers to carry the specific chemicals. With
this they ensure safe, on time and complete
consignment delivery to any part of India.

This eliminates the uncertainties in relation to


their entire logistics requirement and put you
at ease & backed with confidence as they
ensure that their product reaches its
destination on time, always.

Insulator
Insulators manufacturing plant is exclusively
devoted to produce high end disc insulators for
transmission lines and other types of pin and
post insulators for distribution lines in the first
phase. The production capacity of the plant is
15000 tones per annum, using the best raw
materials. The manufacturing process strictly
follows well-defined quality control systems.
The plant is equipped with most up to date
manufacturing facilities.

Group's objective
The main objective of the group primarily is to
ensure the proper integration of all the
intermediates, agencies and factors of supply
chain so as to provide “One stop shop”
facilities to their esteemed clients. They have
given a heavy-weight importance to their
progressive investment in technology and
computerization over the period of last ten
years. This has ensured group’s effective
responsiveness and ever reading to the
changing business environment and customer
needs.
Logistics, shipping, Port Services and Transport
is a service industry, but it’s a people business
too.

About the Entrepreneur


Shri Mahesh N. Gupta, a business tycoon,
completed his graduation in commerce and
joined hands with his brothers to start
transport business from the scratch. He also
looks forward to venture into a new business
while he handles the liquid storage business. A
very well-known personality and a respectable
figure in Gandhidham.

Interview with Mahesh Gupta:

1) When was this business established and


where?

This business was established in 1982 at


Gandhidham, Gujarat.

2) What influenced you to start this


business?

The influence was the geographical factors,


mainly, i.e the port being nearby and I also saw
a boom in transportation business in future. My
family and friends also supported me in this
venture.

3) Before starting the business did you have


any training or experience in the field?

I was initially working with friends as a server


(giving information)

4) How many partners are involved in your
business?

It’s our family business and all of us 5 brothers


are involved in it.

5) What is your organizational hierarchy?

We follow the presidential hierarchy.

6) What was your initial investment?

We started with Rs. 20,000 and now our


business is worth Rs. 500 crores.

7) What is your annual turnover?

Approx. Rs. 150 crores.

8) What are your achievements and


business landmarks?

We are the only company having ISO 9000 and


14000 in Kutch, Gujarat. (The major objective
of the ISO 14000 series of norms is "to promote
more effective and efficient environmental
management in organizations and to provide
useful and usable tools - ones that are cost
effective, system-based, flexible and reflect the
best organizations and the best organizational
practices available for gathering, interpreting
and communicating environmentally relevant
information". The intended end result is the
improvement of environmental performance.)

9) What is the reach of your business?

We are spread all over the nation


internationally we export to Sri Lanka and
Nigeria.

10) What do you export and import?

We are the leading exporters and imports of
various chemicals, petroleum products, salts,
textiles, silica sand, wheat, wehatbran, wheat
flour, pulses and handicrafts and are into the
same business since two decades.

11) Who all are your competitors?

We have no such specific competitors as we


are best in what we do.

12) Which is your most profitable business?

Transportation and Storage business is our


main source of maximum profit.

13) How many people work in your organization?

We have 1500 employees working in our


organization.

14) Was your business affected during recession


period?

The recession lasted for about 2-3 months in


the area so we were not affected much. Also,
we are quiet a diversified group to let it affect
us.

15) What are your future plans?

The Kiran Group is planning to expand its


storage capacity by constructing new
state of art tank terminals with a capacity of
approx 2.0 Million Metric Tones per Annum with
facilities like drumming, heating, nitrogen
blanketing, rail wagon loading and other
specialized services with approx Rs 100 crore
of investment. For this, the company has
already acquired land at Kandla Port with an
investment of Rs 24 crores.

16) Are you working on any special project?

We have collaborated with DOW Company for


the manufacturing of the insulators and we
have invested around 100 crores in it.

17) What are your contingency plans if needed?

As we have a diversified business so if need


arises we will focus on other business lines.

18) Can you brief out the current scenario of


your business?

Today our company is of 500 crores and we


have been
focusing on developing new customers.

19) Would you like share any tips for


becoming a successful business?

I would like to tell you that for getting a


success in your business never share your
secrets with anyone. Always follow your goals
and be a positive thinker.

20) Do have any dream project?

Yes I have a dream project to purchase a


logistic ship (Cargo ship) in near future.

• We also observed that he was inspired


from the best seller named “ Spring of
Inpiration” written by Jeetendra Adhia M.D. He
also wanted us to read that book and get
motivated and so he gifted us.

We hereby conclude that the interview has
given us a new experience of meeting a
successful businessman and knowing his
business experiences and his strategies. We
understood that to become a successful
businessman a great vision and mission is
necessary, and a commitment to achieve the
set goal is also necessary for wealth
maximization.
