TECHNICAL EVENT

Proposal by IKEA

Background
The KEF executive committee on 23.04.2019 had suggested IKEA representative to
propose a new Event that could be added to the KEF calendar. The requirement of a new
event and thereby a new committee was mandatory for the structured functioning of the
KEF.
Observations
1. KEF as an organization has been very active in Oman since 1997, however the
activities of KEF are limited to its members. The popularity of KEF in Oman’s
engineering sector as the largest technical community has not grown over the years.
2. Due to the above and the closed working nature of KEF, it is difficult for members to
find sponsors to support the various programs.
3. The KEF season begin in October and ends in March every year. The tight schedule
between programs and the busy office schedules becomes an overload for the very
active members. The remining 6 months of the year is idle.
4. KEF being the largest technical community in Oman, do not host any technical events.

Proposal
Ikea proposes to resolve the above issues with a “Kerala Meet-up” Program during the
lean months.
Objectives
1. Many expats in Oman are facing Job uncertainties due to the present market situations.
The meet-up event intends to introduce them to various start-up options and funding
schemes available in India.
2. Previously, many expats preferred to buy property as land or flats as means of savings.
However, today’s generation prefer to invest in budding startups. The meet-up event
will be a platform for many such successful startups to showcase their products and
attain funding.
3. The event also intends to generate the interest in KEF children about startups and
entrepreneurship.
