CHAPTER II
BASIC THEORY
2.1 What is SCADA
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a computer-based industrial control
system used to control a process, such as:
 Industrial process: Manufacturing, factory, production, generator power electricity.
 Infrastructure processes: water purification and distribution, sewage treatment, gas and
oil pipes, power distribution, complex communication systems, early warning systems
and sirens.
 Process facilities: building, airport, port, space station.
 Some other examples of this SCADA system are widely found in the oil and gas
production field (Upstream), high voltage and medium voltage electrical network
(Power Transmission and Distribution) and some applications used to monitor and
Control of a wide range of production areas. [1]
 A SCADA system usually consists of:
 Human-Machine Interface
 Remote terminal units that connect multiple metering sensors in the above processes
 Computer-based surveillance systems for data collectors
 Communication infrastructure that is the system of remote terminal units with
surveillance systems, and
 PLC or Programmable Logic Controller
Data acquisition refers to the method used to access and control information or data from
equipment that is controlled and monitored. The data is then accessed forwarded to the
telemetry system ready for transfer to different places. It got it in the form of analog and digital
information collected by sensors, such as flow meters, ammeter, etc. can also be data to control
equipment such as actuators, relays, valves, motorcycle, etc. Similar to the SCADA system is
the Distributed Control System (DCS). DCS usually used in factories and located in more
limited areas. Use high-speed communication media, such as local area networks (LAN). A
significant amount of closed loop control is present in the SCADA system covers a large area
(in geography). It may rely on various links communication such as radio and telephone.
Closed loop control is not a top priority in this system. [2]

2.2.1 HMI (Human Machine Interface)

HMI Is a subsystem of SCADA that functions to display data from the measurement
results in the RTU or display the processes that are happening in the whole system. HMI is
a software based on computer graphics that serves to facilitate supervision (Supervisory)
to the operator. HMI converts data and numbers into animations, graphics / trends, and
forms that are easily translated by the operator.

Figure 1.2 HMI SCADA

2.2.2 MTU (Master Terminal Unit)
MTU or Master Terminal Unit is a computer system (can be a computer or PLC or even
a microcontroller) whose job is to provide data to the HMI from the RTU. on the other hand
this MTU is also tasked with taking data from each RTU (if more than 1 RTU) to be
translated and given to HMI. data collection system from each RTU is called "Polling".

4
sometimes MTU and HMI can be made as one part, when MTU uses the same computer as
HMI.
2.2.3 RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)
RTU or Remote Terminal Unit is a SCADA subsystem that functions as terminals (a
kind of data station) from the results of measurement, control, status monitoring and
others. RTU also functions to translate, convert, and calculate signals from transducers
such as measurement of electric current, Flow, Static Pressure, Differential Pressure,
temperature, and others. from the measurement results, the things done by RTU is to
control (if it is a control system) then transmit data to MTU or directly transmit to MTU if
the system at RTU is not for control (Controlling). RTU can also function as a set point
regulator sent from HMI / MTU to the RTU. [3]

2.3 Software Elipse Power Studio
Elipse Software was made in Brazil in 1986. Until now, Elipse software has been developed
in many countries such as Brazil, Taiwan, and United Kingdom etc. Elipse Software There are
two types, namely SCADA and Power. Elipse Software consists of 3 modules called E3
module, among others:
1. E3 Server / E3 Admin
2. E3 Power Studio
3. E3 Viewer
In Elipse software There are several parts, namely:
1. File
a. Project
b. Libraries

5
c. Domain Configuration
2. Elipse Power Studio
a. Organizer
b. Properties List
3. Running a Domain
a. Execute Application
b. Run or Stop Domain
4. Exercise

PROJECT DISCUSSION
3.1 Plant Power Distribution System
In the PLN region of east and North Kalimantan, that each region needs the power listed in
Figure 3.1 Working Area of PLN East and North Kalimantan. Where in Figure 3.2 Plant Power
Distribution System has several power plants that will supply the voltage to some Gardu
mothership. The Kalimantan plant used PLTD (Diesel power Plant) as the main generator.

7
3.2 Subsystem Power Distribution System
In Figure 3.3 Subsystem Power Distribution System is the voltage supply through the GEN
(Generator) Pltd of 12MW, in which the Range Watt of 12MW will be transmitted to the cast
to Gardu Coral parent line of 1250a = 275 KW, which will be cast back to the consumer. Where
the desired voltage Range corresponds to the needs of the consumer, where the low voltage
Range is 50V – < 1KV, Medium Voltage range 1KV – < 160KV, High Voltage range 160KV
– 240KV, extra high voltage range > = 240 KV. Where in the Subsystem will be controlled by
SCADA so that every voltage that comes out and that enters the parent garrison as desired, and
if one of the plants experiencing interference or problems then the other generator will do the
supply of voltage in the mother's garage. At the PLTD Generator issued a voltage of 0.4 KV
and will be cast to the mains line to 150 KV.

CHAPTER V
ANALYSIS
From the results of experiments that have been done in Software Elipse Power Studio,
which is designing an existing system that is in north and East Kalimantan, where the system
is used among others are monitoring system, current distribution system, voltage, The power
that is useful is to prevent when the problem occurs on the other Line. In the making of the
SCADA Elipse is through the following stages. The first is Creating Domain, where in Creating
the Domain that will be used for the creation or the file to be used to create a project, hereinafter
the Designing Single Line Diagrams, which is used for the creation of Single Line Diagram
that corresponds to the location or line transmission on the PLN subsystem, in the manufacture
of the Single Line Diagram is the manufacture of Circuit Breaker is used for breaker and
connecting magnetically, then the Busbar, namely Open terminal used to connect between
devices to be used, transformer, which is used to reduce voltage and current, next after making
a Single Line Diagram of Import Tools on Screen, where At this stage is so that the single line
that has been made can do the monitoring, then the Setting Measurement Templates, which is
used to regulate in measuring the voltage, power, current that will be through the transmission,
set on each breaker Which is used, hereinafter the XPower Display, is used to display the value
of the transmission, according to the analog settings that have been done before, next is
Communication With Elipse and VAMP40, which is used for Connecting and communicating
from Software Elipse with VAMP40, hereinafter the creation of Frame add Screen is used for
HMI (Human Machine Interface) which as a Control Breaker without going through the Single
Line Diagram, hereinafter That is making Alarm, where this Alarm is used for monitoring if
there is an overload in the value of each breaker or in the transmission line system, hereinafter
the Reports, where this Reports is used to put data in which the data will be in Print in Word
form.

19
CHAPTER VI
CONCLUSION
From the experiments that have been done in this Project is that it can be concluded that
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a system that is used for controlling
and monitoring, in which the system controlling on Elipse software That is when the value that
comes out or entered on a transmission does not match the expectation, and control the Breaker
system, when the breaker will be open and when the breaker will close, and in the SCADA
system has a system Monitoring is used to perform realtime monitoring that occurs in the field,
whether the value of a transmission that works already in accordance with the wishes or not.
