Dale Carnegie’s ​How to Win Friends May 2018 Dale Carnegie shares fundamental techniques in handling people,
and Influence People making people like you, and winning people to your way of
thinking. He also shares leadership strategies on changing people
without giving offense or arousing resentment.

Stephen Covey’s ​Seven Habits of May 2018 Stephen Covey provides seven principles which produce
Highly Effective People consistent, purpose-driven choices and achievement of desired
results. This is accomplished through self-development,
interdependent relationships, and renewals.

Flipped Classroom May 2018 Dr. Lodge McCammon’s Flipped Classroom model encourages
teachers to turn live lectures into video lectures, which saves time
and allows teachers to engage students in more meaningful
learning activities.

Understanding by Design June 2018 Understanding by Design is a framework for creating curriculum
based on establishing the desired results you want to see,
determining the forms of acceptable evidence, and the learning
experiences that will occur.

Literacy June 2018 Literacy is the foundation of students’ ability to function, develop,
and achieve in society. Attention to student learning needs,
implementation of a school literacy plan, and application of
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies continuously
produce student growth and achievement. This training was
provided by the Hill Center in Durham, NC.

Crucial Conversations June 2018 Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, and Al Switzler
offer techniques that create a safe space for crucial conversations
when opinions differ, stakes are raised, and emotions are high.
Application of these skills is sure to preserve positive relationships
when making decisions and problem-solving.
Restorative Discipline June 2018 A practice that incorporates school staff building relationships with
students that lead towards students owning their actions.

Poverty June/July Increasing understanding of, and impactful pedagogy with,


2018 students living in poverty is the objective of this important topic.
Using guidelines from research-based texts to develop practical
and proven strategies for individual schools will effectively meet
the unique needs of this growing population in our county. An
online module course was completed through ASCD.

Teach Like a Champion and First July 2018 Lemov provides 62 refining techniques to strengthen instruction to
Days of School support engagement and establish a positive and effective school
culture. Additional topics addressed include rigor, data, and
social-emotional classroom culture.
Wong’s instruction of establishing structure and procedures
provide an excellent prerequisite for Lemov’s techniques.

BB&T Leadership Training July 2018 BB&T Leadership Training supplies the tools to analyze strengths,
beliefs, and triggers when things are going well and in conflict.
This framework aids in replacing ineffective beliefs, behaviors, and
emotions with strategies that lead to success.

Madeline Hunter’s Mastery Teaching July 2018 Madeline Hunter’s time-proven lesson planning framework forms
the basis of effective instruction that is needed to build upon with
advanced techniques to address varied student needs.

Emotional Intelligence and July 2018 Emotional Intelligence and Myers-Briggs focus on how one
Myers-Briggs balances self-regulation and social skills and adjusts how one sees
the world through the eyes of others.

Make it Stick July 2018 Peter Brown and his co-authors use brain research to explain
what’s wrong with the ways we have been taught to learn and share
strategies that are most effective for making information stick.
Racial Equity Institute August 2018 The Measuring Racial Equity: A Groundwater Approach
presentation by REI engages its participants in data proving that
racial inequity looks the same across systems, socio-economic
differences do not explain the racial inequity, and that systems
contribute significantly to disparities. The presentation makes the
participants consider whether we are spending our time focusing on
fixing the fish or if we are digging deeper and fixing the water.

Equity and Social Justice Retreat September The Franklinton Center at Bricks, a former slave plantation that
2018 March eventually became one of the first accredited schools for African
2019 Americans in the South, conducts retreats focused on developing
an understanding of social justice and equity in the United States.

The Ron Clark Academy October This two-day professional development was spent observing the
2018 Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, GA. We saw exemplary classroom
management, instruction, and school culture.

Digital Storytelling November This three-day retreat focused on identifying our purpose or why
2018 within four domains: Historical, Biological, Cultural, and Political.
We created our own digital story of our why through iMovie.

Maxwell Training February This training focused on continuing to build our purpose or why.
2019 Why are we doing the work and how can we help others connect
back to their why? We discussed the power of humility when
telling our own story. We worked with John Maxwell’s book,
Leadership Gold.​

LGBTQ Training April 2019 Equity issues impact students beyond race. This training focused
on analyzing current policies that affect LGBTQ identifying
students. We also discussed the power of language when working
with all students. This training was given by Matt Hickson from
Bull City Schools United.

Time Management May 2019 This training was provided by Kelly Perin from Little Bites
Coaching to provide strategies and resources in time management
and goal writing and follow-through. Strategies were also provided
on how to maintain a healthy personal and work life balance.

NC School Improvement Project June 2019 This two-day training provides administrators with an overview of
the following courses: Math Foundations, Reading Research to
Classroom Practice, Co-Teaching, and All Leaders Understand and
Collaborate to Support Evidence-Based Practices.

American Enterprise Institute June 2019 This two and a half day retreat at the American Enterprise Institute
in Washington D.C. consisted of a lecture by Dr. Rick Hess, author
of ​Cage-Busting Leadership,​ and seven panels of influential
leaders in education policy.
4 Disciplines of Execution July 2019 This two-day training focused on the skill-set school executives
need to lead successful schools.

Student Due Process July 2019 This training provided an overview of the WCPSS Due Process
Handbook.

Community Resilience Model (CRM) August 2019 This introductory training to CRM focused on the wellness skills
Training March 2020 needed to help keep ourselves and students in our resiliency zones.

November This training covered the important aspects of the components of


LEA IEP Training 2019 an IEP meeting, as well as the responsibilities an LEA has in
regards to providing special education services.

CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention December This training equips participants with the skills to safely manage
Training 2019 and prevent difficult behaviors.
